Tell My Mother I'm Not Dead: A Case Study in Mediumship Research

Rate this book
This book divides into two parts. The first is a personal narrative of the impact of the death of the author s son Ralph on him and his family and his efforts to see if there was any evidence for his continued existence (generated largely through visits to mediums) that a thinking person could take seriously. The second is an attempt to evaluate that evidence objectively (based on an extensive survey of current and past scientific research in the UK and the USA). The title reflects the inevitable tension between emotion and intellect in such an enquiry."

I found this book disappointing on several levels. I made the mistake of buying the book because of the title but I never saw any connection between the title and the book at all. I appreciated the research but felt the author was willing to overlook all evidence just to make his point. Author seems to lack imagination. He should meet some people I know.........

Maybe the best book on the subject of mediums, Hamilton expresses much humility and vulnerability, letting the reader intimately into his life in the first half of the book, while briefly tackling the history of mediums and the possible process mediums employ when sitting with clients in the second half. Both believers and true skeptics will appreciate how Tyson questions everything and takes nothing for granted, clearly spending time processing how grief can affect his beliefs and color his experiences. Hamilton offers valuable suggestions on how the investigation of this phenomena can move beyond the standstill that super psi and survival proponents are currently at.
