Two little girls decide to sleep in a tent in the back yard. They have fun until their imagination starts to get the better of them. They hear a grumble of a giant. She tosses out her beans so the giant can climb a beanstalk. Then they go out and look and see a shadow with wings and are sure a dragon is coming to get them. Then at last she hears pirates coming to get her. She makes a wish on her magic ring and they are gone too. Now they can sleep.

This cute book shows what kinds of fun can ensue when two little girls go camping. I would highly recommend this book to anyone exploring a camping or empowerment theme.

I read "Mai" as sounding like 'my' instead of 'may' for most of the book until it came up in a rhyme because that's the pronunciation that made sense for the ai vowel. Other than the one rhyme, which could have been something else, the name was not integral to the story so it could have easily been changed or at least used a standard spelling.

Just in time for summer and backyard camp outs! Rhyming text describes imaginary visitors as darkness falls on two friends having a backyard sleepover. Great for camping, bedtime, imagination, friends themed preschool storytimes.

This book is wonderful and I have re-read it time after time with my 3 year old. The illustrations are magical and the author's storytelling brings the excitement of childhood sleepovers to life. More please Kathryn & Barefoot!
