Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.

Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.

Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.

Re The Bride In Blue - Miranda Lee borrows a trope from Anne Mather in this one and sets her h up to be the HP version of Sophia Loren in a modified version of the movie Sabrina.

Huge warning before we go on! The H sleeps with anonymous OW after he and the h are married. So don't read anymore if you don't want to know...

The book opens with the h getting married to the H. She is 20, pregnant and the father of her baby is the H's dead brother.

We learn that our h was the H's brother's neighbor. The H's brother was the oldest son of a bona fide Manly Man's Man and unfortunately the oldest brother was not a manly guy in any way, shape or form. He was an artistic dreamer who frequently left big messes for his little brother to clean up or got into trouble that required little brother to bail him out of.

The H's fragile flower mother definitely favored her eldest and more artistically inclined son. However the H's father was insistent that his eldest wear some pants, so when the H's brother wanted ballet lessons, he got boxing instead. When he wanted to paint, he was forced into business school and when he wanted to live a simple life and be happy, he was pushed into marriage as a business merger with a rumored society witch for a bride.

Finally the H's hard drinking, hard womanizing father died and the H's brother took off, leaving the H to assume the mantle of the family's property development company's commander in chief. The H's mother does not appear to be very fond of the H and it seems that he isn't overly concerned with catering to her fragile flower needs either.

But the H did love his brother, even tho he has been defending him and getting punched for it for years. So when the h moved in with the H's brother to escape a creepy stepdad who was trying to force her to marry him after her mother died, the H said nothing to the h about the brother's estranged wife.

He let his brother indulge in a idyllically romanticized country living daydream and took care of all the hard daily stuff, like providing financial support so the brother could read books, paint amateur pictures and gorge on the platonic devotion of a teenage girl.

Then when the brother was dying and the h confesses that in a moment of comfort she and the H's brother slept together in a unicorn banishing non mojo moment event and she is now preggers, the H agrees to his brother's request to marry the h and provide for the h and the future baby.

That brings us up to the wedding and the h is having doubts. The H tells her it is a marriage in name only. He will have discreet liaisons on his out of town business trips and she is welcome to do the same, provided she is suitably discreet about it of course.

There will be no midnight dancing barefoot in fountains to make the gossip pages and embarrass the H's mother or their older housekeeper, who they live with in the big family manse.

The h doesn't really much like the H when they marry, he is hard and big and tough and probably a bad man to boot. The h is still mourning her great love for his kind, charming and very nice middle-aged, balding brother and she is convinced she will never love again.

This is HPlandia tho and ML does everything but shout from the rooftops that this tiny but maturely-curved-Italian-soon-to-be-firebrand h has got tart with a heart written all over her.

She even goes so far as to have the H's procuress secretary, who wants a partnership in the family firm and wants the H distracted enough with lust to give it to her, point out just how voluptuous the h's attributes are. The h doesn't really get it at first tho.

She understands that the H's first blonde bombeshell harlot tart wife broke his heart when the H wanted a family and the woman lied that she was trying, but was secretly taking the pill. When the H discovered the deception, he kicked the lying bimbo to the curb and swore off marriage ever since.

The h believes that the H's heart is closed to love just like her own, so she doesn't feel too bad to be a sponge in a wealthy household, she has a beloved reminder of her dear dead love to grow. So the marriage starts off, after the h delivers a sharp smack to the H's face for berating the carelessness of his brother, as the h won't tolerate any disrespect to her beloved.

(Who couldn't even bother to divorce his own witch wife and left her hanging in limbo for years, or bother to change his will so that the h and his future child were provided for. Interestingly there was also no mention of why the witch wife did not divorce the brother on her own, if she was that unhappy with being 'in limbo'. I supposed social status and a lot of money could make a witch kinda lazy about filing the paperwork.)

Eventually the h and H settle into a routine, the h hangs around the family manse and takes in ironing from the neighbors to buy the H a camera for Christmas so she doesn't have to buy him a gift with his own money, to the H's incredulous suprise. The H takes his discreet business trips and the h assumes he is getting more than quality time with his hand for some mojo action.

Sadly in the midst of all this bonhomie and seekrit Lurve Force Mojo Tension seething under the surface and disguised as hostility between the H and h, the h has a very sad miscarriage.

The H is great about supporting her through the trauma and when the h suggests ending the marriage, the H tells the h they can just continue on, as the h is really cheering up the house and the older ladies living with them.

