4.25 stars ⭐️

might i just say Maren Moore’s best work to date?? I was not expecting much at all since the last two previous books of this series i rated 2 stars BUT this book was actually quite good???

I LOVED THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT BW MAIN CHARACTERS LIKE YESSSSSSS! The best thing was literally no misunderstanding, no third act conflict in the book. I loved the characters SO MUCH. Auden was such a strong h and Asher was just everything😭 i love how he was with Alex and how he was so caring and loving😩

I can’t wait to read Maren’s next book but idk if it will catch up to the bar this one set for me!

Nope, nada, ain’t gonna do it, no way, no how.

I’m not sure which Instagram algorithm tee’d this one up for me as a good read because in a word - no.

First things first - the writing style is incredibly juvenile and basic - to the point where it reads as clunky and unrealistic. One of the quickest ways to get me to ditch your book early is when the characters use five dollar words when we know in real life a two dollar word would suffice. Use the contractions! Use the abbreviations! Use the slang! It’s how real people talk.

Secondly - the logistics of this book just don’t add up.

⭐️ In what world does a 24 year old single mom
- who is also a high school drop out, bartender at a strip club, and sends her 8 year old kid to a prestigious (and expensive) private school - live in the same apartment complex (let alone NEXT DOOR) to a professional hockey player? Spoiler alert - NHL stars make bank. Logistically, without some major financial help on Auden’s part - these two would never be on the same floor, let alone in the same downtown Chicago, on the water, hi-rise building.

⭐️ In what world does said single mom - who is an insecure, nervous Nellie 100% of the time - let her 8 year old son go up to the roof of a hi-rise apartment to hang out and draw by himself? And evidently goes up there enough that he befriends some lone, strange man she doesn’t know. But don’t worry - there are cameras and he has a cell phone. Nope, nope, nope.

⭐️ In what world do you pick to stay in a trashed apartment with holes punched in walls and doors by the other rando dude Auden let into her and her son’s life vs ditching it and moving to the next door apartment that was professionally decorated, does not have the aforementioned damage, AND has the furniture/tech options that can only be purchased by an NHL player’s salary?

⭐️ When Auden is at work, making that bank, where does her son go? Is he always going to his friend’s house because that would be… a lot. And it’s just not possible to make downtown, hi-rise, private school level tips working the day shift so don’t even try with that excuse.

⭐️ You’re telling me that in the multiple years Auden and Asher live next door to each other - he has NEVER seen her son coming/going? The same kid he has hours long conversations with up on the roof? At no point did he say “hey kid, where’s your mom? And “where do you live?” At no point do they leave the roof together, share the elevator and realize they both get off on the same floor/follow the same path to their side x side apartments? If I talk to any kid longer than five minutes, I’m asking AND looking for their parent(s). Forget hanging out with them often enough that we have our own handshake and I’m buying them presents. What up creeper…

Other random thoughts…

⭐️ The “has sex once and gets pregnant born-again virgin” character arc that is Auden? Let me tell you - it got old after the first 20 mentions. We get it - she’s a tender lamb in a world full of wolves. And of course the only stitch of makeup she wears is her cherry lipgloss.

⭐️ And Asher? Well he is what we readers like to call a unicorn. As in, he doesn’t exist in the real world.

💫 One of the best NHL players in the league w/ a seven figure salary BUT he is a low key insanely talented artist too? Check!

💫 Likes Star Wars, Manga, and deep dive conversations about history and art? You betcha!

💫 Prefers quiet nights in with his favorite Star Wars mug of tea instead of a rowdy night out with the boys? Natch.

💫 Is immaculately clean and can cook? Get thee to the kitchen!

💫 Has the sexual know-how, stamina and prowess to knock your socks off BUT really just wants to snuggle and take bubble baths? Come here snuggle bunny!

I mean… I’m sure there are men out there that check many of these boxes. But all together? AND looks like that? Ummmm… Like I said, the man’s a unicorn.

ALL of this is more than enough to say “hey this book just ain’t for me” but what really drove the final nail in the coffin is the mention of politics. Repeatedly.

⭐️ If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1000 times - keep your stereotypical, narrow-minded, antiquated, often widely inaccurate view on politics OUT of these kinds of books. It literally adds nothing. It sticks out like a sore thumb and makes you - the author - look like an idiot. Not to mention it pisses off at least half of your (US based) audience. There really is such a high risk/low reward incentive to include it you’d kind of have to be a moron to go there. Then again it’s sort of par for the course given the other logistical plot holes that exist.

