Classic Hand Tools

Rate this book
Before the machine age, all woodworking and carpentry was done with hand tools, and an amazing variety of tools evolved for a wide range of tasks. Many of these tools are as elegant as they are ingenious, and Classic Hand Tools celebrates their great heritage in words and pictures.

Lo que más me ha gustado es que el libro está muy ilustrado con imágenes de herramientas antiguas muy bonitas. Me ha servido para coger ideas para fabricarme algunas herramientas. Por lo demás en libro tampoco cuenta gran cosa.

This book is an interesting read in small doses. I was delighted to find that I learned a lot about the kind of craftsman that my great grandfather was from reading Mr. Hack's descriptions of the proper use of hand tools as I restored the fire-damaged machinist's chest that I inherited of Grandfather Lewis. As I read this book with the chest in pieces in the basement, I was able to read the tool marks left by the maker - a real craftsman.

Thorough, precise and his love for the tools came through in his writing. Encyclopaedic in nature, but a delight to read for anyone who has ever used a well-tuned hand tool.

Beautiful paean to hand tools. Beware if you're susceptible to new hobbies, because this looks just delicious.

Classic hand tools is geared for a beginning woodworker who wants to get into hand tools. He balances giving basic information about tools with teaching basic techniques. It is an enjoyable read for someone who just wants to browse.
