Who knew meeting the in-laws could be this... haunting?
I was all nerves on my way to Chicago, but stumbling upon a lifeless golfer took the jittery feeling to a whole new level. And guess who makes a spectral entrance in front of my future family? Joyce, the golfers' ghost, of course!
Now my secret ghost-whispering abilities are out in the open, leaving me questioning if I should've stayed home. Surprisingly, my soon-to-be in-laws not only believe me but also offer to help solve the case. With a ghost in tow, a murder mystery to unravel, and the pressure of impressing my future family, it's safe to say my vacation has gone from latte to downright espresso.
Grab a cup of joe, cozy up, and join Audrey Fitzgerald in the next spooktacular installment of the Ghost Detective Mysteries. This paranormal cozy mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat, with a talking cat, a ghostly sidekick, and a murder that needs a shot of justice!
Audrey again gets mixed up with a ghost, Joyce, and needs to solve that ghost’s likely murder, so she can move on. This time, Audrey and Kade are in Chicago. They’re engaged, so this trip is for Audrey to meet Kade’s parents and for Kade to spend some quality time with his mother and father..
I thought this was a great addition to this series, but it’s a bit different from past books. Never fear though, it’s equally enjoyable. Having Kade’s parents, Sylvia and Dennis, and Joyce’s friends and neighbors, Sally and Hazel, all residents of the retirement community where they live, in on the fun was brilliant. I also loved the retirement community. It’s remarkably upscale and sounds like a great place to live. I’d love to know how Kade’s parents afford it. I also wish there was such a place in real life, right on Lake Michigan, with everything one might need close at hand.
If I have one complaint, it’s that this takes place in Chicago, but Audrey and Kade hardly leave the retirement community. They do no sightseeing. That seems kind of sad given all the amazing landmarks and venues Chicago has to offer. But perhaps I feel that way only because Chicago is my hometown and I know how rich of a tourism site it is.
This book is packed with humor and action. Kade and Audrey are as cute as ever, and Kade’s parents are just as great as he is. And cameo appearances from Seb, Thor, and Bandit add a lovely touch of comic relief. Sadly, no Ben this time around, but even though he isn’t with Audrey and Kade, he often seems to be there.
This book won’t disappoint. I highly recommend it.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
I really enjoy this series. The author manages to bypass just about every aspect of a cozy mystery that bugs me. The pacing of the story pleases me; I do not feel as if a bunch of material is added just to "build suspense" or simply pad the narrative. Audrey and Kade are just ever so appealing. I like that there is not an abundance of inter-family angst, there is just a little bit of conflict. When I like a character as much as I like Audrey, it would upset me to see people being mean to her. Also ... Thor and Bandit and those covers!!
☆ EASY COME EASY GHOST: Ghost Detective Book # 8 ☆ JANE HINCHEY ☆ I RATE 6☆ OUT OF 5☆!
A HOLE IN ONE! BY FAR, THE BEST GHOST DETECTIVE BOOK YET!!
IT'S A HINCHEY HUMOURFEST!!!
Please, Jane, Keep Up the 'Hilarious Hinchey Humour' And make me Howl And Holler, Caking Me Up Till The Day I Die!
My favourite thing about this book, it contains much more humour than usual! As a regular reader & constant devourer of everything Jane Hinchey, (aka Zarha Stone) I have been asking for bigger laughs & a lot more of them as she does it oh so well. Aussie authors have some of the best sense of humour in the world! This book had my checks hurting with all the hilariously funny antics, incidents & one-liners that are timed to purr-fection! Congratulations Jane, this is your best escape into the cozy genre for Merriment, Murder, Mystery, a Minute amount of Magic, Madness, and Absolute Mayhem. At times I laughed myself silly. And yes, I'm looking at you Bandit (It's your fault I coped a mauling from my dog for laughing out loud, which made me laugh even more. And I read the whole book with a silly big dopey grin on my face from start to finish! I just love the way this author makes me feel, like having a big injection of love & happiness and everything's right in the World!
