I've got a crush on the orc from Accounting. Jonah Greenwood. He's big, nerdy, and exactly my damn type. Well, he would be, if I'd only been able to work up the courage to ask him out at any point in the two years since I first met him.
It seems like a lost cause, but when he catches me checking him out in a Friday afternoon meeting, finds me after work in the parking lot, and accepts my absolutely reckless proposition for a no-strings hook-up, all bets are off.
The Orc from Accounting is a spicy and sweet fast-burn novella set in the world of the Monster Relations Bureau by Leigh Miller.
This book is available for free through the author's website!
Hi, I'm Leigh! I am an indie romance author who writes mainly in the fantasy and paranormal genres. I've been a romance fanatic since the first time I snuck one of my mom's Harlequin paperbacks, and never looked back.
When I'm not writing, I spend a ton of time outdoors camping, hiking, and taking photos. I'm also big into tarot, astrology, and all things witchy,
it was mostly erotica which is fine but i was expecting a little bit more romance 🫣
it's very insta love/lust, a couple of sexy times(one of them at the office🙄) happens from the start and then some dick pics/phone sex 🤭
no epilogue, no ow/om, no third act. i know this was a short novella but didn't give me the ✨feels✨ so i find this okayish but maybe i wasn't in the mood 🤔
I knew going in that this was mostly steam thankfully and while it was good steam, I did wish there was more romantic connection to elevate it to a spicy and sweeter monster romance. Two coworkers, one an orc and one a human, realize they’re both attracted to each other and hook-up. They say they’re interested in more than that, but the deeper connection moments (like talking about their backgrounds and likes) were glossed over. It was still a quick, spicy read, though the end is HFN of them dating and just a few weeks jump ahead in time. Written in first person, single POV from h. No ow/om drama and neither were virgins (h had been celibate for 2 years, no mention of H’s history).
THE ORC FROM ACCOUNTING was really cute, with plenty of spice, and I'm excited to read more in this new series. I love books that feature paranormal beings living regular lives so I'm looking forward to it. Jonah and Susie were fun together and it was an easy read.
A little like Kate Prior's The Orc From the Office in that they're both about orc office romances and there was a revealing of some sort of paranormal creatures and non-human beings. Leigh Miller's is much shorter and features two characters firmly placed in the nervous dorks category. It works.
The Orc from Accounting was a spicy snack! It’s a prequel to the Monster Relations Bureau series and I adored watching the MC’s fumble their way into each other! This gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!
Susie and Jonah were so fun to read about! They were both harboring crushes for each other before acting on it. I love how it comes out in a work meeting with Susie hightailing it out of there due to her embarrassment. Only for sweet Jonah to catch up with her. I loved watching their relationship deepen into someone more than a hookup. The spice was really great and that FaceTime fun?! Good lord 🥵🥵🥵
Something I’ve never seen in a book is the MMC experiencing body image issues. Usually we see it from the FMC as a fleeting “I’m bigger than most girls” type of trope. Seeing it in the MMC was kind of incredible. He’s self conscious after losing a ton of weight and has some extra skin. As someone who had a gastric sleeve in 2021 and also has extra skin… I’ve never felt more in tune with a character. Absolutely amazing. I never thought I’d see a character with the same type of body image problems as me. Thank you Leigh for putting that representation in there! 💚

“Words, Susie. I want to hear your words.”
Susie gets caught ogling the orc from accounting, Jonah. Jonah likes it. Romance ensues.
This is a short and sweet novella that’s packed with heat. I finished it and immediately recced it to one of my book crew on IG who needed something to get her out of her book slump. Jonah is sweet and hot, and even in this novella we get a glimpse of something deeper with him. Susie, as nervous as she is, still stands up for herself, and leaps when she wants to. Delightful.
This was my first read by this author, but not the last. Yes, I have already loaded up a second book onto my Kindle by her and I can’t wait to dig in.
This tiny tiny novella was so good. The tension was delicious and the entire story was fast paced. I loved the little backstory of Jonah and Susie. Sure there wasn't a whole lot of plot but this book is basically two chapters. I enjoyed it and think it was a great palate cleanser. I do wish it was longer and would read the hell out of a full length story with these two. Maybe we'll get to see them again in another book. Overall, it was enjoyable, steamy and had a nice HEA.
