Captain Donavan is an army nurse in Vietnam. She tends to the wounded, barely coping with the senselessness of the war as men die around her. Then a major gives her a pep talk that helps her reel in her emotions so she can be brave for the men.

It's a very short book. Barely anything happens, but it's a good introduction to the Vietnam War for reluctant readers. It gives a little detail about the siege known as Hamburger Hill. It's interspersed with comic-like graphics and fact pages about the weapons and aircraft. If it had been longer I would have given it 4 stars. Definitely too short.

Recommended for gr. 5-9. Reluctant readers will probably like this mix of graphic novel-like illustrations, low-level text, and video game-like "debriefing" pages, which provide the reader with facts about the Vietnam War and various military equipment and weapons. It is a war story, so violence and some gore is expected. Interestingly, this particular volume follows a female nurse at a MASH hospital near the front, and because there is a small hint of romance, I'm not sure how well it will appeal to boys (the usual audience for this series).
Side note: The publisher's description of this book does not quite match the actual storyline.
Side note 2: On page 48, there appears to be a misprint. The conversation between the 2 nurses does not make sense unless the first paragraph is Donovan speaking rather than Martin.

This book is full of action. If you like the army and war then read this book and the rest of the series. In this book and the other ones you will find information about the guns, equipment, and vehicles used in the time period it was used. Also it is about one family history in war.

Good, for what it is. I wish the author had chosen not to include cigarette smoking in such a brief novel.

The title of my book is Bloodlines Emergency OPS. The author of my book is Zachary Sherman. The lexile level is 770. This story takes place in a battlefield the main character is donovan and she is a military nurse and the soldiers depend on her to take care of them when they get hurt.
The central idea of this book is that she is a nurse that needs to save soldiers. The setting is the battlefield. She is a redheaded girl that lived in arizona. The book is really good at tiny details.
I really liked this book. I really liked how she doesn’t like it at the beginning and then she turns out to like her job healing people and sending them back out on the battlefield. I really liked the ending cause she met up with the guy that she patched up first and she found him on the field blown up.
