A more accurate rating would be 3.5 stars as the stories themselves were a bit of a mixed bag. They were all different and well written but at the end of each story I found myself thinking, "is that really it then". Perhaps it was just me? I note that many readers scored the book 4 or even 5 stars but I just couldn't fully appreciate/engage with these stories.
Perfect short, quick horror stories to read when you're not in the mood to commit to a normal length book. The stories are a mixed bag, but none disappoint. Great just before bedtime, when with a novel you might invest a few minutes of reading time but retain nothing. I'll read the whole little series eventually.
I am a sucker for horror anthologies and the cover intreged me. I thought I gotta give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. The twist of these stories is most of them have the added bonus of reading the story from the other characters perspective. Just when you think you're at the end of the story there is a flip and you get to read it from another side. So not everything is at it originally seems. What a great find. I can hardly wait to read the next volume. Give it a try it's a quick read and you won't be disappointed.
As a huge fan, I can honestly say that this was worth the wait! Once again, Steve Hudgins has created masterfully frightening short stories that keep you bound to your dog with fear!
I got the audible version of the book. Although I guess you could call it "entertaining", most of the stories were lame. I wasn't sure whether the stories were supposed to be humorous or frightening in most cases. I usually don't order audible books because, in the past, the readers have not been very good. Unfortunately, this one was no better than the others I have listened to in the past. If you are looking for entertainment this book would be great but if you're looking for a "nightmare", pass on it.
I don’t like being negative on reviews but I do like to be honest. Some potentially good story ideas here but feel really underwhelmed with this collection. I am by no means an expert but I read a lot of horror and for me the stories were lacking something, they put me in mind of something written by a young high school student and while I enjoyed some of the ideas especially the stories that were followed up from a different characters point of view they were poorly written and not very well developed.
It was eh, not much else, it may well be that anthologies are just not my thing but I found it very middle of the road not and not a pinch of creepiness to it! I’ll definitely not bother with the next ones, but I can say I’ve read it and I can base my next reads on this experience
Well I am reading the big book and just finished part 1. Got to say I loved it and can't wait to read part 2. If you anthologies you will love this book. 5 anthologies out of 5