But did I have any concerns? Yes, just the one. How was Jane going to add the farcical & amusing shenanigans of Naughty & Nice, Thor & Bandit into a story they are not physically present for? Really, I shouldn't have worried, Ms Hinchey had it covered as any good 'Pet Parent' does. Kudos, by the way, one of the funniest scenes to ever grace a Hinchey novel! I no longer see Tom Cruise sliding across the hardwood floors in socks to 'Old Time Rock & Roll' by Bob Seger, you know what I'm talking about, but no spoilers will be posted here for the 'Easy Come, Easy Ghost' virgins! Lol.
Great writing & editing, never more than a couple of simple typos appear in these books making the reader's experience even more enjoyable. Please keep the Hilarious Hinchey Humour cracking me up at warp speed!
This book is riddled with humour, just like the elderly residents of Torres Place Retirement Community are riddled with arthritis! The one & only 'Lake Michigan Mischief Makers!'
I freakin' LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Book! The humour & laughs are neverending & so funny you could almost wet yourself with laughter! Jane Hinchey, you're just outrageous with the MM (name of the slick 3's shenanigans, ie devilish divas). Where do you get these ideas? I sure hope when my time comes to retire, I live in a retirement village just like Torre Palace with residents who care about each other and 'go the extra mile' just like the Devilish Divas to keep residents 'happy with huge smiles on their dials!'
Her Best Book Yet!
I RATE EASY COME, EASY GHOST 6☆ OUT OF 5☆!
This is my fair, honest, and impartial review as always. I received an ARC from the author & own a signed paperback version too.

Oh what fun this book in the Ghost Detective series. In this adventure we have Audrey and her fiance Detective Kade, going to Chicago to meet Kade's parents. With Audrey's gift of being able to communicate with ghosts, she worried to meet her new in-laws hoping it will be smooth and nothing strange will happen during the visit. And although she left her beloved pets, Thor the needy and Bandit with her neighbor and best friend, Seb. When Audrey and Kade arrive at his parent's retirement community, the first thing that happens is Audrey is approached by a ghost, Joyce, who wants her to figure out what happened. Mistakenly talking to the ghost in the presence of her in-laws lets her secret out. But instead of freaking out about Audrey's abilities, they embrace them. Not only that, but they want to investigate Joyce's death since it being a retirement community, her death is written off as natural causes. Besides, Kade is a detective and his father is retired police. This book is so much fun with Audrey's future sister-in-law is an awful pain when it comes to Audrey planning her wedding, Seb calling to give Audrey updates on her pets and Joyce's golfing friends. Between the chuckles we are given a really convoluted murder mystery. This series is so much fun and I can't wait until Kade and Audrey are married something else to make Audrey get extremely nervous over. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Worried about leaving her beloved cat Thor and mischievous raccoon Bandit, may be more stressful for Audrey Fitzgerald than meeting her future in-laws in their new home in Chicago when she travels with her fiancé Detective Kade Galloway to meet them. When they arrive, she realizes she has nothing to worry about since Kade’s parents are wonderful. When a victim’s ghost appears to Audrey and directs her to the body, unfortunately, Kade and her parents are with her when she begins to communicate with the ghost. While wondering how she can keep such a secret from her future in-laws, she soon discovers that they are more than okay with Audrey seeing and communicating with ghosts and they want to help with the investigation. This charming series is a wonderful escape from reality, and it is so easy to fall in love with Audrey, hunky Kade and delightful Thor and Bandit. I love this series! This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Poor Audrey she can't even go to Chicago with her fiance to meet his parents without a ghost popping up. First the flight there was insane, then at the first meeting of her soon to be in-laws she begins talking to a woman in their apartment who she believes is a friend or family member. Of course that isn't the case and her secret is out. The in-laws get all excited helping solve the murder mystery which helps them to bond. During her time there Seb is lovingly taking care of Bandit and Thor, which is hilarious in it's own but then he also has to deal with her sister in law. My goodness, you just can't help but coming back for more when reading a book by Jane Hinchey. It's a great series but I actually missed her best friend in this specific book. As always I look forward to the next book and can honestly recommend this book and the whole series to any reader who loves comedy, love and crazy pets and a ghost as your best friend.