My review in a nutshell - this book is lame and if I had a physical copy, I’d run it over with a Zamboni. Instead I’m going to chuck it back into the KU/digital vortex and forget it exists heretofore. ✌️

4.75!

Every time I read a Maren Moore release, I tend to say it’s my new favorite… and that’s exactly what happened with this one, once again! 😁

No, but seriously. Single parent and sports romance are some of my favorite tropes, and I loved that this book had both 🤩 Auden and Asher easily became my new favorite Maren Moore couple, and I don’t know how they will be topped for me. I miss them already 🥲

Auden is a strong, hardworking single mother with the biggest heart. After everything she’s gone through in her past, she deserved someone who would be patient and show up for her and her son — and Asher was exactly that person. Asher is truly a DREAM! The way he was so protective of Auden and Alex (her son) and referred to them as his family? I SWOONED 😭 And any guy who is good with kids and has enough artistic skills to draw the woman he loves wins in my book 😫 Asher was so unapologetic about his feelings for Auden and was constantly outdoing himself to be good for Auden and Alex, but he still respected her independence and dynamic with her son. I could not help but fall hard for these two, just like they fell for each other 💜

I always have the most fun and enjoyable time reading Maren Moore’s books, and this book was definitely no exception — also no third-act breakup? I LOVE TO SEE IT! I adore Auden and Asher so much, and I can’t wait to see what MM has in store next!

Thank you to Maren Moore & her team for an ARC of this book! 🥰

I think this takes the spot for my favourite book from the series so far! It was an emotional and heartwarming story, and I was completely obsessed.

I absolutely adored Asher, he stole my heart from the beginning. His little nerdy side was so cute. I loved that he built a friendship with Alex before even knowing that he was Auden’s son. They had such a sweet relationship and he really loved Alex like he was his own🥹

Auden was so strong! She raised her son at 16 completely alone, because her parents kicked her out, and she did an amazing job. Alex was the absolute sweetest kid🫶🏼

Together, they were perfect! Asher fit so well into their lives. I think he was exactly what Auden and her son needed. They made a cute little family and I couldn’t get enough of them.

I'm less than a quarter in and I'm already so irritated!!! Ugh

Our h is a single parent, she's had the grit to raise an amazingly bright and sweet 8 year old from the time she was 16 years old. After being abandoned by the ppl who were supposed to support her....she's worked hard to provide for her child.....yet on meeting her I'm faced with a stuttering scaredy cat who can't even change her own tyre? She's a single mom!!! Grit is what her backbone is made of!!!! What is this mess? My eyes are rolling so hard right now I'm just hoping I can see the pages to continue 🙄

MY MAN ASHER IS HERE!

Prepare to fall madly in love with the swooniest book boyfriend ever! The Penalty Shot is feel-good romance magic! Heartfelt, effortlessly charming, and brimming with character chemistry- I simply adored this sweet and spicy love story.

Asher is EVERYTHING. The dreamiest, most endearing, most sincere and patient and loving book boyfriend EVER. AND THAT DIRTY MOUTH! And Auden is such a captivating and relatable heroine- I loved watching her find herself after years of feeling like she had to live her life for others. This is really a sweet and sexy story about a young mom finding her identity again, a journey she feels safe to take because of the proactive arms of a tatted and soulful hockey star that helps her explore all parts of herself- including some spicy ones. It’s sugary sweet, hella sexy, and deliciously low angst. Add in a scene stealing nerdy kiddo, and my heart is a goner.

This is by far my favorite book by my gal Maren, and her most compellingly written.-Asher just stole the top spot as my favorite hockey hottie. The Penalty Shot sparkles with emotive richness, authentic tenderness, and feel good butterflies. It totally stole my heart!

Unutmazsam. Umarım. İnşallah🫢🫢

🏒Roommates
🏒 Hockey Player
🏒 Single Mom
🏒Sweet and Steamy

In my opinion this is one of Maren Moores best books to date. It’s her steamiest, kinkiest, and over all swooniest. I am obsessed with these two.

This is a story about Auden and Asher. It serves infatuated boy trope to a T. The chemistry these two share is off the charts from the very beginning. This story starts off on a miss understanding which makes for an interesting first meeting, but eventually becomes one of the most caring and supportive relationships I’ve had the pleasure of reading.

Auden is a Wonder Woman of a mother, she is strong and has been through so much to damper her confidence. She is so selfless, and always puts the ones she loves first. I loved her character and getting to see her come out of her shell. Asher is the type of hero that helps build her up, and supports her. I loved seeing Asher step up for her and be the rock she needs when she’s had to go through so much on her own.

