The shortness of this text combined with the captivating story concept make this a very quick read - 18 chapters of a warrior speaking with a manifestation of god, written in the style of a poem, including questions of death, mortality, and the human soul.

To read these conversations is intriguing, but like myself, you will find them confusing if you don’t know the meanings of different Hindu terms & concepts.

Interesting though it is, the language doesn’t make itself very accessible to non Hindu readers.

Strong-Armed One,
this is my lower nature.
But be aware
of my other, highest nature -
that nature
being the life by which
this world
is held up.

"Content with
accidental gifts,
moving beyond dualities,
free from malice,
the same in fulfilment
and frustration,
even after acting,
that one is not bound."

XXII, 4th Discourse

"Im home, and shelter,
the heart's companion.
I am birth, death and sustenance;
I am the house of treasure,
and the eternal seed."

I read this in comic book form as a kid (lol) and so while I knew the story, actually reading it now was extremely moving and a delight. I felt the pain of having conflicting needs and the pain of having to choose although no choice is ever completely the right one. Krishna grounds Arjun - and all of us - in what it means to be human, which is to make mistakes, make choices, and think of the world at large and what it needs, not what you need in a single moment. The concept of dwelling in the truth and the reminder that not choosing is a choice will stay with me forever.
