(I have also reviewed Bywyd Blodwen Jones and Blodwen Jones A'r Aderyn Prin.)

This comic by Nathan Pyle (author of Strange Beings) came up in my social meedja feed yesterday, and it's very fitting for how I feel about certain characters in the book.

And yet, the diawl trist herself has grown on me, even if she does do my nut in sometimes.

So, the final instalment of Blodwen Jones! In this book, I did wonder whether I should be treating this as a parody of Bridget Jones, rather than a homage ... perhaps it's a bit of both? There is nothing wrong with either take, of course, but I took some of it far more seriously than I should've done. This is how people get into soap operas, isn't it??

Language-wise - I struggled a bit more with this one, kind of on the level I struggled when I first read Bywyd. Helpful context: I'm still early Sylfaen. At one point I left my dictionary on the other side of the house so I could force myself to get words through repetition and context, and while it worked for some words and phrases, it didn't for others. I'll re-visit later on in the course - I re-read Bywyd for the second time six months after the first reading, and it made all the difference.

ADDENDUM: I like the Nofelau Nawr edition, but one thing to keep in mind is that it doesn't have a glossary in the back (comprised of the translation footnotes). It has grammatical notes instead - this seems to be universal across all Nofelau Nawr publications, or at least the ones I own anyhow. While that's still pretty useful if you're unsure of a concept, I personally prefer the glossary as I'm a sod for forgetting new vocab. There is a newer edition of the Blodwen Jones books, released in 2019, that does have a geirfa at the back. So if that's what you're after, just look for the version with the cartoon Blod on the cover, and you're golden.

Plot-wise -

It is due to that last spoilered bit, and that I'm up late on a school night writing this, that it gets a good solid 4. I prefer Aderyn Prin, but the resolution between the two aforementioned characters was just ... nice to have that put to bed, I think.

Oh, and about the ending?

Nice follow up to the previous two short stories about Blodwen. The Welsh level is good for advanced beginners.

Bydd pob dysgwyr darllen y llyfr hwn. Maen hawdd i ddarllen a bleserus. Mae llyfr hwn yn ddoniol iawn, ond ar ôl mi ddarllenais i fo, ro'n i'n teimlo trist oherwydd hi ydy'r olaf yn y gyfres. Be' ydy "quadrology" yng Nghymraeg ?