The h starts to feel more friendly towards the H and their relationship is a lot more cordial. The H really does seem to have a kind heart under a stern exterior.

Then the H's procuress secretary steps in to meddle. She is an older lady that is clearly not OW material, but she is the h's friend and she has been the one who helps the h dress for her new social status.

She points out that the h wants children, motherhood is still a big goal for the h's personal achievement list and the H is prime material for fatherhood and he totally has all the tick marks in requirements for both the financial and fatherhood responsibility boxes.

The h agrees that the H is really a good man at heart, she thinks, so she agrees to give the idea some consideration.

There is a big company party coming up and the h has to attend. So our wily procuress dresses the h up in a dress to make a vamp blush, then she cozens one of the H's other employees to put the moves on the h with the H looking on.

The H doesn't take even friends kinda-sorta-in-a-put-up-job poaching on his territory lightly, it is time to bring the simmer lurve force mojo to a surface boil. After the party and a long, cold swim for the H later that evening, the big Purple Passion Lurve Club Extravaganza in a range of positions is on.

The h's world is literally rocked and we get a dirty weekend escape where the h is seduced amidst the lap of luxury. After a big outburst from the h as the lurved up duo are preparing to head back to the family manse, the H tells the h that she can keep her love for his dead brother, he just wants her sexuality and her breeding capabilities.

The h is soon preggers and soon figures out that she is in love with the H. She has gently pointed out to the H's mother that her differing treatment between her dead oldest and the H has made the H believe his own mother hates him and the fragile flower makes a sincere effort to be kinder to the H. We find out the H's mother loves him after all, she just didn't think he needed to be told that.

Having done what she could to improve the relationship between the H and his mother, the h then lets the balloon go up on the expected stork visit. This causes the H to back off on the Purple Passion Moment front and we are back to separate bedrooms.

The h was initially worried that she might miscarry again, her mother eventually died from multiple miscarriages while trying to give her abusive second husband a son, but the h learns that that the damage was structural, not hereditary and she can't understand why the H isn't lurvin her up anymore.

Then the h starts to panic, because there hasn't been any boudoir bouncing for a while and the H is planning an out of town trip. He plans to take the h out to dinner for their first outing as a married couple the night before he is set to depart and the h is desperate to seduce the H so he doesn't spread his lurve club around.

Unfortunately they meet the H's bimbo blonde harlot ex-wife over dinner and there is a scene at the dinner table when the woman berates the h for being a brunette when the OW knows the H's preference is for blondes.

The fraught h makes a beeline for the ladies room and Helen Bianchin should be taking notes here.

The Harlot OW follows the h into the restroom, she starts spreading her venom about the how the h is a useful broodmare and the H will soon be back with in the OW's bed as she meets all his lurve extravaganza requirements and the h is poor second hand former unicorn groomer and the h finally shows that yes, she really is a virago Italian woman who knows how to fight for her man.

The h smacks the OW full in the face and tells her that her H wants nothing to do with such a shopworn tart, the H loves the h and the h loves him back and the Harlot OW can jump.

The H walks in the ladies room at this point and the truly gobsmacked OW starts to whine. The H tells the OW to shut up, she probably deserved what she got and when the h smacks somebody, they tend to stay smacked.

The H then whisks the h back to the family manse and the sad truth about the H's parent's marriage finally comes out. The H explains that his father desperately loved his mother when they married.

But his dad's lurve mojo motor was in overdrive and his mother's never even hit an idle, so after the H's older brother was born, the H's mother closed off the lurve club connection. The H's dad tried very hard to stay faithful and celibate, but needs must after years and one night he violently raped the H's mother.

This resulted in the birth of the H and even worse, as his brother was a copy of the H's mother, the H was a copy of his dad in motor running speeds and every time the H's mother looked at him, she was reminded of the demise of her relationship with the H's father.

Tho neither of them divorced each other, the mother walled herself off except for her oldest son and the H's dad took to flagrant affairs and drinking. The H suffered the fall out for all of them and especially when it came to fixing the messes made by his older brother. So the H resolved that whomever he married had to have a matching mojo speed and that is how he ended up with the ex-wife.

It was really more lust than it was love and the H was blindsided by the truth when he realized that the woman had no intention of building a family with him, she just wanted him for his money and his bedroom skillz. So the H kicked her out and sent her off and then his brother got the h up the duff.

