Love story PAST... When a tough fourteen-year-old rescued a lost little girl, friendship was inevitable. Wealthy Whitney Grand didn't care that he was "that boy from trash town." Dean Russell was her hero, and no one could ever break them up! PRESENT... The impossible had happened. Something was breaking them up, but even Whitney couldn't have predicted...hormones! What else could make her fantasize about Dean's kisses? Certainly not the L word! FUTURE... Dean knew there was no escape. But Whitney seemed bent on showing him that he was the only man for her. And he was beginning to believe her...
She moved away from him, rising to her feet. "And if we don't like what we find, then maybe what we had wasn't as strong as we thought it was."
"No.'' The word was low and tight, vehement, and he was on his feet, his hands on her arms. "We weren't wrong. It's strong, Whitney. It's real." He made a visible effort to pull himself together, and smiling, he gave her a little shake. "Best friends, right? No matter what."
He needed something from her, some kind of confirmation. She could see it in his eyes, in his too tense smile. "Best friends," she echoed in a whisper. "No matter what."
"That Boy From Trash Town" is the story of Whitney and Dean.
Get your tissues ready- this is beautiful.
Our heroine was five, and moved to a new town after her father's death, when the fourteen year old hero rescued her. He was from the "trash" part of the town, and being abused by his stepfather- she was the daughter from an effluent family, and being overlooked. They formed an unlikely bond, which grew stronger with age. At present, the heroine madly worships the hero, who works as an attorney. With her heart in her eyes, and a chatter that can drown a sonic boom, she is a ray of sunshine and a breath of fresh air. She forgets every sin, and loves unconditionally, dreaming of her imaginary wedding to the hero. And that is when her world comes crashing down. As she finds out that her mother has been lying to her all along, the hero has an angry outburst which shatters all her illusions. Utterly heartbroken, she leaves town and decides to find her destiny and make a name for herself. But are past bonds so easy to break? Will she ever find the truth?
What a wonderful read. The heroine was so adorable and loving. She signified purity, happiness and devotion towards those she loved. I think when the she started dreaming of her HEA, we as readers could hear ominous music, and alas, destruction soon ensued- of her dreams and her reality. However, she did not give up. Going out to find her true identity, finding success being independent and finally analyzing her complicated feelings for the hero. The heroine was loving, confused and really caring towards the heroine. He had been her shoulder to cry on for years, her constant companion, until he refused to deal with his feelings for her. When he inadvertently hurt her, he quickly realized his mistake, and spent the rest of the book slowly being there for her while giving her the space she needed.
My only grievance is that we didn't see a resolution between Lloyd and the heroine's mother- and that we didn't get an epilogue.
Reviews say: 1. Virgin heroine 2. Hero loving her but not wanting to taint her with his relationship so he wanted to remain friends.
Now that is open to only one interpretation, since they both met at early adolescence and he was hopefully a virgin at 14, she saved herself for him, he didn’t.
Yes, I’m making assumptions, but these are not wild speculations. It’s based on hints given on other reviews. How is a hero comfortable to sleep around and keep the friendship with a woman he loves? And surprisingly they only ever decide that they’re done staying away when the woman is actually ready to move on. THAT is NOT romantic, that is dog in mongers attitude. So no, this is not a love story to me, or appealing at all. IF she accepted he just wanted to be friends SHE would’ve moved on and would have tried to have meaningful relationships, which she clearly didn’t. Moving away from hero is not moving on. Unless she’s ready to try relationships it’s not moving on. It’s called running. So no. I don’t believe it. He tried to stay away? Well he should’ve tried harder so that heroine actually had a life. I hate double standards and imbalances in romance, so unless someone can confirm he saved himself for her, this is really not romantic.
LOVED the book!Heroine comes from a a dysfunctional richy-rich family, hero comes from a broken home with a history of abuse. They both met 18 years ago and became life long friends. The hero is a lawyer and the heroine is always hanging around him, she loves him and accepts the fact that he only wants friendship but things change when she finds out the truth about her father's death and leaves. The hero follows her, he wants her, loves her but doesn't want to taint her. He tries like hell to stay away from her but fails. It was good to see the heroine moving forward and making a new life. I love friends to lovers stories.
I still love it. It's a charming friends to lovers romance that is right up my alley. It's been in a keeper pile for so long, and finally just got done rereading it. It's very light and fluffy with just a subtle hint of heavy drama. It's nothing to think about but something to simply enjoy.
Another one that's nearly as good as I remembered! The sheltered/cynical balance between the heroine and hero isn't quite to my tastes anymore, but there's so much warmth and humor in this, and the heroine is a delightful flavor of madcap. Three and a half, really.
4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super cute story! I loved the dynamic between Dean and Whit and how they were always there to support one another. I think the book ended in a good place to make it short and sweet but I wish their story had been a little longer (just my preference).
Entertaining, although the h can be a bit of a Pollyanna and the H is so wrapped up in himself that he needs someone to tell him to snap out of it. Not safe although it is understandable why it isn't safe.