Asher i loved him so much, he was extremely caring from the beginning as well. On the surface he may be this sexy hockey player, but there’s so much more to him. He has depth and layers I really liked getting to see. He also has a kindly side that, made for some amazing steamy moments. I loved getting his internal thoughts as the relationship developed, I was totally in my feels.

Overall I definitely recommend this story. I love all things Maren Moore, but if I could recommend any book of hers it would be this one.

Didn’t quite work for me - Small Spoilers in review

I really liked Reed and Briggs stories and loved Graham in both their books. Then I was annoyed having to read 2 books for Graham’s story when I felt like a lot of it was unnecessary but I had hope things would turn around with Asher’s book and I was disappointed. I truly hate that I didn’t like this book but it is my least favorite of this series and I most likely won’t read the next one.

The things I liked about this book was Asher and Alex’s friendship before he even really knew Auden. But that’s about as much as I can say I enjoyed. I found myself skimming several pages at a time because I was bored and I did not like Auden. I wanted to like her but I can’t stand an author that writes a weak female lead character. The constant tremble in her speech every single time she spoke to Asher was annoying and made her sound like a child. How was her 8 year old son braver and stronger than she was? I also can’t stand when toxic families are written in books where the character continues to care and please them.
The other thing that bothered me so much was how can a single mom working as a bartender afford a 3 bedroom apartment in the same building as 2 Professional Hockey Players while also paying for private school? 🙄 Come on… be just a little bit realistic, please. Even with a roommate there is no way that would happen.
I also didn’t like how the other guys weren’t in this story very much at all. I think they were mentioned or included two or three times throughout the entire book. Their friendship was what kept me reading the stories and it wasn’t even brought into this relationship at all.

Finally, the epilogue was lacking and I didn’t really feel a HEA or get any glimpses into a book for Hudson. And Asher’s surprise for Auden? Are you kidding me? What a joke.

Every once in a while you find a book that just fires on all cylinders for you. This is that book.

As a single mom estranged from her family at 16, Auden doesn’t know anything about unconditional love. This is a book about rebuilding - rebuilding trust, and love and confidence for Auden. And Asher is just the man to help. His kindness and patience knows no boundaries.

I loved that Asher’s relationship with this family begins with the little guy. He and Alex have such an organic connection. And Asher gives great advice without stepping over any parenting lines. They are just adorable.

The way that Asher quietly becomes such an integral part of their lives was so wonderful. It was so nice for Auden to finally have someone to lean on.

And when they cross that line from friends to “more”… HOLY SMOKES! Asher is all gentleman, until he is not. This is Maren’s hottest book IMHO! He is an amazing dirty talker and he does not just talk the talk, he can also walk the walk.

I just love a guy that is all-in from the beginning and will go to any lengths to show how he feels about his girl, and Asher is that guy. To borrow a quote from historical romance, reformed rakes make the best husbands. So true!

Loved this one! Asher has my vote for best book boyfriend!! *swoon*

I requested an early reader copy of this book and these are my honest opinions.

“𝙄 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙚, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙘𝙚. 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙩.”

Maren has done it again. These daddy’s just get better and better.

I completely fell in love with Asher and Auden in this book, wow.

Asher’s bestie and roommate Hudson had to move out so Asher was planning on finding a new house, his neighbour who is Auden has a issue leading her to be on the look out for a new roommate.

Asher has had been into Auden since he laid eyes on her, he met her son Alex and they became good friends.

Asher’s relationship with Alex was the sweetest thing ever, I really resonated with Auden in a lot of ways in this book being a single parent and the struggles she faced, it was portrayed in a great way to showcase a lot of mother’s worries.

I wanted to rip her parents heads off tbh and I’m so damn glad how that turned out, they deserved so much more.

Auden wasn’t very “experienced” and I actually LOVED that Asher was teaching her things and about pleasure, the man can do no wrong.

Asher’s dirty mouth and the way he looked after both Auden and Alex will forever live in my head.

Maren always produces the most perfect men!!

✨I’m seriously so confused as to why more people haven’t read this series yet?! It’s so freaking spicy and sweet and I’m in love with it.

Asher Hart was such a fantastic MMC! This man was DOWN BAD for Auden. He was fiercely protective of her and her son Alex and it was just so sweet.

Start to finish, the chemistry and connection between Auden & Asher sucked me right in. Auden’s backstory with her horrible parents left me irate but there is an extremely satisfying moment at the end that I loved.

The spice was delicious! 😅🤭❤️‍🔥

MY EMOTIONS.

