In the jungles of South Borneo, an orangutan has set up home on a dangerous palm oil plantation. He has been resisting all attempts to move him to the safety of the nearby reservation. When Ben and Zoe arrive to try to help, they discover that illegal logging is taking place. As they investigate, it quickly becomes clear that the orangutan isn't the only one in grave danger . . .
Children's book reminiscent of The Magic Tree House series, but geared towards ecological learning. This very quick read featured two children solving a mystery in Borneo. Positive points include writing about Bornean Rainforest animals and ecological issues such as greedy plantation owners, rainforest destruction, loss of habitat for indigenous animals such as the orangutan, and the planting of mono-crops such as palm oil trees at the expense of forest diversity. The gadgets and tech devices that the children used seemed like a plot device to solve all problems such as translation of foreign languages, navigation assistance, emergency calls, voice recorders and life-saving cables. It would be more interesting to me, had the children used their own brain-power to accomplish some of these tasks. Good for 6-12 year olds, depending upon your reader. I read this book in order to recommend it as a monthly read for children who volunteer at our local zoo.
In Rainforest Rescue, the third book in the WILD Rescue series, Jan Burchett delivers another exciting mission packed with action, danger, and a strong message about protecting the planet. Twins Ben and Zoe are once again called into action by the secretive WILD organization, this time heading deep into the rainforest for one of their most challenging rescues yet.
As with the previous books, the story is fast-paced and full of heart. The rainforest setting adds a new level of danger and discovery, with unexpected obstacles and plenty of tense moments. Burchett uses the environment to build suspense while also teaching readers about the animals and ecosystems that make rainforests so vital—and so vulnerable.
Ben and Zoe remain relatable, brave, and quick on their feet. Their commitment to helping animals and working as a team continues to be a highlight of the series. While the mission itself brings excitement, it also reinforces important lessons about respecting nature and standing up for what’s right—even when the odds are against you.
Another great book in this series. Close calls, danger, suspense, fun, good characters, cute animals and a good ending. Can't wait to read more. Enjoy!
If you could imagine Jack and Annie from the Magic Treehouse, the Spy Kids and the Kratt Brothers all rolled into a book series - Wild Rescue would be it!
Ben and Zoe Woodward are twins who are operatives in WILD, a top-secret environmental organization. Their missions take them to different places all over the world, but they have one goal - saving animals in danger and protecting the environment. I have read four in this series and I think these are perfect for third and forth grade students who are reading chapter books but still need some pictures and a larger font. This is also perfect for those animal lovers!
