Rate this book
After discovering their ability to time travel and narrowly escaping the Siege of Kerak, best friends Ashton Sinclair and Imogen Blaine decide to embark on a new adventure in the past.

They appear in ninth century France, amidst the tumultuous twilight of the Carolingian Empire. Without a real plan as to what to do on their historical vacation, they meet a young Frankish princess with a bloody mission, and find themselves spiralling deeper into a plot of rebellions, espionage, and mystery. The empire, and the future of Europe itself, hangs in the balance.

The stakes are higher than they know. But does the road they walk carry too high a toll?

The Frankish Fille was even better than the first book. French history is my favourite, so I may be biased. This one was so much fun, a lot more action and a lot more stakes. Please note I know the author and this review does not reflect that.

Within this book we see Ashton and Imogen figure out how they travelled back in history, this time going on a better planned trip then last time. This made it a little more interesting and gave us a little bit more of a hint to the magic or science of the time travel.

We travel back in time to Francia in the 9th Century where the duo stumble upon a Princess with a mission. They join Princess Melisandre as she tries to save her kingdom by moving around the political pawns of the Francia Chessboard.

This book was full of political intrigue and a lot of important historical characters. I loved it. I love how one little forgotten princess could make such a dent in the political power of the time. Exploring the idea of whether small actions change history.

The fighting and action got even more juicier! I didn't want to put it down. The author has improved since the first book on writing fight sequences. You can see the knowledge and research come off the page through detailed descriptions.

I don't want to spoil anything but this book gave me a feeling of a young adult Dan Brown like book. I would love more books in the series like that. A little bit of mystery drizzled amongst the history and action!

I really enjoyed the first book. I liked this one even more! I can't wait to see where this series goes. I have predictions, and I cannot wait to see if I am right. Mostly on the destinations of history. I highly recommend this book.