Read books in order, you will love how it all started. Loved how her soon to bin-laws were so accepting, didnt react in a way that they wanted to be Part of the adventure!. There bonded she fell in love of them and so supporting. I really think the bonding of the son and father was wonderful. I enjoyed how not only finding the perfect dress for her wedding, Sylvia told her to go with her Mom,Sister and sister in law and look she could honestly say she didnt find one she liked. Seb supported the person was watching over the fur babies. Seb ran interferince from her bossy sister in law. Firmly told her how she was stepping way over the line. Told her to butt out that, when Audra -the bride -could choose her own cake samples. It could wait until bride got back from her meeting the in-laws to be. The mystery was solved and as a team, Kade and Audrey were going to tackle her pushy sister-in law, and let her know Audry didn't need to be fixed
Audrey is terrified to meet her future in-laws, and being mocked by a plane full of ghosts who died in a crash isn’t helping! She manages to get her emotions under control and is greeted by her fiancé’s parents with open arms, but in true Audrey form, she puts her foot in her mouth almost immediately. When the ghost of a golfer appears in the condo, Audrey assumes she is very much alive and engages in conversation with her. Suddenly, her powers are out in the open, and Kade’s family is all in on solving the mysterious murder!
Another fantastic story in one of my favorite series! Poor Thor and Bandit have been left behind with (even poorer) Seb while Audrey and Kade travel to Chicago. But thank goodness for Facetime! I missed Ben in this story, but I know he will be right there when Audrey gets home.
Do yourself a favor and start this series. I promise you will devour it and beg for more!
I love this series and this latest installment was such an enjoyable read. Audrey and Kade are on the way to Chicago to meet his parents and the hi-jinx start on the plane ride and only increase when Audrey actually meets the in-laws. She assumes she is meeting another relative at the apartment, but it turns out to be Joyce, a ghost, who had lived in that apartment and died earlier that day. Kade’s parents are amazingly onboard with the all the ghost talking and actually get in on the action to solve the mystery of who killed Joyce. There are two other elderly women who were friends of Joyce and the three of them were in on a scheme at the community which also must be resolved. Plenty of adventure and mystery abound. Audrey is also in touch with her pets from home and dealing with wedding details. She also finds the perfect wedding dress with her future mother-in-law. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book in this series and I highly recommend it.
Meeting the in-laws for the first time makes anyone nervous, and Audrey was in for a surprise she hadn't seen coming. Bonus with the in law! I found the adventures of the elderly trio very entertaining and how they had been getting away with it is really a mystery. Poor Audrey suddenly found herself with too much on her plate with a wedding and the mystery she felt compelled to solve. Even something was worrying the groom. I love these cozy mysteries where the protagonist is not only a ghost whisperer, but she has to deal with her own flaws and her family inquisition. The 'in the secret' group seems to grow. And I can't leave behind the cute pets that make me smile every time they appear. A story with funny situations, curious characters, many almost, almost, culprits and a lot of clues to follow.
Audrey is going to meet Kade's parents but she has to get through the flight first.Let's say i could have Audrey's powers I woul take thd ability tp talk to animals but not the ghoats becauze i don't like flying to begin with but to sharr an entirre flight with people who died in a plane crash too much as it is Audrey is stressing about meeting his parents.. Not even being there a day Audrey is caught talking to a ghost who did a weekend at bernie's with her two best friends. The way Audrey bonds with her soon to be inlaws is to solve Joyce's murder. Not only do her inlaws love her but Audrey also finds her wedding dress while shopping with her soon to br mother inlaw. Another great boom in the series.
A bit of a departure this time with Audrey and Kade away from home, but Audrey still manages to attract another ghost at the most awkward of moments. Kade was his usual wonderful self, Audrey was as klutzy as always, and the ghost and her friends were very good value for money. I missed Ben and there wasn't enough Thor and Bandit, obviously, but Seb made me laugh again. Kade's parents were such fun and his mother especially was lovely with Audrey. Just the sort of support she needed when Amanda was as Amanda as she could be, even from afar. I've been reading Jane's books from the very beginning and she used to write steamy books that I loved, but she has gone in a new direction too with her cosy mysteries. While my tastes have changed, I can't resist her Ghost Detective series and I hope we get many more books in this series.
