This is the 2nd book in the series … this one is about Lennox and Davina, a 2nd son and the lairds daughter .. basically two hurt people for diff reasons who find their way to each other … Davinas story was a heartbreaker in the beginning thanks to a horrible father, but Lennox changes things when he becomes the Captain of the Guard.. both main characters were well dev and written, giving the reader a sense of who they both are… Sub character dev also gives you a sense of those around them, and a set up for the next book..

I really enjoy Lennox, for me he just seemed a dream even with his faults .. Davina is another strong young lady making her own way… these characters fit so well together..

I’m a big fan of Ms Castel.. I’ve always felt she is one of the best highland writers out there … and since my family is from Oban, love this even more … a good read..

Kilchurn Castle, Argyll, Scotland
July, 1453

This book is centered on two emotional souls Davina is Laird’s daughter Davina Campbell. She is an emotional wreck since her father murdered her lover. A man he felt was too far beneath her in status. Now her father is determined for her to marry this powerful Laird who is related to King James. It could give Campbell a powerful ally and ear of the King. Yet Davina absolutely refuses and claims she wants to go to the nunnery and become a nun. Not that she is a very pious woman, however her father claims if she leaves she can never return and will be dead to him!

Lennox MacKay was now Captain of the Kilchurn Guard for the Campbell clan. He also was hurt by his own MacKay clan for a number of reasons, one is that his brother Iver who is Laird gave his younger brother Kerr the honor of being the Captain of the Mackay Guard. Instead he made Lennox the Bailiff of Clan Mackay, a position he despised and was one of the reasons he abandoned his family and clan. As he desperately wanted the position Kerr had and was extremely jealous, hurt and angry that his brother had not given him that position that he selfishly felt he deserved!

One of the reasons he went after the position of Captain of the guard with the Canpbell’s is he knew that they were looking for a Captain . Especially after Laird Campbell murdered the former Captain who was his daughter’s secret lover. A man he felt betrayed his Laird and was far beneath his daughter in status. However the other problem Lennox does not have the mens respect yet the former Guard did. So he is pretty much a loner here. A man with no clan or friends as the his men make is very clear they do not like. So he is missing his MacKay clan family and friends. Also knowing he made a big mistake to take this position and deserting his clan! Now he is asked to be the Campbell Lairds daughters nursemaid!

Lennox is not thrilled that he has to escort the headstrong Davina Campbell to the nunnery in Iona when he had just enlisted several new guards that needed to be trained desperately! Unfortunately there is an enemy in their midst that Davina mistakenly trusts and hurts her opportunity to enter the nunnery, as the nun’s reject having Davina in their household. Now Lennox who was home sick missing his clan and offers her to possibly be a companion for his brother’s new wife since she had no place to go. Now Lennox and Davina soon see each other in a new light where one thing leads to another.

The problem is when Lennox offers marriage without the true reason why as Davina being independent and headstrong feels she cant marry any man. She soon realizes this is a mistake where Lennox ignores her but Lennox is also jealousy with any man who shows interest her way. Though Davina knows how handsome and appealing Lennox is to other females. She soon realizes she made a big mistake and is she too late? On top of that will her father feel Lenoox abandoning his position and bringing his daughter to his clan is an act of war? Will this stubborn couple ever be honest and open up their hearts? Read and find out.

Another fabulous Jayne Castel book as this is an author that always knows how to draw readers into her breathtaking Scottish setting and the fascinating characters that she brings to life. Again another phenomenal story that I absolutely loved! This is the second MacKay book in the Rebellious Highland Hearts series and Kerr’s book is next which I can't wait to read. I am definitely enjoying the MacKay brothers and the women that capture their hearts.

Highlander Honored is the perfect romance for lovers of passionate, headstrong characters with strong character development, adventure over beautiful sweeping landscapes, and historical romances with a solid foundation in historical research.