Y’all know I’m obsessed with the pregnancy trope (& family trope by extension) so when I tell you finding this series was like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, I’m not exaggerating.

THESE MEN SLAY ME. Puck Bunny was actually my very first arc so I also love this series for sentimental reasons.

Babies. All the babies. All the breeding k!nk. All the body worship.

But can we also talk about the emotion behind this story & the fact that I openly sobbed from 82% to 90%? Daddy issues’ll do that to ya 💀

One thing I love most about this series is that we get the pregnancy/family trope in all of the books but never in the same way.

I love that Maren shows that there’s no “correct” way to have a family so we see adoption, surprise pregnancy & step parenting.

Auden’s character arc was incredible & I loved who she became by the end but dammit man, Asher & Alex stole this show for me😩

I absolutely love this series. If you’re looking for an intro to sports romance or are obsessed with the pregnancy trope, THIS IS YOUR SERIES!

This was okay the spicy scene where top notch! I listened to this book because Alex Kydd is one of my favorite narrators.

So here’s my problem when ever they started talking about her parents I got extremely irritated because the author act like Auden was still a child. Very annoying and I didn’t like her character either.

I don’t know why this book was classified as a sports romance had very little to do with hockey imo.

Asher Hart has stolen my heart! He’s by far my favorite Maren Moore book boyfriend! I know I say this with every new book boyfriend Moore writes, but it’s so true!

Asher is EVERYTHING I wanted in a book boyfriend. He’s dreamy, sincere, patient, and loving. I loved how protective he was with Auden and Alex. He referred to them as his family which made me SWOON and fall for him! I love a guy who's good with kids and unapologetic about his feelings like Asher was. Auden was a strong, hardworking single mother and I loved the two of them together and how perfect they were for each other.

I love Maren Moore’s books and this one was no different. No drama, no conflict, no misunderstandings just the main characters getting the HEA they deserved. I can’t wait to see what Maren Moore writes next!

Y’all already know I’m obsessed with her books and this one did not disappoint. I now have a new favorite book boyfriend ( I change them every time there’s a new release, I can’t help it, Men written by Maren are PERFECTION.

Asher had my heart from the beginning. He’s so sweet, protective, caring and loving. His relationship with Alex (Auden’s son) was my favorite. They build a connection before he met his mother and it was so precious. Auden had Alex at 16 and raised him alone. She was such a strong person and a great mother.

The chemistry between Asher and Auden was off the charts😏🥵. The spicy in this book *chefs kiss*

Omg guys, this was SO GOOD. I struggled with this authors last few releases, but this was just fantastic!

Asher is a famous hockey player but he's not your usual manho; he's got so much depth to him, he's quiet and soulful, and honestly just the perfect boyfriend. I loved how fiercely protective he was of Auden and her son Alex (and their friendship melted my ovaries!!) From the very beginning he was all in with them, and I just loved it!

Auden is understandably guarded with all she's been through, and my heart just broke for her. Her parents are truly awful people and it just made me want to bundle my own babies in my arms and never let them go. But the way she rose from her situation and no matter what was always the best mom for her little boy just made me tear up. Plus her relationship with Asher was hands down one of the best I've read lately. And a huge turn on here: not only was Asher all in with them, not only was he deliciously dirty and taught her all the sexy things she always wanted to try, but above all us, THERES NO CONFLICT. No third act drama and separation, just two adults COMMUNICATING. Ugh. Nothing makes my 🐱 wetter.

The best book of this series so far!

Asher and Auden are neighbours who become roommates. Asher has felt drawn to Auden since he first set eyes on her. She is a young, single mom with a painful past, working hard to support her son Alex who has a lovely friendship with Asher.

The chemistry between these two was incredible, Asher was a very swoony hero and I loved that there wasn’t drama for dramas sake in this book. Watching Auden grow in confidence as their relationship developed was so nice. I really liked them both and was rooting for them throughout.

This is very much a standalone, you don’t need to have read the earlier books in the series to enjoy this one. I would have liked a little more hockey in the book to show how their relationship worked during the season (though we did see some of this towards the end) and I’d have liked to see more of Asher’s teammates too but overall this book was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you to the author for this arc in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

No spoilers as it will ruin it for you the synopsis of the book is enough.

The main characters you fall in love with straight away, and the side character MJ is a delight hoping she in a book herself.

This book is a definite must read for everyone who loves a romantic story 4 3/4 ⭐️ would like a bit more hockey action but that’s just me.📚💕📚

The Penalty Shot is an enjoyable read with characters that intrigue you from the very beginning!