The H was worried about the h's pregnancy and the doctor gave him the three month lurve club ban to wait for a safety zone before lurvin up the h. The h tells the H that she doesn't want to wait and the H swears he wasn't planning on cheating on the h. The h makes that point mute when she decides to do a little seducing of her own.

Happy times are had and there is a cozy afterglow in the boudoir, then the h starts feeling pain and panics. The H rushes the h to the hospital and it turns out to be food poisoning, not another miscarriage. The h overhears the H imploring the doctor to save the h over the baby, no matter what and this convinces her that the H really loves her.

She had been fretting cause she knew she loved him and when the H comes back into the room, the h makes him tell her he loves her. The H admits he loved her since he saw her, but he tried to stay away from her cause she was all that was good, then the h tells him she loves him back and the two are now happily avowed in love and the baby is fine.

We get a little epilogue where the h has had a baby boy, they name him after the H's brother and the H and h are heading out for two weeks in Bora Bora. There will be love in sun and hopefully a brother or a sister as a vacation bonus, for another pink rosy glow mutual devotion true love HP HEA.

This one doesn't read quite as well on the second time around, but it is still a great Epically Tacky Romance. Tho I confess it is more like Liberace Overly Ornate Gold Lame Tacky and I have a definite weakness for that, on occasion.

The H is much more likable than the h at first, even with the 'business trips'. His big 'I Love You' declaration at the end is truly well done. But the h totally comes into her own on the 'meeting in the ladies room' scene and for once, the OW gets a really, really well deserved EPIC smackdown. I was certainly cheering the h on.

For that reason alone, this book is worth a read. So pick it up, find a cozy spot and the beverage of your choice and be prepared to go on a Delightfully Tacky yet so satisfactorily gratifying HPlandia outing.

The bride in blue was one of the whiniest h's ever. I usually hate using the small case "h" to refer to a heroine, but it is so appropriate here. She is horrible. Granted, she is a pregnant 19 year old, but

Sophia throws Godfrey, the good whimpy brother, in Jonathan's face. All. The. Time Godfrey did this. Godfrey did that. Godfrey loved this. You are not Godfrey. Godfrey would never...I was exhausted. They finally get together and it is everything Sophia never knew considering the only time she Little Sophia also displays a healthy level of hypocrisy when she

One redeeming scene is when . Nice going, Sophie, but too little, too late.

One last thing is I am not fond of heroines that go from one brother to the other particularly if they have had sex. So a little discomfort there which begs the question why I read this in the first place.

If you like old school,, then BiB is for you.

"The only reason i told you i had never marry again was because I had fallen in love with you. God, do you know what it was like, promising Godfrey to marry you? It was my deepest dream, and my darkest nightmare. I tried telling myself it would seem a noble sacrifice, that others would pat me on the back for my brotherly love, when all the while, down in the hell reserved for ruthless bastards like myself i was plotting to steal, if not your heart, then your body."

It has been years since i read anything by Miranda Lee and with now finished "The Bride in Blue" i really wonder why..!Yes,because i am STUPID that`s why!But oh do i love tropes like these! Where the heroine are in love with one brother and has to marry the other who is the hero.In this case the brooding hero is the younger brother which came as a positive surprise for me-that`s so unusual in harlequin!I thought Sophia a really tender heroine who also had a lot of spirit in her. Jonathan Parnell is a swoon-worthy hero i really felt sorry for. He marries the pregnant heroine who are in love with his dead older brother Godfrey-and him being secretly in love with her made it so bittersweet! Miranda Lee described the full emotions of angst well in this romance between Sophia and Jonathan-their journey of love was passionately satisfying (long time i read books with steamy sex-scenes in hplandia) and all secondary characters simply entertaining! A well done Romance indeed!

The heroine going from one brother to another is one of my least favorite set-ups but I eventually didnt mind because I found this a classic melodramatic HQN with the marriage of convenience/in name only, miscarriage, deathbed promises, and no Hero POV.

I didnt like the heroine at first with her dramatics but it turned out to be because of her youth and pregnancy. Once she settled down, I found her refreshing because she always blurted out what was on her mind and faced things headlong. The hero was the hidden layers type and the author did a good job of revealing his layers thru the heroine's eyes.