Highlander Honored is the sequel to Highlander Seduced, but it makes for a great standalone. All the backstory we need is adequately included, but we did end the previous book quite dramatically after Iver, first-born son and laird of Dun Ugadale, has a divisive argument with the second-born Mackay brother, Lennox. Lennox is the restless, arrogant brother of the family and his resentmentment towards his brother for appointing him as bailiff instead of captain of the guard comes to a head as Lennox watches Iver seemingly do as he pleases while Lennox is shunned by his community for dutifully collecting taxes and debts just as his brother asks of him. Leaving his role as bailiff of Dun Ugadale to be captain of the guard at Kilchurn Castle, Lennox finds himself no more accepted at Kilchurn and still discontented with circumstances.

And then on top of all this juicy drama, we are introduced to Davina Campbell. Davina is currently locked in a battle of wills against her equally stubborn father, Colin, who wishes to marry her off for political advantage. Colin has tried to get his daughter to marry many different lairds, but Davina is completely heartbroken since her father killed her lover, the former captain of the guard, in a duel for daring to involve himself far above his position with Davina. After one disastrous argument, Colin finally agrees to let Davina take the veil, and he instructs Lennox and his guard to escort her to the nunnery.

Lennox and Davina's attempts to maintain the upper hand over each other during their journey made this story both tension-filled and humorous. They certainly butted heads a few times. At some point, someone had to break, and I couldn't wait for it. And when they did, these two were on fire!

But I was also excited for the growth of these two characters, because both Davina and Lennox struggled with feeling a little lost, frustrated, lonely, and purposeless. They both struggled to take control of their destinies in the midst of circumstances beyond their control. So seeing Lennox and Davina find their ways to an HEA, especially together, was very satisfying and well-earned.

I can't write a review for Jayne Castel's books without again mentioning her dedication to the history of the lands and people she writes about. At the end of every book, she includes a few historical notes and describes the research she put into her characters, the time period, and the locations of that particular story. You can really feel how grounded and real her stories are, and how much she cares for them, especially if you've ever visited Scotland. But if you haven't, you will absolutely be transported back in time to a beautiful, exciting land!

Highlander Honored
Rebellious Highland Hearts #2
Jayne Castel
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Davina Campbell seeks to escape her life at Kilchurn Castle and her father’s domineering ways. After all her father did kill the man she loved who was also the former captain of the guard. She won’t marry any of the men he keeps pushing at her—instead, she will take the veil and make a fresh start, but even that took an argument with her father to get what she wanted. But sometimes the heart decides who it wants no matter what your head may think and the man who leads her escort both infuriates and intrigues her, rousing a dangerous passion.

Lennox Mackay is a tad relentless and he leaves his family behind to take up a new position as Captain of the Kilchurn Guard. However, five months into his new role, he’s charged with escorting the laird’s troublesome daughter to a nunnery. Something he doesn’t really want to do.

What seems like a straightforward task, is not what it seems to be. And when their journey leads them into trouble, Davina and Lennox’s fates become entwined.

Before leaving Kilchurn, they were both lost and restless—but could each be what the other is looking for? Could they both find love if they listen to their hearts?

Jayne Castel is definitely one of my go to authors. Her books are always full of historical tidbits and men and women who don't always agree with eachother at first. This was a wonderful couple who were perfectly paired with eachother. There was just the perfect amount of tension to keep you on the edge of your seat. It just took them a while to see it for themselves. I felt so bad for Davina when there was a traitor who messed their plans up making even the nuns reject the poor woman. Then when our hero figures out a plan that Davina can go back to his clan and be a companion to his new sister in law, I wanted to jump for joy. This story took me on a gauntlet of emotions, but I felt like I was right there with Davina and Lennox learning and watching the story evolve. Ms. Castel once again you have written a story that I will not soon forget. This story left me with that warm fuzzy feeling inside and happy because I can't wait for the next one.

Thank you to Jayne Castel for the honour of arc reviewing her next book. It's easy to lose yourself in her books; her writing of the Scottish Highlands is a visual feast of description that paints wonderful imagery in the imagation. The 3rd person engaging narrative draws you into the story of her characters.

The story from book 1 continues beginning after the fall out between the Mackay brother over an ill-matched marriage to a servant. Lennox Mackay accepted an offer to become Captain of the Guard at Kilchurn. But he's failed to settle and win the respect of his men. Lonely and bitter, he is homesick for his own clan and kin. When he is ordered by the Campbell to take his daughter to take the veil, he sees the opportunity to head home after taking his charge to the nunnery on Iona.

