fun and fast read

Though an epic fantasy tale - the story flows quickly. Wolves, Seer, demonkind, and much more. A solid first book in the series.

A Realm of Seers and Shifters by Sherry Leclerc transports readers into the captivating world of Maelona Mistreaver, a Seer and Guardian of the Realm. As visions of a Dark Sorcerer planning to open the Great Gate during the Great Alignment emerge, Maelona is tasked with assembling an army to defend the Eastgate, which helps contain the Great Gate's power. Along her journey, she encounters Blaez, a shifter from the Wolf-Folk, and Andrion, a human prince. These three heroes must unite their peoples against the encroaching darkness, overcoming fears and mistrust to save their world.

Leclerc's novel offers a refreshing take on the traditional seer and shifter narrative. The characters are not simply empowered humans living among their own kind but long-lived creatures residing in a mystical, protected forest. The author's vivid and detailed descriptions allow readers to visualize the story easily, creating an immersive reading experience. Action-packed fight scenes are brought to life through these descriptions, and the occasional humorous moments help to lighten the serious tone of the novel. The author delivers on both scores with a well-written, fast-paced tale rich in magical lore, mythical creatures and mystical world-building.

If I had a crit, Blaez seemed tame for a rogue wolf and I found myself wishing him more dangerous, aggressive and proud—a truly challenging match for the strong female protagonist.

That said, the novel really comes alive during the thrilling fight scenes, with ultra-realistic combat, stunning battle magic and a romantic subplot that will leave you howling for the sequel.

This is a fantasy tale that was hard to let go of. The story has a pleasant flow that you'll enjoy. If you love magical fantasy, then this is one you won’t want to miss reading. There are several fantasy tropes that you're sure to enjoy. The author excels at creating a rich world and its history. The world of Seers, Wolf Shifters, and other mythical creatures feels real. The fight and battle scenes are intense. The next book in the series is a must-read for me, I can't wait.

This felt magical to read from the first few pages, and the characters felt very unique. Something that I like about reading fantasy novels is the way the author often creates a unique world for the reader to escape into. I felt that this was the case here too.

The story was a nice length - some fantasy novels seem quite long and drawn out, but that wasn't the case here. I would recommend this to readers of young adult and fantasy novels.