I graded this a B+ because there were two minor things that made me raise my eyebrow a bit. One was the pregnant heroine drinking alcohol. The other was the notion of telling a son that he was the result of violent marital rape. Not saying it cant happen but . . . um, wow. Also, please note that the story takes place over several months and before the H/H decide to commit to the marriage and consummate it, the hero would go off on "business trips" to have sex which the heroine was well aware of.

Tropes: Marriage of convenience, Older hero (he's 34/she's 20)

This was a delightful surprise. My only regret is that I wished I had read it sooner.

This had all the typical HP tropes, but I still found the book extremely refreshing.

Unlike other HP's, the hero and heroine didn't stew in their own juices, but rather confronted issues head-on and talked through their problems right when they happened. Yet, the author still had the ability to keep the tension dial up and emotions running high.... just the way I like my HPs.

Highly recommended.

It was a conflicting read for me cause at every turn i was surrounded by loads of questions, hero weds heroin cause she is pregnant with his dead brothers child, both enter the wedlock and hero does'nt even for decency sake honors his wedding vows, spends his wedding night with another woman n from there on every weekend he goes on holiday spots and spends nice n sexual holidays with womans while heroin here is left alone and she keeps finding scarfs, lipstick marls ,perfumes, hotel bills which makes her understand where her husband goes n spends nights and is hurt by it

half story is this then heroin miscarries and hero consummates his marriage and there are issues n heroin mistrust hero and he even has a face to ask her"whether he thinks he will be unfaithful"when he takes heroin for the first time to have a dinner at a place there his ex-wife is there the way he keps staring at his ex's boobs god heroin gets angry n tels him diestcly to sleep with her n get it over it ,then he asks above question

obviously ex-wife n heoin have a spat, heroin slaps her n hero takjes heroins side n then he explains why he slept with those woman after marraige "though the reason which was given i cannot excuse him with that explanation"though heroin forgives him n happily ever after

i m at a conflict here whether to say ignore it ya say read it only once cause i really wanna know what other readers think abt the reason that hero has given for his infidetlities

I ended up liking this book a lot more than I thought. I kept looking for some of the events that I read in other reviews but never found them such as the lipstick on the collar and the cheating after consummating the marriage. Never happened as I could see. Yes, this is definitely a story where the husband cheats, but he was marrying her for his brother's sake and she was screaming like a banchee that she'd never love him...NEVER! And he's an admitted Don Juan who needs his fix. He was upfront and honest though. He redeemed himself IMO at the end. Lots of cheesy cliches but it was sweet...and even a little sexy.

Second HP in a row where the hero is a man who falls in love with his brother's girlfriend. Here he ostensibly marries her to give his dead brother's baby a name. But we all know that really he's already in love with her. While naïve she is pretty level headed. You can see her begin to fall in love with him. You can see from the beginning that he is head over heels for her. There is cheating here but it was during a period where their marriage was unconsummated and was intended to be annulled after the baby was born. I still didn't like it so well since the hero was already in love but it wasn't a total deal breaker for me.

I have forgotten the countless number of times I have indulged in The Bride in Blue by Miranda Lee, one of my favorite Harlequin romances to revisit time and yet again. However, it is also amazing that I have never put down a review of this book for whatever reason, which I aim to rectify this time around.

The story begins with Sophia the bride wearing blue on her wedding day, to be lawfully wedded, not to the man whose child she is carrying, but to his younger brother who steps into take her beloved Godfrey’s place to do the right thing. From the start, Jonathon Parnell had rubbed Sophia the wrong way – he was just too much of everything, and being the distraught bride mourning the loss of the love of her life certainly does not make it easy for her to see him any other way.

There is a powerful connection that exists between Jonathon and Sophia. While Sophia might be naive and inexperienced not to know that, Jonathon does and that is the singular most reason why this story is so appealing on multiple fronts. There are those readers who would find Sophia annoying – and I admit, she is annoying at first, because like everyone else, she is quick to judge Jonathon without understanding the dynamics that drives his behavior.

When Sophia finally starts to see the undercurrents that exists within the family and how Jonathon is the pariah for some reason, the man who is always on the sidelines left wanting – though his cold and aloof manner would hardly tell you anything, that is when Sophia starts to realize the true worth of the man who is her husband.

The sexual desire that awakens in Sophia is a foregone conclusion when it comes to Jonathon; readers will have to experience Jonathon for his animal magnetism to understand why, not to mention the fact that he harbors a secret he is unwilling to part with when it comes to his reluctant bride.