After refusing her father ultimatum to marry or be disowned, Davina Campbell is leaving her home in disgrace and dead to the only family she has. Her life ahead looks bleak and basic as she feels her only option is to take holy orders.

Their journey brings out a side of Lennox that Davina hasn't see while he was captain for her father. Stirring forbidden temptations for them both. When their plans go astray thanks to a traitor, leaving Davina rejected by the nuns and with no place to go. Unable to leave her in desperate and dangerous circumstances, Lennox invites her back to his clan to be companion to his brother new wife. Forced together in close quarters, their attraction continues to burn and feelings grow as the pair make a life with the Mackay broch.

The romance arc between Davina and Lennox is deliciously crafted and full of moments develop both characters adding depth and real heat-wrenching moments as they fall in love. If you love honourable, fierce warriors with unlive you vibes and heart of gold, then Lennox Mackay is your Highlander.

Tropes to expect:

♡ Strangers to lovers
♡ He falls first
♡ Honourable marriage proposal
♡ Forced Proximity
♡ Only one horse
♡ She saves his life

Every time I pick up a book by this author, I know I'm in for a treat. The characters are always feisty and relatable and the details are meticulous. This book is the second in the Rebellious Highland Hearts series. It can be read as a standalone, but this book directly relates to the ending of the previous book.

After losing her lover, Davina Campbell insists she'll never marry, much to the consternation of her father. He wants her to marry a clan leader for political gain, but when Davina refuses, he allows Davina to go to Iona Abbey to become a nun. He then tells her this means she is no longer welcome in his house. Heartbroken, Davina prepares for the journey.

Because her father must send her dowry with her to the Abbey, he tasks Lennox Mackay and a few of his men to accompany Davina. Lennox is a solitary man, made more so by the position of bailiff he held while living at home. Longing for a more fulfilling position, he travelled to the Campbells to become captain.

Initially annoyed with the assigned duty, Lennox becomes drawn to Davina and feels she is a kindred spirit. They both long for more in their lives. But will either of them find true happiness?

I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the next installment.

Family, Destiny, Rejection, Solutions:
Honestly, I must say this is a heart wrenching dramatic all-consuming story with wonderful characters that grabbed at my heartstrings.
Now, we all know that a laird's daughter in the year 1453 is supposed to get married to form an alliance with the neighboring clan.
So, what's a girl going to do when she doesn't want to get married? Davina is about to tell her father No!!!
We now follow her as she and Lennox who her father has put in charge of her safe journey to the nunnery where she would like to take the veil.
Now you know this is a romance story so what can possibly go wrong on their journey? For one (because there are many) how about a dangerous situation. This is where the villain comes into the story and for Davina and Lennox their destiny now has a new path. Hopefully to a happy ending, but will they get all of their issue resolved?
Favorite scene had to do with a tear, Lennox captured my heart, the spider scene was hilarious. Oh, and have your lady's fan ready.

When I first met Lennox and Davina in the first book of the series, I was not sure how their relationship would go. Lennox did not come off as easily swayed by love, Davina with her broken heart, and both lost and wanting to run away from home. You really feel for these two and it was a journey for them to navigate through. But it was so worth the read and really heartwarming with how they learn to trust, communicate, and love each other.

I love the support, strength, and protection they had even when all hope seemed lost - and there were many times. Davina seemed fragile but she is smart, strong-willed, and unapologetically saw and accepted Lennox for who he was while he gave her a safe place and space to start anew without forcing her to choose. Do not sleep on this beautiful story, and definitely take in every detail.

Love love love this book! Another spectacular story in the Rebellious Highland Hearts series. Lennox and Davina are both strong-willed and searching for where they each belong (no surprise, it's with each other!).

Davina has vowed to never take a husband, so she plans to become a nun. Lennox is the new captain of Davina's father's guard, having left his own family to find his place in the world. Lennox is charged with escorting Davina to the abbey. Along the journey, attraction blossoms into desire, but are they too stubborn to let feelings grow?

