Fifth book in the Starsky & Hutch novelization series, this story is based upon the first season’s 13th episode “Terror on the Docks”. As with the other books in this short, eight book series this is a tightly written story that also expands upon some scenes and the characters of the criminals in the story, in particular.
This story, however, also offers some added depth of characterization for Starsky & Hutch as well. In particular, Hutch is given a bit more background here when a girl he knew when he was younger reappears and asks Hutch to give her away at her upcoming wedding. As it turns out her fiancé is involved in heists at the Los Angeles docks and, of course, Starsky & Hutch become involved.
Overall it’s an engaging enough, fast-moving tale with several twists and turns along the way. Starsky’s red & white Gran Torino is spinning out, Hutch’s brown Ford plays back-up duty, Huggy Bear shows up for brief comic relief, Captain Dobey is ready to provide his boys backup (while chastising them for not following his orders) and the duo is always chasing down the bad guys with guns drawn and blazing. Starsky still eats bad and never works out while Hutch drinks his health elixir (which almost proves deadly this time) and goes to the gym daily. Of course the running gag of the duo correcting somebody along the way as to which one of them is Starsky and which one is Hutch is here too.
It’s Starsky & Hutch. What’s not to like? It’s like comfort food on a cold day.