At the cost of repeating myself and sounding gushy, I so love this story. I would say this is Miranda Lee at her very best, delivering a hero that makes you literally melt from the way he just strides into a room. Yes, Jonathon is that kind of hero. Once Sophia starts to see Jonathon in a new light, you can see the feisty side of hers emerge; the woman who gives it her all when it comes to loving and protecting Jonathon.

The angst factor was just right, and the sexual tension that permeates throughout the book heady enough, and I could not ask for more! Sophia’s fantasy when it comes Jonathon, when at last she is ready to accept him as her husband in the truest form – well, you will have to read on to find out!

Recommended for the sheer effect of Jonathon as he wreaks havoc on your senses.

Final Verdict: The Bride in Blue is the kind of book that stands the test of time, the reason why when I read for pleasure, my chosen genre would always be romance!

Ok...so here's the thing: I do not like books where the H or h was formerly involved with the other's sibling. In the case of this book, not only was the h living with the H's brother, she had had sex (bad, once) and was preggers. Of course, the H makes a deathbed promise (oh, did I mention the brother conveniently dies) to marry and take care of the h.

Give me a break!

Of course, this marriage of convenience becomes more...after he slakes his "lust" with other women post wedding (it's a m-o-c afterall) AND she loses the brother's baby.

Just a tad bit too convenient for me.

Anyway, I still gave the darned book three stars 'cause it was just angsty and emo enough to keep me turning pages.

I almost gave it two stars because the inevitable baby at the end of the book, a boy, is named...you got, AFTER THE BROTHER.

Seriously? Ok. Fine. Maybe I get it, sort of. It's still a little weird, though.

Happy reading.

Changing my rating to 3.5 stars. For this second or third reread, this time around it bothered me that the hero slept with other women even though, yeah yeah, the marriage between hero and heroine was unconsummated and they haven't decided to make the marriage real yet.

2006 Review: I remembered reading this a long time ago and then when I had to clean my little storage area I found it again and read it again. At first I wasn't sure about the heroine doing the two brothers - kinda weird, but the hero was pretty cool, I definitely liked him. I guess I can excuse the heroine since at least she only did it once with the older brother and I guess she was young and naive. Otherwise, the story is sweet and is definitely not boring. I enjoyed reading it.

A lovely dramatic. The h, fell in love with one brother, and got preggers for him after their first and only time together before he sadly dies of cancer. On his deathbed he requests that his brother, the H, married and protects the h and the baby.

The H does his duty and marries the h but makes her uncomfortable and miserable. It’s a MOC that turns into more. There is an ex-wife, a grieving MIL, a sassy housekeeper and a matchmaking assistant. Oh and the H’s friend who fancies the h.

It all turns out to be lots of drama, some angst, and a touch of humor thrown in to make it a lovely read. Well worth the time.

Boogenhagen’s most excellent review encompasses all the main points of the book. 1/2 star of my review goes to the heroine’s most excellent slapping abilities!I (Kitty has claws when needed!)I will go over the basic set up but will stop short of any major spoilers or revelations.

Heroine- 19/20- she lived a rather sheltered life and had no experience with men...her stepdad makes the moves on her after her mom dies(tried before too) and locks her in a room. She escapes to the friendly balding middle aged neighbor next door(hero’s brother) who takes her in. They enjoy each other’s company just happy to pass the time away in a dreamy sort of water color painting. Then one night she has sex with the brother. It sounds like he missed the mark in all parts of their little interlude except for one...she is pregnant...oh and he is dying. So he takes her back home where he lives out his limited days in the hospital and makes the H promise to take care of her...The h believes Godfrey was the love of her life which isn’t surprising given her limited experience of men and that he saved her from the evil clutches of the stepfather. Unfortunately Godfrey was already married and made no provisions for h in his will. The H sets up a trust for mommy and baby and says he will marry her because he keeps his promises. However marriage will be name only. He will take business trips to assuage his big libido. (Sorry folks he does engage in some faceless nameless sex that we are spared at least) He engages in one tryst shortly after marriage, but his moc bride IS pregnant with his brothers child AND when he hugged/kissed her briefly he ended up with well let me use quotes from the heroine herself:

“There had been nothing cold or unfeeling about what had risen between them, pressing its hard throbbing life into her stomach.” 😳🍆
.......................definitely not a gun in his pocket.............

