The Okefenokee Swamp is located in the Southeast part of Georgia. It has been said that this is one place in the U.S. that you are guaranteed to see an alligator! I will just take their word for it.
The pictures in the book are not as striking as more modern photographs due to the advances in digital technology and photography. However, they are good enough to complement a wonderful piece of writing. The author includes beautiful descriptions of the Okefenokee landscapes, flora, and fauna, and he mixes in a lot of interesting aspects of the human history associated with it. Well worth reading for those that dream of adventure or have a love for nature, particularly the Okefenokee Swamp.
This book is on the American Wilderness shelf of my home library. I enjoy the photography by Patricia Caulfield, and now I take time to read the text by Franklin Russell. The well-written text made this area appealling until I really consider how much I hate mucking about in land so difficult to travel across that is filled with mosquitoes. I recommend this book for all armchair travelers.
