Learn to apply God's truth to your life, renew your mind, and build a solid foundation for healthy Christ-centered self-esteem. Teaches key concepts of godly self-worth that defeat the lies that Satan inflicts on all individuals: - I must meet certain standards to feel good about myself. - I must have that approval of certain others to feel good about myself. - Those who fall (including myself) are unworthy of love and deserve to be punished. - I am what I am. I cannot change. I am hopeless. Through practical learning activities, group sharing, and truths from God's Word, these false beliefs are addressed and changed. Great for recovery groups, discipleship groups, or anyone who has dealt with false beliefs or self-esteem issues. Learner guide included. (8 sessions)
Robert S. McGee is author of The Search for Significance which has sold over 3 million copies. He is also a lecturer and counselor. He started the national health care organization, Rapha, that began integrating a Christian perspective into psychiatric and substance abuse treatment in hospitals. McGee has also written numerous books on recovery from various dependencies, disorders, relationships, and substance abuse. His years of experience as a counselor helping people heal from emotional wounds has given him a unique perspective on what it truly means to be honest with yourself.
McGees material is really good, but this workbook, although designed to be "stand alone" is best used as review material for having read and worked through the book. He ended up leaving out a LOT of the scriptural foundation for his teaching in this short workbook in an effort to maintain brevity. Although the principles in The Search For Significance are transformational to me (more so than any other book other than the bible that I have read), the workbook errs in bringing to the surface more of what sounds like the "psychology" rather than the theology that makes the trade book so amazing. Again, this is best used as a review after someone works through the trade book by the same name. In that context, this workbook is outstanding. I would not recommend this workbook independently without the book giving it a context.
4⭐️ Väldigt bra bok! Den hjälper en att inse sina problem, men även roten till problemen, vilket ger en större möjlighet att åtgärda dem! Kan vara lite svårt skriven ibland, men ändå läsvärd!
This was good, but the larger book is much better than the workbook alone. The larger book also comes with a workbook section. This workbook was good for my small group because most of the girls don't want a lot of "homework." I think you get what you put into a study, and the larger version requires a lot more effort, so I got a lot more out of it.
Edit: there is a bizarre amount of time spent writing and re-writing lies. The mind accepts truth through repetition and I don't believe this is it. Also, I mention in my review the verses sometimes feel pulled out of context but it's worse than that. Sometimes they are also so condensed or summarized that some key truths in them are eliminated from the workbook. No, this workbook is just not it.
-----------
Still going through this with a small group (currently in week 3 of 7) but I think I can safely rate it now.
Having gone through the original book, which gets pretty in depth and in your face and is rich with scriptural support, this workbook really falls short.
I would recommend this workbook in the context of leading a group of new or immature believers or as an introduction to what spiritual formation is. That said, going through it as a group of seasoned believers isn't a waste, everyone brings their own perspectives and it's still a good discussion. But not as deep as it could be if it was the book, instead of this workbook.
The examples are condensed so much they don't even make sense or seem to connect with the chapters. The verses feel pulled out of context just to have snippets thrown all over that support the main thought. The actual WORK to do is really weak. It's super review-oriented. Honestly I think it would be really weird without already having the context of the book in my knowledge bank.
I would never ever recommend this to a solo reader if they are a new believer, they should be in a group with discerning leadership... And people should just not in general, and get the book. As a supplemental resource to literally just re-review the book content in another format, sure I guess.
it is my personal opinion that everyone needs to do this workbook, if not multiple times throughout the years. It has important principals we must know, and incredible tools to help us, in the end, live and love like Jesus. If we are free and no longer believing false beliefs from the enemy, as well as walking in our true identity God gave us, we can love unrestrained. This book has been a big help!