So it is now established that the heroine’s stammering around the Hero is desire and the H’s avoidance of the h is desire.

She loses baby...but stays married to H. His secretary sets them up to get together in a more biblical sense and this is where the fun and angst and romance begins...

I enjoyed the story. It actually felt older to me but when they whipped out the cd’s and not the cassettes I was like ...oh it’s not that old 😂 🤦‍♀️ Reality check: Cd’s took over popularity of cassettes over 30 years ago. Seriously where does the time go....

My first Miranda Lee book that I got my hands on a long time ago, at a secondhand bookstore, and my only one so far. I loved it enough that many many years later, I got myself the Kindle edition too.

Sophia is the titular Bride in Blue, refusing to wear white for her wedding to Jonathon, the younger brother of the man she loved, whose child she is currently carrying. She had met Godfrey while running away from an abusive, creepy stepfather, and lost him to an illness. Because Godfrey didn't plan anything to ensure she was safe or protected - nor did he divorce his first wife - the Parnell family plan the MoC to ensure Sophia is looked after and her baby is given a future. She, however, professes to being frightened stiff of Jonathon, who is an alpha male with a capitalized, bold and italicized A, and he seems to want to avoid her most of the time.

They essentially stay as strangers to each other, which some amount of sparring in between (eg. Sophia slaps Jonathon after he speaks disparagingly of Godfrey, and impressively rises to her dead bf's defense), and Jonathon takes regular trips to the Gold Coast for both business and to vent his sexual frustrations with (presumably) one night stands, which Sophia knows about. The first time I read it I wasn't very pleased... however by the end of the book it didn't pose much of a problem to me. More on that later.

Unfortunately Sophia miscarries in the first trimester, and since Jonathon was the one who got her to hospital as it was happening, the two finally open up to each other and bond over their mutual grief. This allows the two to remain friends, and Sophia settles into the fake marriage and the household pretty comfortably until Jonathon's interfering PA decides he needs a little romance in his life to distract him a little from work - well, at least enough that she can eventually be made partner for the business one day. She tells Sophia about his past with his ex-wife Charmaine (who basically lied to him about being on the Pill) and gives her a makeover, which succeeds, because Jonathon takes her to bed and essentially seduces the *living daylights* outta her, before whisking her away for a short honeymoon at a luxuriantly racy hotel.

Sophia discovers and revels in her appetite for sex and grows fonder for Jonathon during this period, but is also confused about her feelings for him. She gets pregnant pretty soon after, fixing his relationships along the way (most notably the fraught one with his mother, who initially couldn't imagine Sophia ever being happy with him. More on that in a bit). Unfortunately Jonathon seems to become more distant towards her post-pregnancy, and Sophia fears he may be returning to his philandering ways, especially she finds out he's trying to get some business done in the Gold Coast. So when they spot Jonathon's ex-wife at the restaurant where they're having dinner, Sophia's frustration and agony pours out and she lets slip that she's afraid he's going to be unfaithful to her when he goes to Gold Coast. Overwhelmed, she goes to the ladies', where she is confronted by Charmaine and where she gives the woman an EPIC smackdown.

Later at home, Jonathon confronts her about her suspicions, then reveals to her that he was a child conceived from rape - his mother hadn't been able to cope with his father's sexual drive and tried to fend him off after Godfrey was born, the father tried not to be with anyone else and eventually assaulted the mother, resulting in Jonathon being born. Jonathon carried the burden of being a child that his mother struggled to love all his life and witnessed the way his father's guilt destroyed him, and marrying Charmaine was an attempt to make sure he didn't repeat what his dad did. Sophia, who knows by now that she's deeply in love with him, reassures him that she wants him as much as he wants her, and they sleep together that night.

Hours later Sophia gets a scare, and fears she may lose her baby, but it turns out to be a case of food poisoning. However, she overhears Jonathon break down in front of the doctor over almost losing her, and realizes how much he loves her. When confronted with the truth Jonathon confesses he'd been smitten from the beginning, had sworn off marrying again because he had fallen for her and agonizes over never getting her love. Sophia confesses her feelings too, and they both have a beautiful, emotional reunion that ends in the birth of their son Godfrey Jr and a second honeymoon in Bora Bora (where hopefully they plan to conceive a little sibling for their kid).

