She seemed as innocent as a flower, the perfect pawn for a deliciously wicked game of seduction and surrender..
He appeared as sly as a fox, daring his lovely opponent to explore temptations beyond her wildest dreams...
A rake and a scoundrel, Dominic Wyndham hungered for new sensations that could rival his adventures as a spy during the Napoleonic Wars. Opportunity arrived in the shapely form of Catriona Sinclair, a beautiful young highlander. She begged the handsome lord to return to her beloved Scotland, on a mysterious mission. And to her surprise, Dominic agreed -- one one condition: one simple game to amuse themselves on their seven-day journey. Catriona would join him in exploring the seven deadly sins, one for each day. And though she found it easy to resist many of the earthly pleasures this charming Englishman offered, there was one sin, one temptation, she couldn't deny -- the lust for passion...
I really loved the story. It is a Highland story for those of you that like those historicals might like this one. Catriona did get on my nerves a time or two, but I loved Dominic. He was a straight up hero through the entire book, he was just in disquise as a dissolute rake. Word of caution, the print is TINY and my eyes are still seeing double after finishing it. It is a 2nd book in a series of two, now I have to pick up the first one. The couple is referenced and has a couple of minor appearances, but it didn't in anyway detract from the story. I do hope that some day Ms. Ross finds her muse again to write, because she can write so well and put such emotions her characters. I didn't like Dominic at first, but once you get his backstory, you can't help but fall in love with him. If you like Judith Ivory's writing style, you might like JR's. They have a similar emotional impact writing style, IMO.
Terrific story with a really fine hero. Catriona (the heroine) is a little annoying with her drama, deceptions and tricks, but she does grow on one. I loved the descriptions of the Scottish Highlands and the ordinary highlanders who lived there. The villain was too over-the-top for me (I can't believe that a psychopath would be quite so relentlessly psychopathic), but otherwise, this story seems like one that will improve on re-reading.
There were so many things about this book I didn't like that I don't even know where to begin. The heroine, Catriona, went a little beyond just being a strong woman, in my opinion. The hero, Dominic, was an interesting character but even he got annoying towards the end. Overall, the story itself was very intriguing but the main characters were a pain in the butt. I had to skip over a lot of their scenes just to find out what was going to happen next. I was tempted to put the book down and never pick it up again. I persevered, however, and finished the book two weeks and five books after starting it. I can honestly say I won't be reading this one again.
Dominic Wyndom, ex-spy and younger brother to an Earl is an addict to adrenalin so he is a risk taker. He soon learns that his estranged wife Harriet is dead. Her companion, Catriona Sinclair, has sought him and wants him to travel to Scotland and claim his wife's baby. Though he knows that the baby is not his, Dominic finds himself fascinated by the seeming spinsterish Catriona. He agrees to go on the condition that she travel with him, as though she were his mistress. He pushes to test others as he enjoys testing himself.
During the Napoleonic wars, Dominic Wyndham was looking for an adventure. This came in the form of Catriona Sinclair(really Catriona MacNorrin), a beautiful young highlander. I liked the story but there were several instances where I couldn't figure out the purpose of the plot. The first was Catriona's agreement to explore the sins with Dominic after only knowing him less than an hour. All his actions initially made him seem like a lecher sans morals but by the end he was a very honorable man. This was also too sensual of a novel for my preference.
Also, Julia Ross one of the best authors ever, this story is so original and so good. I had to get my library to interlibrary loan these for me, they were so worth the wait!