Audrey is back and this time she and her fiancé Kade are off to Chicago so that Kade’s parents can meet her at last. Simple right, if you’ve been reading this series then you should know better, what kind of story would this be without a ghost wanting their murder solved. Meet Joyce, she was going golfing with her best friends when the day took an unexpected turn and she ended up a ghost who of corse meets Audrey, who then must try to solve this mystery while hiding her special gift from her future in- laws? I recommend you read this book to find out what goes on with Audrey, Kade, his parents and even Joyce, you won’t be sorry.
This is another fabulously written, smart cozy mystery that had me laughing out loud. I recommend reading these in series order.
This story has Audrey and Kade are in Chicago so Audrey can meet the future in-laws. Things start to go off the rails before they even get to Chicago, and the arrival of a ghost wanting her murder solved shouldn't have been a surprise. Kade's parents are excited and eager to help, and everyone is swept up in solving the murder while wedding planning. The fast pace and whirlwind feeling we're both the perfect escape and felt all too real. If the craziness in Chicago wasn't enough, we also get Seb who was left behind to keep an eye on Thor and Bandit to add even more humor.
It's a clean, fun mystey that are entertaining from the first to last page.
Audrey and Kade are back, and I am so excited. Their dynamic is so loving and fun, and I am over the moon that we got to meet Kade’s parents. I was a little bummed that we didn’t get to see much of Seb, Bandit, and Thor, and we didn’t see Ben at all, but, again, it was fun to meet Kade’s parents. This latest in the series is full of wild fun, and Audrey is always so capable and gets to the bottom of every murder she encounters. While this mystery isn’t overly difficult, the trip to find the perpetrator is a fun adventure with Sylvia and Dennis. I can’t wait to see what happens at the Bridal Expo in the next book. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
the clumsy pi and dashing police detective are moving ahead towards walking down the aisle. meeting his folks- cool, except for the ghosts on the plane.
getting outed by a ghost in their apartment- unexpected. having the senior Galloways ready to dip into a murder investigation, and having them not bat an eye over her psychic skills? pricelessly awesome
bad guys, crazy actors, bad actors, and an evil acting sister in law trying to take over the wedding- maddening. also par for the course for Audrey- who is exactly as hilariously awful on a golf course as I had imagined
sweet, sad and horrific mixed with butt kicking women seeking justice
Easy Come, Easy Ghost is the 8th book in the Ghost Detective series by Jane Hinchey.
Audrey and Kade go to Chicago so Audrey can meet her future-in-laws. Seb is watching Thor and Bandit, so what could co wrong?
This series keeps getting better and better! Things start going awry before Audrey and Kade even get to Chicago. This was really entertaining and had some very sweet moments. And we still got some Thor and Bandit time in the story. The murder victim was something else. The investigation was a fun family affair. I can’t wait for the next book!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
By the end of Chapter Two, I was laughing so hard! Between the plane and meeting Sylvia and Dennis…. I feel I will be in stitches most of the way through it. God, I love Seb! The book's best line for me was, "I'm not only a school teacher, but I'm gay. I live for drama." Oh boy, I did not see the ending that happened to come. It took me a bit to put 1 + 1 together to get 3! Who are Anne, Tom, Hayden, and Paul? What were people trying to hide? What a fun read this was! While you can read this as a stand-alone, I recommend starting from the beginning of the series to see how Aubrey became the PI she is today!