Nothing in a romance novel appeals to me more than going back to a reread to spot all the signs of a smitten H, and Jonathon is exactly that. Sophia seems tame but there's enough evidence in the book that she has a bit of a bite and doesn't suffer fools. I really loved the parallel between the two times she slaps someone: she only ever does it when she's being fiercely protective of a loved one. She first does it to Jonathon when she thinks he is dishonouring the memory of her love Godfrey, and by the end of the book the slap she gives to Charmaine is in defence of Jonathon himself.

I know the "adultery" at the beginning of the book is a deal breaker for most, but I honestly thought the intent went well beyond just "well we're not even sleeping together so what's your problem" and I was actually a little touched by it. A thing that I think that gets missed with regards to this, is how Jonathon's story about his parents is a direct response to Sophia's accusations about his dalliances in Gold Coast. Jonathon's attitude towards relationships was coloured by what happened between his father and mother, and by the fact that his sex drive matches his old man's in many ways. Mere minutes before he takes off to Gold Coast for the first time, he betrays exactly how aroused he is by Sophia's presence and walks off in a panic. Fear is clearly a huge factor in WHY he makes these trips - he is in love with a woman who doesn't love him back, remembers the traumatizing events that resulting in him being born and is desparate to ensure he doesn't hurt his own bride that way. So to me his trips to Gold Coast always read as - in Jonathon's perspective - a desparate attempt to protect Sophia from himself.

I loved how this book goes from mild antagonism between the lead pair, to friendship, to scorching chemistry, and how Sophia's innocence doesn't really stop her from indulging in some amazingly wild fantasies (she even has a caveman fantasy about Jonathon just moments before their first time). Their bond seems to go a lot beyond their chemistry too - Sophia immediately identifies the problem with Jonathon's mother's attitude towards him and takes the first available opportunity to nudge her into expressing her love for her son more openly, and she even saves up money to buy him a camera. Jonathon is her emotional support and her shoulder to to cry on after her miscarriage.

Overall this one has always been a rollercoaster ride of a book and I always enjoy reading it.

3 things you need to know:

1. h goes from one brother to another, she has slept with both. (HOWEVER, the brother had terminal cancer and he literally dies the next morning after their first time together - it was more like a pity f*ck and extremely drab for the h)

2. h marries H as a MOC because she is pregnant with dead brother's baby - she later m!scarries.

3. The H and h's MOC is truly just that, because the H initially goes off on far away air trips to sleep with women after marriage...

.... They do make up and have a believable HEA, and the H had fallen in lust with her on sight but had been keeping it in control as he felt she was off-limits. He actually told her he also fell in LOVE with her, but I choose not to believe that because he wouldn't have slept with other women if he truly did. These are random scenes of their first time together 'He ripped the nightie from her body, rent it in two from top to toe and threw it aside before sweeping her shaking body up into his arms and carrying her to the bed. He held her briefly against his damp body, hot eyes raking over her naked flesh before spreading her out on the quilt.... A sob caught in her throat, her eyes squeezing tightly shut against the pressure of his titanic desire seeking entry into her almost virginal body.'

That said, when I first read the book in my late teens I was apparently okay with it because I didn't remember these details before reread. I am definitely shocked at how I didn't hate this book then, but the writing is honestly not bad.

This story was so very good after the last disappointing one I've read, it was so romantic in a way I couldn’t believe it. I loved the hero so much; he was super super sweet and like hard on the outside and a cuddly bear in the inside.
The heroine did get on my nerves in some point but all in all the story was to keep it's going straight to my favorite shelf… :)

I do not know if I like or hate this piece.

No matter how hard I tried to relate to the heroine...I just couldn't.
I just wish the hero had another type of heroine HAHAHA!

OVERALL my reaction was this:

