Financial Stewardship: Experience the Freedom of Turning Your Finances Over to God

Rate this book
The Bible has more to say about finances than heaven and hell or faith and prayer. Many misunderstand stewardship. When they read or hear that word they think of hard work or obligation. In fact, the truth is just the opposite. As you will learn, seeing yourself as a steward of God’s resources is the only way to true financial freedom. In this powerful book, Andrew addresses many of the sensitive issues regarding money. He defines Godly stewardship, the first steps to financial prosperity, the parable of the unjust steward, the right and wrong perspectives of the tithe and much more. The Bible has more to say about finances than most major Bible doctrines like heaven and hell or faith and prayer. Jesus used finances and people’s attitude towards money to reveal their hearts. Yet, He said that trusting God in the area of finances was least in the use of your faith. It’s important to know why. True Biblical prosperity isn’t selfish. It’s not for you, it’s so you can be a blessing to others. If you have been confused or uncertain about the role that money should play in your life, this book is for you.

DNF - I made it 3/4 through and finally had to stop. The overarching message is great, and a powerful and truthful one - when we trust God with our financial situation, it changes our lives, our finances, and us for the better.

But this author takes an idea that can be summed up in 3 pages and repeats himself until it's 20 pages long, without really adding much to what he already said.

More importantly, the final straw for me was when Wommack said that people these days worry too much about slavery, since we are all free in Christ so it shouldnt matter if we're a slave to another person. Yikes. Here's a direct quote:

"When your total life is in Christ, you have so much victory and contentment in the Lord that it doesn't matter whether you are living free or as a slave. We are more humanistic today than people were in Paul's time, so you might find this attitude hard to stomach. Our society is all about personal freedoms and self-interest. I'd say that freedom is nearly a god to some people. Yet here, Paul is telling people not to despise Christian slave masters." Pg 100

This is quite the slap in the face to anyone who has experienced, or ancestors have experienced, slavery.

Can we please remember that Paul was human, and had human biases based on society in that era? I don't feel like the topic of human slavery even needed to be brought up either.

Wow, I was with you until you sugar coated human slavery and pointed fingers at the younger generation, which is the straw man argument people of YOUR generation seem to always make.

I'm glad I'm finally giving up on this one.

Every gift and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17).

I like what Andrew said, "Some people, reacting against the curse teaching, have swung in the completely opposite direction and say that the tithe was an Old Testament thing... I don't believe that is true. We're not cursed if we don't, but tithing is still in our best interests" (Wommack 115). The truth is that giving to a church/ministry is not a sin; tithing is a good thing. The truth is that it is all about the heart.

Many people when debating this subject say that, "Since tithing was under law we shouldn't tithe," but if that were true then all of the farmers should not rest their lands because they would fall back under law. The Bible says, "To rest the land during the seventh year by not doing any work which enhances growth" (Ex. 34:21) This is what happened when the Dust Bowl hit. Farmers did not rest the land, so just because something is under law as a command doesn't mean we should not do it. It simply means that we are no longer under the demand of the tithe. We follow the Spirits leading when it comes to our money.

Very inspirational book. Learnt new things on stewardship and giving. The heart and attitude matter just as much as the giving itself.

A great book on handling finances God's way so that you can partake of the prosperity prepared for you as God's child in God's kingdom. Andrew teaches on the faithful stewardship of resources entrusted to us by God. God has entrusted to us financial (and other) resources not only to be a blessing to other people but also to help spread the gospel. God, not our employer or job, is our true source of wealth.

Among the different aspects of handling finances that Andrew tackles in this book is giving. He teaches on the often elusive concept of giving and what role it plays in enjoying financial prosperity in God's kingdom.

Giving is (or at least should be) an expression of our gratitude to God for all He has done for us. It is not a bribe or hush money. It's also an act of faith that helps us recognize God as our source (something I have witnessed in my own life), thereby enabling us to enjoy a peace and security that comes only by seeing Him, and not ourselves, as our source.

Andrew also teaches on the heart that ought to be behind giving and how it is important in reaping maximum benefit, as is promised in scripture, for the giver. That right attitude is summed up in 1 Corinthians 13:3 and 2 Corinthians 9:8.

Andrew cites 2 Corinthians 9:6, highlighting that in order to reap bountifully we must sow bountifully.

You can’t out-give God
God is the source of all promotion and provision
Giving is about trusting God
Giving without faith would be foolishness
Set money aside to give, first.
Faith without works is dead
If you want to prosper through God, you will need to learn how to give
When you are a giver, you will have more money than you will need
Stop trusting money and put your trust in God
Matt 6:21 Your heart is where your treasure is
Trust God for your finances
And you can expect that He will increase you, coz you cannot out-give Him. Amen.

This book uncovers a major paradigm shift. God is the source and we are the stewards. It’s a freeing truth. I just find it interesting how when talking about prosperity, the Bible puts more emphasis on generosity rather than hard work. That’s one difference between the kingdom of God and the world. The love of money brings many griefs. Imagine wealth without painful toil. Andrew explains what the Bible says about finances and gives real life examples. I’m very thankful for this book.

This book has truly transformed my mindset on finances, Knowing that i am a steward that everything i have is from God that He is my provider and money is just a resource He uses to provide for me has set me free from being calculating with my giving in fear of lack. I have learnt that giving is a sign of trusting God and that prosperity in the Kingdom of God can only be achieved by giving. Amazing read!

Another must read

If you are a Christian and you are struggling with your finances, this is a must read. It actually should be a must read for any new believer b/c the Bible is clear that if you are not faithful with money then you cannot be trusted with anything. This is the first place we’re you put your trust in God.

Nice read. Out of the box. If you would like to learn the spiritual principles of giving, and having power over your money, not the other way around, this is a sane read. Though not very easy to put it in action.

Indonesian Version.

Tuhan Yesus memberkati.

Hardness of heart

I believe in the power of God's Word and I believe that God is using Andrew to soften my heart in the area of finances. Many times I have read the scripture that Andrew references but not until now did the Holy Spirit reveal to me that fear of lack has hardened my heart toward God's Word regarding finances. This teaching has softened my heart and renewed my mind. Thank you, Andrew

The author brings up some very good principles about finances, although it is extremely repetitive. Also, there are some interpretations of scripture that I'd like to do some more research on, I'm not totally sure I agreed with everything he said.

A shift in finances

A wonderful book about shifting your perspective in your finances. One if the best quotes of the book was, "if you cannot trust God with something you can see, how will you trust Him with the unseen..." (not verbatim but close)

The best book I have ever read regarding prosperity and finances. The author’s explanation of each scripture used was exceptional. I finally understood a lot of the parables that Jesus said about finances and giving. Thank you.

Overall well done

Whether or not you agree with the author his writing style is clear and he makes his point well. There is some intentional repetition to stress his point which in my opinion it's not really necessary. Overall I could recommend this book.
