A corpse in the forest. An quaint inn in chaos. Can this ex-spy figure out whodunit before her grandmother is arrested for the crime?
Charlotte Mission, ex-spy turned private investigator, is her small town’s one and only fixer. She’s the person people come to when there’s trouble afoot.
So, when her retired spy grandmother, Gamma, comes to her with a problem, she’s more than happy to help. Anything to protect the Gossip Inn and its eclectic guests.
The corpse of an unknown man has been found in the forest surrounding the inn.
It’s murder, and the handsome local detective is convinced that a guest at the inn is the culprit.
But Charlie’s not so sure. Her grandmother has plenty of enemies, and there’s a chance that one of them has finally found her.
With the pressure rising, Charlie’s got to figure out whodunnit before Gamma gets in more trouble than she can handle.
Come along with Charlie Mission and her eccentric British grandmother as they kick bad-guy butt. Grab the first in this brand new spin-off series from USA Today bestseller Rosie A. Point and settle in with old friends.

I didn’t realize how much I’d missed reading about Gamma and Charlie on a case, but I devoured this book in practically one sitting. I loved reading about their latest gadgets and how they sneakily used those on people or crime scenes while bringing perps to the police’s attention without anyone knowing they were who caught the person to begin with. And now there’s another possible person in the mix which maybe we’ll get to meet in this series.
I really loved how it ended. Gamma was never one to get very sentimental but you could definitely tell she and Charlie were on the same page. Can’t wait to borrow and read the next book when it’s out!
The plot was all over the place, I have to admit. But that isn't a bad thing. The story kept me interested and it was nice to follow along on the saga of Charlie Mission. Definitely going to revisit this series.
I listened to this story on YouTube because I enjoy Rosie's Bite Size series and assumed this was another from the same series. It's a new series, and I'm not as big of a fan For me, this story was more like a children's spy story, like Alex Rider, than a murder mystery, with items and plot points that went beyond suspension of disbelief. I also felt the two main characters were vaguely written. For example, they are both retired spies, but are agile enough for the physical demands of crime investigation, but one is two generations older than the other. So I have no idea how old either of them are. I'm still going to listen to the Bite Size series, as I enjoy Rosie's writing, but the rest of this series is a miss for me.
I have read other books by this author and always enjoyed her work and again she did not fail to disappoint. This book had it all, murder, humor, and I sense a possible romance in the future between Charlotte and had antagonistic sheriff. Good clean read.
A really cozy, action-packed mystery—this is actually the first book in the Charlie Mission series, though it’s my second read after Carrot Cake Jailbreak. We follow Charlotte Mission, a spy currently residing in the small town of Gossip, and her Gamma, who is also an ex-spy living undercover. Since I read the books out of order, it was great to see where it all began! This book is around 100 pages, which makes it a perfectly digestible read for a slow and anxious reader like me.
I love the writing style; it keeps my attention hooked the whole time. Just like the other book, this one is filled with delicious treats and a lot of action. We meet Detective Goode for the first time here, and the slow-burning thing between the ex-spy and the detective is definitely palpable.
It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s exactly the comforting read I needed. I even spotted some hints for the third book! I’m giving this 4 stars because it felt like a step up from the second book, and my mystery-searching soul is very satisfied.
Another corpse at the Gossip Inn. Charlie wants excitement but hot at the expense of family and friends. Have their covers been blown or is this an unrelated murder? If she and her grandmother can't solve the case they’ll have to call Grandpa for help and it could mean the end of their time in Gossip.
This book is full of cozy spy action and mystery. The arsenal and all the other spy gear add to the plot and I love the idea of a kitten rescue run by two ex-spies in hiding. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
I love how the previous series ties in with this book. Making it one giant mystery. Aaron Goode is a man who’s never giving up. I love how Charlie and her grandmother are always thinking ahead of the detectives. Which you can tell, drives Detective Goode crazy. What an incredible story. I’m in love with the main characters. Love how the books stay consistent. Not one bit of the story is confusing. Everything makes perfect sense. I feel like I’m part of the book helping solve the endless mysteries.
Charlotte and her grandmother, Georgina have guests at their inn. One of the guests is murdered. Meanwhile, her grandmother finds that her system has been hacked and some cameras disabled at the time of the murder. Is there a spy on the premises and if so, what is his agenda? A page turner with a twist as Charlotte finds out more about her grandmother. I like the description of the characters and the rural setting.
Charlie is back!!! She now has her own apartment but still hangs out with Gamma. During a party at the Gossip Inn a dead man is found in the woods behind the inn. Gamma has security around the inn and yet there is no evidence of anybody leaving. Does that mean the killer is a guest? It is up to Charlie and Gamma to figure out what is going on and who the dead man is. Another great mystery from the brilliant mind of Rosie A. Point.
I read this because it’s Book 1 in the Charlie Mission series. I did not know it was a spinoff of another series. Would have liked this book more had I known that.
Something Charlie does to a suspect seemed farcical, even for fiction. No spoilers. I also got tired of the tension between her and Aaron Goode.
Overall, it’s a decent read. Might read more by this author.
Charlotte finally has guests at the inn but unfortunately for one of the guests he is murdered. Charlotte and Gamma decide to find out why the guest was murdered so they know and that more guests will come back to the inn. Rosie A. Point has done well again and I hope there are more because I simply adore Charlie and Gamma.
I’m so excited that Charlie and Gamma have returned in a new series! The Gossip Inn series was one of my very favorite of all times, so to now have a spin-off is great! This first one did not disappoint. It is short and easy to read. There’s lots of intrigue, suspects and a surprise ending! Well worth the read!
Another Charlie and Gamma mystery caper with Halloween party, Goode and Charlie swapping snippy dialogue, hints of a Spy in trouble (Food Truck Spy series coming up) - ooh love it all. Small Town, gossip, Charlie and Gamma Spy skills with murder to solve what's not to love
Ms. Point pens a fun small town cozy about a retired spy and one in hiding that live in a small B&B. She combines humor with the intrigue and eclectic characters. She also tosses in the possibility of a romance. Fun and short. I received an arc copy gratis with no strings attached.
It was wonderful catching up with Charlie and her Gamma in this new book. It was lovely catching up with the events in Gossip. As with all of Rosie's books, interesting characters and wonderful story
This is a fun adventure with way too many spy cliches. The characters are fleshed out, the plot is easily followed, and the premise is finding out who killed one of the people at the costume party and why. The answers were hard to believe. However, I do recommend this story.
A body near the inn points to trouble for Charlie and her Gamma. They worry an enemy has found them. I especially liked the banter Charlie has with Aaron.
Charming and cozy mystery, I loved how fast-paced it felt. I might have to read more in this series because it was so easy to read and I need to catch up on my reading goal for the year.
Mystery, spies, murder, truth serum…all come together in this cozy story of a Grandma and her Granddaughter who are ‘spies’ — solving crimes. A fun read!
I thought this was such an interesting plot. The story was a great start to a new series. I enjoyed the characters and the repartee between Charlotte and Aaron. Recommend reading.
This is a fun, short, small town cozy mystery about a retired spy and one in hiding at a small B&B.There is intrigue, humor and eclectic, interesting characters plus a slight chance of romance. I received an ARC copy of the book and this is my honest review.