This one was super spicy, very low on angst and sweet overall! I adored both MC’s and the chemistry between them was sizzling. A perfect little treat during the day!
I think my favorite part was that even though it’s a fast and spicy read, we touched upon some insecurities regarding yourself. While it was brief, it was definitely appreciated.
Super fun and super cute but also super spicy! Characters are super likable with instant attraction, super low/quickly resolved angst, tender moments, and a wonderful build in spice. I had a fantastic time reading it and can’t recommend enough!
Basic Plot: Suzie hooks up with her orc crush from Accounting.
I mean. Yeah. This is pretty straightforward monster smut. I think I got it for free from the FaRo newsletter. It was a fairly standard office crush-type of story, but with an orc dude instead of a human one. I liked the consent and concern the characters showed for each other. It was honestly pretty sweet of a story when it wasn't just straight-up smut. It was a fun little read.
It was the first time I approached a novella like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Because, as far as they say, it's not just sex—actually, it's much more.
Susie has her insecurities even though she's twenty-seven years old. She still hasn't overcome them, and it shows how intrinsically human she is, less stereotyped as a character. Furthermore, it also suggests that she is not a little girl who only serves the plot to get the two characters to f—.
Jonah, on the other hand, was amazing. Putting aside his "race", it is his character that struck me: strong, sweet, determined. But even Jonah has his insecurities, and he too must learn to accept himself as he is. In addition to a very good dose of sarcasm, particularity and sexiness, Jonah is a well-rounded character that Leigh manages to bring out despite the novella being only 46 pages.
It was strange to start reading this kind of book, but I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us.
I originally read this as the short story “The Orc from Accounting” and loved it, so I was very excited to see Susie’s Orc was being released, this time with Jonah’s POV. It’s such a cute, spicy story between two coworkers that have been mutually yearning for YEARS before finally making a move. They each have their insecurities, but both are so sweet with one another as they work through them together.
Susie and Jonah’s relationship is slightly awkward and off to a bumpy start, but overall so very adorable. And the spice? SPICIN’. Jonah may be a shy orc accountant but he has a sexy alter-ego that comes out for Susie and Susie alone 🔥
I enjoy Leigh Miller’s Monster Relations Bureau stories and this novella is no exception. Definitely give her a try if you’re dipping your toe into monster romance!
When you’ve been pining for each other for over two years and finally give in? Oh, it’s gonna be fast, passionate, and spicy—and that’s exactly what this was! 🔥💀
The storyline was surprisingly solid and could’ve gone on a little longer, but let’s be real… we know why we’re here. 😜 This novella did not disappoint. A fun, filthy, and feel-good monster romance. Enjoy the chaos!
very cute, i just dont find Jonah’s sudden switch to his dominant side genuine. i feel like it could’ve been written in a more authentic tone, otherwise i enjoyed the book.
This was a very short novella from a Monster Relations Bureau series about Jonah and Susie.
If you have read Kenna's Dragon you would have met them before. They are side characters working in different departments of the bureau and we heard a few words about them and their affair - mostly as observations made by others in the office. I'm uncertain if this was written as a teaser for that book, or afterwards to tell a bit more of their story..?
Honestly, I'm not sure that matters as there actually isn't much of a story there at all. The whole thing is written from Susie's perspective and it's mostly erotica - we don't learn much about the characters themselves or their history. Only that at this point they pretty much had a crush on each other for about two years. Both of them. And neither did anything about it until now. I suppose that would explain all the over-the-top lust and what appears to be unmanageable attraction between them. Except I didn't find the smut all that good. I don't know if it just wasn't my cup of tea this time or if I find it better knowing more about the characters and having at least a bit of an emotional connection (I might need to think about that). A lot of it felt a bit cringe and I'm leaning towards it just not hitting the mark for me. But that might just be me.
However, considering there's not much else in the read than the smut my review has to be mostly about that. And while it was a light breeze of a read, even funny at times, I found it a bit meh. But then again, if an hour of heat is what you're after it will work for you just fine.