I love both of these characters so much. I was not a Lennox fan in the first book of this series, told from his brother's POV, but in this book he is the perfect hero for Davina. She is the perfect heroine for Lennox. They bring out the absolute best in each other, their on-page chemistry is outstanding, and they bring ALL the heat!

Very highly recommended!

When her first love is killed in a duel with her father, Davina Campbell insists she'll never marry. Her father insists that she marry for political gain, she refuses and demands to be allowed to go to an abbey and become a nun. Furious, her father allows this, but disowns her. He sends the head of his guard, Lennox Mackay, to accompany her and her large dowry to the abbey. Along the way, the dowry is stolen, the abbess refuses her entrance, and Davina is homeless. Lennox offers to take her to his clan and a lot happens on the way. The book is well paced, full of action, drama, sizzle, steam, and so much more. This is the second book in the Rebellious Highland Hearts series and fortunately they are all available to read for free with your Kindle Unlimited Subscription. I can't wait to go back and read book 1. Solid read.

I am a fan of Jayne Castel as her words flow from page to page. They detail beautiful settings, intelligent conversations, and great storylines that are authentic, never overdone. I read for 5 hours straight the first night!
From page one, you are drawn into a life altering argument between a father and daughter. I was hooked! Lennox and Davina are unwillingly and regrettably thrown together. This journey reveals fears, strengths, faults and backstories that resulted in hardened hearts. But an unexpected “Highlander’s honor” opens the door to lives and choices never known or imagined. Lennox is a man to love.
You will not be disappointed with this story or the series!!.

After a failed romance, Davina Campbell has been withdrawing from life and is determined to take the Veil, but to achieve that, she has to convince her father.
Lennox MacKay has taken the position of head guard at the Campbell strong-hold; however, he just hasn’t been able to fit in and is adrift. He is charged with escorting Lady Davina to the Island of Iona which he is not happy about.
Their journey does not go as planned and takes an unexpected turn, leaving them depending on each other to survive.
Another great read: the descriptions of Scotland, were so well written you can easily visualise it; each character had a believable back story and the events drew me in and kept my interest to the end, now I can’t wait for the next story.

An unexpected love match
Another fantastic story in Jayne Castel’s Rebellious Highland Hearts series set in 1453 Scotland.
Featuring Lennox Mackay, brother of Iver, Laird of Dun Ugadale. Feeling that he doesn’t fit in at his home he takes a position as Captain of the Guard for Laird Colin Campbell.
Charged to take Lady Davina Campbell to take the veil at the Isle of Iona they head off on an unforgettable journey.
Facing danger on the way Davina’s plans drastically change leading her onto another path with Lennox right by her side.
I loved the characters and the storyline and look forward to reading Kerr’s story next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend reading it.

If you're looking for a fast fun summer read this book fits the bill. Both main characters have a nice growth arc and while the hero is a tough highlander he doesn't come with the toxic masculinity a lot of romances have.

The heroine is overcoming grief and that is well articulated and beautiful. She doesn't diminish her prior love while still knowing she has found something special with the hero.

It's a steamy read going from zero to 69 quickly so if you're looking for a long slow burn this isn't it!.

A deeply depressed but willful, passionate and independent woman, Davina's life has spiralled out of control. Lennox is a second son who is restless and unfulfilled seeking something he cannot identify. Thrown together this unlikely couple face a series of challenges the greatest of which may be their own entrenched beliefs. Lots of action, twists and turns, family reunions, love and romance in the Highlands.

Loved this book.

I reread Highlander Seduced, book one in this series since it had been a while since I had read it. I wanted to refresh myself with the introduction to Lennox and Davina. I am glad I did, but you this isn't necessary - you would also enjoy it as a standalone book

This was a story of two lost, and unhappy people who unexpectedly find joy with each other.

I can't wait for book 3, Kerr and Rose's story.

I liked Iver and Bonnie's story, but I adored Lennox and Davina's story! There is just something about overcoming adversity that makes a story nice and juicy. Davina has her issues in spades, but finds a kindred soul in Lennox MacKay. I also find the MacKay books heartfelt because before they were Clan MacKay, the ancient Clan was Morgan, which is my grandmother's Clan. 😘.