I loved reading Asher and Auden’s story so much. These two have an amazing connection that keeps getting stronger the more they’re around each other. I liked how both characters are equally intriguing so when they come together they’re absolutely explosive.

Asher is definitely one of the best mcs I’ve ever read about. He’s exactly what Auden needed in terms of knowing just how much she can really do. Auden is so strong and an amazing mother.

Overall, The Penalty Shot is a great read that’ll have you rooting for the characters through everything!

Bu seri cidden yormuyor. Hemen okudum bitti bile. Bekar anne ve hokey oyuncusu. Zaten adam kadından hoşlanıyordu. Ya aşırı tatlılardı. Kadın karakter 16 yaşında hamile kalıyor ve ailesi onu istemiyor. Kitapta sinirimi bozan tek şey kadın karakterin ailesiydi. Onları da hallettik şükür.
Ve o zamandan beri sürekli çalışıp kendini oğluna adıyor. Asher sürekli tatlı tatlı şeyler yaptıkça hepimiz eridik. Tam rs çıkarıcı ve kafa dağıtan çerezlik kitaplardan ❤️‍🔥

ARC kindly provided for the author in exchange for an honest review

At this point I think I will never be able to choose my favorite book by Maren Moore, much less my favorite hero, because this author outdoes herself with every story! What I can assure you is that Asher & Auden are the sweetest couple that Maren has given us so far, their story was much more cute and adorable than I expected and if we add little Alex to the mix everything is even more perfect.

I also think that Auden is quite a different character from the heroines I've read by this author: a shy girl, closed in on herself and who only lives to give Alex, her son, the best possible life. Auden has, without a doubt, a complicated life, her parents are horrible and she has had to face the difficulties of life alone, but she has always kept in mind that keeping Alex happy and safe is her only goal. She's a loving, respectful and amazing mother, and I loved reading how much she loves, knows and supports her little boy, although it broke my heart to read how insecure she feels about her abilities, how she thinks she will never be able to fulfilling her dreams and how much she tries to give her family opportunity after opportunity, even when they continue to disappoint her, and precisely because of that fragility and vulnerability that she constantly shows, I loved seeing her trusting Asher and having a support system in her friends who love and support her always.

Asher is my type of man: kind, sensitive, affectionate, always says what he wants, thinks and feels, is respectful of Auden boundaries, and is the sweetes, most adorable and tender with her and Alex, besides he's a nerdy lover of comics, manga, art and books, and is full of surprises. I was not expecting at all the way her relationship with Alex & Auden started and I have to say that I really enjoyed reading the twists that Maren gave to their plots, especially with Alex: I found it very interestiing, cute and beautiful that these two have so much in common, that they are practically soulmates and best friends, giving me many of my favorite moments in this story.

Asher & Auden are, without a doubt, made for each other! I LOVED that slight obsession that Asher has with Auden even without knowing anything about her, the misunderstanding about the sounds that don't let him sleep, their first meeting, how they get closer little by little and the way they get to share an apartment, but the best of all was reading the ease with which, together with Alex, they become a family without realizing it: how much Asher cares for both of them, gets involved in Alex's life and loves spending time with him, how Auden finds herself trusting Asher and making him a part of her life in such a natural way and how she gets from him the love, security, and support she always needed to achieve her dreams and feel whole again. Definitely this book is one of my favorites in the series, it's tender, sensual and my favorite family by Maren, so far.

I LOVE ASHER HART. I don’t know how Maren consistently writes such swoon worthy men, but good grief, she excels at it every time. Not only that, but I think Auden might be my favorite Maren heroine so far. She is selfless, kind, stronger than she knows, and just a young single mom trying to raise her kid to be a good human. Despite her having trash parents, she made the best of her situation and came out better for it! These two were literally perfect for each other. And don’t even get me started on Asher and Alex’s relationship. I was SOBBING by the end! It hit me right in my momma heart! I laughed, I cried, I blushed. I wanted a little more epilogue, only because I’m obsessed with their story. But other than that… PERFECTION!

Thank you to Maren Moore for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

BOOK 5!! We are at book five in the Totally Pucked series. And it seems to get better and better with each book.

Seriously though, WHAT THE HELL? How do you keep making these men even hotter than the last? I thought Daddy Graham was it for me. Think again! Asher was absolutely swoon worthy AF!! I was rooting for Asher and Auden since the moment they first met. It can be read as a standalone, but you don't want to miss out on these delicious daddies. It's best to start from the beginning. If you need a palette cleanser, this is DEFINITELY the perfect series for you!