It’s more than a year since I read this book.
The H is a liar when he said that he loved the h at first sight, ML’s Hs always stated that they just lust at the first sight for the h, and they started to love them a little later, to me implies that they start to fall after they had sex with them after a few times, if the chemistry is explosive. I doubt they would love the heroine is the sex is lukewarm. But I believe many times that they fall/lust for the OW at first sight.
The H in this book is a BIG FAT LIAR and CHEATER. What kind of excuse that he had sex with other women because he was so strongly attracted to the heroine but is not getting sex with her that he slept around many times. In his twist mind he did not think that he was cheating, that he just need to sate his lust in other places. Really! If he truly loved her he would not cheat and the lust would not be sated so easily with the OWs. Later when he said that he will be a faithful husband now, it is implied now that he is getting sex with the heroine. What faithfulness is that? If he cheated her many times. In future when she will give birth for the future children, each time that she will give birth, after 2 or 3 months she should resting and not having sex, will he be faithful and celibate or he will use the same excuse as before? Or if the worst happened and she would be incapacitaded or have a terminal illness, he will cheat while his wife is lonely, suffering and dying. In another book ML did the same with the heroine’s father. The BIG FAT CHEATER was sleeping around when the heroine’s mother was with a terminal illness and the stupid heroine forgave him when he said that sex and love are too different things. WTF? While you are sleeping around because you need comfort and warmth, what about your wife that is dying and suffering? The SOB did not stayed faithful for the little time that the poor woman has left in this world.
ML’s Hs are only capable of being faithful to the OWs not to the heroines.
Although I like Miranda Lee’s books, I have three things to pointed out. First, I love that her heroines are strong and not a doormat or a spineless creature, second that I like is that her Hs always backs the hs up against the OW, if the OWs proves to be a bitchy to heroines. Third that I didn’t like and I hate immensely is that many of ML’s H are faithful or celibate after the OWs but they never are faithful or celibate to the heroines. Her H are a highly sexual creatures, but it seems after they separated/lost/divorced or become a widower they lost the sexual appetite, doing it he remained faithful/celibate because of his OW until they meet the heroine and their lust come back. But they are incapable of being faithful/celibate after meeting the heroine, even if they are attracted, loved the heroine or even worse married to the heroine, he will cheat the heroine if he cannot have sex with the heroine, he will sleep around. It shows that the power of the OW sexual attraction is more powerful over the heroine, for me simply states that they are more commited to the OW and never the heroine.

Líbila se mi do chvíle, kdy Sophie pojala úmysl

s. 100 Setkali se pohledem a on rázným a nesmlouvavým krokem zamířil do domu (...)

Tedy Godfrey.
Godfrey had had very little hair even where he should have had some. He´d told her once he´d been going bald since he was twenty-three.

Než spolu začali spát, měl občas i jiné ženy. „Ale jen z obavy o tebe...“ (s. 139)
A hrdinku to tak dojalo. Božínku.

s. 16 Dívala se něj
s. 19 Shopii [Sophii]

uvozovky - s. 20, 53
špatné dělení slov - s. 119

TOTALMENTE.

"The Bride in Blue" is the story of Sophia and Jonathon.

Wow.. so.. sexy.

So the story is very very dramatic. Heroine has an affair with the hero's older and married brother. The brother dies, and the hero marries the then pregnant heroine. She tells him she would never love him, so the hero sakes his lust in OW while the heroine slowly starts getting interested in the hero thanks to the housekeepers coaxing.
Anyways, tragedy strikes, and the second half is the very erotic awakening of the heroine. This busty goddess gets a carnal workout, there's some miscommunications but ends in a HEA. There's sad backstories, scarred mothers, crazy OW and a mad mad hero. Pure insanity but enjoyable.

2 stars. Finely written, but I didn't really like the story all that much and the angst wasn't present for me. I also didn't really feel the relationship between the hero and heroine; it was pretty much all lust-based.

There was no cheating for me either since it's a marriage of convenience at first and the hero and heroine are very clear with each other beforehand that both can have sex with OP as long as its discreet. When the hero and heroine are finally intimate and make it clear they're going to attempt a real marriage, both are faithful. Anyways...there's no grovel, since there's no big event that needed groveling for...

Well, that was a tad regressive.

But I did like one small exchange :
'Are you saying you've loved me all along?' he said, utterly taken aback.

'No, I don't think so any more than I think you loved me all along. It was desire we both felt in the beginning. But, somewhere along the line, our desire for each other did deepen to love. We grew to know each other and we liked what we saw.'

Sweet and yet, practical and believable.

I liked it...
You know in days I didn't want any specific meaning in a book, and just wanted to be amused and entertained, this kind of books are safe choices. no stress, no Evil characters ... Everyone is just simple and relatable.
I've read tons of books ... I love literature.... But I think not every book needs to be noble price winner

It was really idiotic
I didn't warm up to the h at all, she was really irritating.
H was decent and better than the whole cast and certainly deserved a better h.
Though epilogue was decent but naming your child for your brother (which in case shared a romantic past no thank you!).