This short introduction to the series was sweet and spicy. Susie has had a crush on the big orc in accounting since she started working at the office two years ago. She has never felt bold enough to say anything but she decides to be brave and sit next to him in a meeting. During the meeting she can't help but notice what big and strong hands he has. Thinking about his fingers gets her worked up and the massive green orc notices. After the work day is over Jonah, the orc from accounting, approaches her and lets her know he definitely enjoyed her attention. Susie and Jonah have a great time but things are a little rocky after a misunderstanding. The two get thing figured out and enjoy each other. I really loved Jonah's character. He was a bit sheepish and shy but when he was feeling things he was so sexy. I enjoyed the fact that he shared his insecurities with Susie and that he did not shy away from telling her now much he wanted her. Susie was sweet and I was totally cheering her on. She was relatable, charming, and fun to read. This quick monster romance novella was a fun read that I really enjoyed.
First things first, this story is the realest. I did not expect Jonah from Accounting to have body dysmorphia halfway through and I'm actually here for it. It's rare to have book MMCs who are not built like marbled Greek gods and to have one who actually voices his insecurities, AND to have his body described in such a way that's super relatable for people who have lost weight and carry a bit of saggy skin post-weight loss? Okay, run-on sentence and all, but my goodness... I have never relate more to a character than to Jonah... from Accounting lol.
Speaking from experience and perspective of someone who lost a lot of weight, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is so real and weighs so heavily on my mind each day. I may no longer look plus-sized, but I still feel plus-sized, even though my clothing size tells me otherwise. Similarly, Jonah also gets nervous whenever Susie touches his chest or when she's about to take his shirt off because the skin in his chest area has gotten saggy from the weight that he lost. However, Susie's acceptance of Jonah and his "imperfections" helped to remind me that beauty is, ultimately, skin deep.
This is a short novella set in the world of the Monster relationship Bureau. It is a standalone, though, so can be enjoyed before or after the others in the series.
It may be the most adorable, cute, perfect story I have ever read. It had me smiling the whole time I was reading.
The whole story is from Susie's POV, and she is hilarious. She is realistic and relatable, and her interactions with Jonah are so sweet. Jonah is a golden retriever type, and even though we don't get his POV, it is clear he adores Susie. Seeing their relationship develop was beautiful. It is perfectly written in just a few chapters.
This was a low stakes romance with a guaranteed HEA and some steamy spice.
I only read this recently, but I just found out the author might be doing a new version to include Jonahs POV 😬😬 I can't wait to get my hands on it. Leigh Miller has definitely become an auto buy author for me. Her monster romances are some of the best I've read.
Susie, the human female lead, has had a crush on Jonah, the male orc lead, since she started working for the same employer (different department) two years ago. Now in a meeting, she’s distracted by Jonah’s hands and thinking about what they could do to her. When Jonah approaches her afterward, she thinks he’s only offering a hookup but, as they interact with each other, maybe he wants sim ting more? She sure does!
This short story is female lead POV, well written, and a steamy, character driven romance. I enjoyed Susie’s boldness once she finally decided to make a move. I enjoyed Jonah’s bedroom dominance contrasted with his gentleness. I enjoyed their erotic intimate scenes and the character and relationship development. I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I absolutely loved this! It was so cute and sweet with great spice. We start with Susie struggling to pay attention at a meeting because she is sitting by her crush of two years, a Jonah from accounting. With his too big slacks and nerdy disposition she just can’t help but crush on the handsome Orc.
After an embarrassing lustful moment in the meeting Susie is convinced she could never recover and Jonah would never be interested. But to her surprise he is very interested. This follows Jonah and Susie getting to know each other and learning how to navigate dating in the office.
This book had me giggle and kicking my feet while also falling for Jonah’s dirty demanding mouth. I devoured this book and definitely want more!
I really enjoyed this short read and all of its spicy ness. This book I would call like a office type fling romance ish. The main character or characters are working as accountants which is somewhat what I am trying to do and what I went to school for so I enjoyed that little bit of that. If she would have took it a step further with added detail I would have enjoyed it a little more. Nonetheless it was wonderful how it is I see it’s purpose. The orc in this book isn’t barbarish he’s human like. I would go into detail but imma leave it to anyone who is interested to a spicy orc office read. I loved it.
Meh... You could insert the monster name of your choice, and the story really would not have changed. Too predictable of an ending. Too short. Big whoop. I was very disappointed due to lack of any kind of angst or adventure or sheer romance. It didn't even come close to a decent Prologue. Sorry, but I was hoping for something more than a story that was even more more than just for fapping's sake. Perhaps with a little more work, something can be done to create a better book that even an Orc Mother-in-Law would be proud of.
