Never judge a book for its cover or title! When I picked this small gem off the shelf and dusted it off I started reading to find out if it was as bad as its title. This is a poor and markedly negative reason to read a book, but I’m also occasionally foolish. If Winter Don’t is a parody on the, in 1921 published best seller, If Winter Comes by Arthur Stuart-Menteth Hutchinson (1875-1971). Both books tell the story of two people that should have never gotten married to each other but the difference is that in the Barry Pain (1864-1935) parody the reader has the opportunity to smile and chuckle and with the original tears is the general reaction. I am not really big on parodies as they generally have little or no literary value. This book differs only in blatant misuse of English grammar in the title. I give it three stars because I did enjoy reading it and that is the main reason for reading.

Another Excellent Parody

This is another slice of comedy from the pen of Barry Pain.

The characters are funny, and good at making fun of others. It might be short at 90 minutes reading time, as I read it, but it never stops moving forward to it's conclusion.
The characters all gel together, even with the animosity between a few.

Well worth adding to your collection if you like comedy from a whole different period.... and a complete lack of swearing. It's great to be reading without expletives every paragraph, especially in comedies