Great addition to the series as we have Audrey and Kade flying off to spend time with Kade's parents who have ended their great Australia adventure and moved into a retirement community in Chicago. Her beloved pets are being taken care of by her neighbor, Seb, and he is also working on planning the wedding. Things start off on a ghoulish note when Audrey discovers there are at least a dozen ghosts on the flight, all injured in some way with some missing entire limbs. As if flying wasn't bad enough. Ugh. She also immediately "comes out" to her future in-laws when she mistakes a ghost for another family member and tries to shake her hand. Double ugh. But apparently Kade's parents are more interested in finding the body than they are in why it is she can interact with ghosts. Wow, that was unexpected. Huh.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Audrey with Kade in tow always seems to be finding themselves with mysteries to solve, she can't even go to visit Kade's parents without finding herself in the middle of another one! In this entertaining read, Audrey gets to meet her future in-laws whilst trying not to spill the beans on her ability to talk with and see ghosts, something that can't be kept a secret for too long though when she meets one and thinks it's a family member!
But you know with Audrey she'll be doing her best to solve another crime.
On a trip to Chicago to meet her future in-laws, Audrey finds a ghost tagging along. When they discover Audrey can converse with ghosts they are excited and eager to join in on the investigation. This is a fun series with clever plots and interesting characters. A perfect ease breezy summer beach read! Highly recommended fun mystery. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.
I love this series and so look forward to reading each book as they come out. I curl up on the sofa with a hot cup of coffee and I dive right on in. Audrey and Kade are off to meet Kate’s parents in Chicago who hopes for a smooth ride but of course that’s not going to happen as we meet Joyce the golfing ghost who wants her murder solved. It’s a super fun, super entertaining cozy mystery as the chaos ensues and Kade’s parents turn out to be awesome and super supportive of Audrey. Fantastic characters, fantastic storyline and we are creeping closer to the wedding!!
When I read a new series, I go into it without expectations, even when it's my favorite authors. That way I am rarely disappointed. In this book, the characters grew on me rather quickly and I like that happening. There was a strong connection almost immediately. The idea of seeing ghosts is not new, but this story had a slightly different slant to it, so it was easy to go with the flow. The plot is easily followed and fairly straightforward and the premise was finding out who killed Joyce and why. There were lots of red herrings and misjudgements. I most definitely recommend this book!
It's hard enough for Audrey to meet her future in-laws for the first time without having a ghost appear and her to start talking to it. But her in-laws are great and they go looking for the body of the ghost and then get involved with solving her murder. Audrey is her usual clumsy self and, as usual, the ghost is very little help. Great characters, so laugh aloud moments and a well plotted mystery.
Audrey is heading to Chicago with Kade to meet her future in laws. Audrey is just so appealingly relatable. She is clumsy, says the wrong thing, has a hard time standing up to her family; she is a heroine for us regular folks. These stories are so funny and really different from all the other cozy mysteries. A dead woman on the golf course and her future in laws are helping with the investigation, what could go wrong. This was the best story yet and I look forward to more and more of Audrey.
Audrey and Kade fly to Chicago to visit Kade's parents. As luck would have it, Audrey finds herself in another mystery surrounding a dead golfer as soon as she meets her soon to be in laws. This series is such a fun cozy to read. I always enjoy the positions that Audrey usually finds herself in. Add in two crazy animals, one hot fiance, and a ghostly BFF (who was missed this time around) and you have yourself a book that doesn't disappoint!
This was a good continuation of the series. The pacing is still decent and the characters are entertaining. My favorite part was Audrey's video chat with Thor. It made me laugh out loud. I found it to be fairly easy to figure out who the culprit was. The book was still interesting and kept me wanting to read though. I am voluntarily reviewing this book, gifted to me by the author with no obligation.
Audrey and Kade took a trip to meet his parents, Dennis and Sylvia. Audrey had an issue on the plane with all the ghosts riding with her. As luck would have it not 15 minutes after meeting the parents in walks Joyce (ghost) and Audrey introduced herself as if Joyce was a living person. Audrey had to explain that she saw and communicated with ghosts. Now they had to solve the murder. A very quick paced read with intriguing characters. On to the next book in the series.
Reading this book felt like coming home and reuniting with friends and family. While the base of this book is murder, it was an interesting read and it made me laugh a lot! Audrey and Kade are just perfect and it's always fun to read their story.
I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.
