When Riley Roux asks Jordan Paradise to join her and Michael on a cross-country trip, they pick up two more passengers and plan for a future that could change the course of history
I picked up this book sometime in middle-school, either as a RIF free book or something from the book order. I read it and I remember I hated it. I think in particular I didn't like the references to sex and I couldn't identify with any of the characters.
Some years later, in high school, I read it again and loved it. I think I even recommended it to my mom. The references to sex were really tame and wow, all these teenagers trying to change the world!
I picked it up a third time this year because I needed something to read while I was sick. You know, something that wouldn't keep me up if what I really needed to do was sleep. Something that would entertain me that I wouldn't have to work to hard at. I chose this one because I remembered my two extreme reactions but couldn't remember what the book was about. It is teenagers, trying to change the world. And I kept snickering over how dated the book is. "The future is in telepathy!" If by telepathy you mean THE INTERNET well, then yes.
It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. The characters weren't anything like any teenagers I've ever known but they weren't super-far outside the realm of possibility either. After all, I stayed in school and these five totally took off and looked at colleges while still in 10th grade. Some parts made me laugh, several others made me roll my eyes.
A very solid two stars to this one. And maybe now I can send it on its merry way and stop re-reading it.
I read this my freshman year of high school and just loved it. Ended up loaning it to a guy that sat next to me in science class and never saw it again. It was a great story and very interesting how some themes never change.
Yup, read it in junior high, and it inspired me to write a young adult novel, which I never finished, but was integral to my growth as a writer. I'll never forget it.
