Finding this gem--one of Buckley's earliest books--in a used bookstore was a treat: Buckley comes from that Californian meditative-lyric school of poetry: and these poems use the image to help carry the speaker (and the reader's) thoughts to resonant and surprising places. Powerful and attentive language and a subtle ear mark these poems.
