Another ‘Free RPG Day’ has passed and I always feel like since the store has participated I should at least buy something.

So I bought a half-off trade paper back. This one. It has a beautiful cover! I’ve never heard of the series but it looked like there would be some good tales from it. I never even knew this was a series!

Leather Bound starts with fantastic art and Gotham City-Years Ago .

”I tell you, Wayne, it is impossible to find competent employees. You’d figure eleven dollars an hour would satisfy them, but noooo— “cost of living.” Hmph.”

It’s a pretty good one-and-done story of a nut-job that wants to become another Killer Croc .

Castle Arkham: On Haunted Wings appears to be an Elseworlds story about Batman as a monster-hunter in Victorian times.

Very pretty artwork, but it didn’t really add anything new — just a different setting and different history.

The Wheelman of Gotham is done in this old-timey art style that I absolutely hate. No offense to Michael Cho but it just doesn’t work for me.

But it was a pretty cool story. Batman & Robin chase a getaway driver who has a touch of the Speed Force.

Bludhaven Watching appears to be a Nightwing story and the art, though uncredited is excellent. I can’t even complain about Nightwing’s boots!

It’s also very cool to see that they show Nightwing doing things like Batman does them, but Nightwing actually enjoys doing it! He also cares what happens to the people he busts.

Night Terrors actually appears to be a Tim Drake (Robin #3) story.

It’s kind of a cool story about moments we didn’t get t see.

Tiny Hands in the Dark is a clever, though contrived Batman story.

The next story, unnamed is about Renee Montoya questioning some of the things she had to do as a rookie. You know, the type of harassment police do every day to people of color. It’s an interesting and action-less story. I hope it helps. Not sure comic books are the way, but kind of glad to see it happening.

The next story is a rather lame Anarky story about people 3D printing Batman’s gadgets. It’s got no point, no direction, and no logical sequence of action.

The next story starts with a bang. It’s a ‘Robin-Year Two’ story. The art is fantastic so far.

That was a very good capper.

Well, there was good, there was bad, but more good than bad. I’ll give this 4 stars and keep it. And actually I’ll look for others in the series.

This was a great final installment to the Batman Urban Legends series. Finally a collection of short stories that were well written and a great balance between witty humor & sentimental plots to make your heartstrings swell.

We have a total of 17 short stories ranging from villain-centered arcs like The ventriloquist, Anarchy, & Firefly to more centered plots like "My Son" centered around an injured Damien Wayne in duty and his concerned & at times overbearing parents, Talia & Bruce, being concerned over his wellbeing. The Director was another great plot that centered on a cinematography student as the hired person to play the bait for Nightwing in order to film high-stakes videos with Blüdhaven's finest cast as the leading man to solve the mystery and save a group of ex-goon/criminals from becoming hostages and hunted down by the Flamingo.

The story arcs were all enjoyable and relatively short, ranging between 10-15 pages each, allowing for depth while also keeping the plot brief. Another fan favorite of mine was the inclusion of Dr. Destiny with an Arkham takeover sedating the patients & staff into a paranoid sleep while Batman has to face his own fears of being paralyzed and unable to help Robin (Tim Drake) with the fear he will fail him like he did Jason but Tim prevails and they save the day.

This was truly a magnificent conclusion to this series because it mastered the flow of delivering multiple plots with precision & brevity.

Overall, this series, in retrospect, was well written, barring Vol 4, which failed to fully encapsulate the concept of short stories, with many bearing the JLA team-ups feeling forced or drawn out. Vols 1, 2, 3, & 5 were the best (following notable arcs like Cheerdrops & Batman's team up with Zatanna) with vols 2 & 6 mastering the concept of multiple short stories.

9.5/10 🌟 for the overall plot and cohesive flow presented in Vol 6.

As for the overall series, I would give it a solid 8.0/10 🌟 since there were many enjoyable arcs but a few did fall short at times.

This final volume of Urban Legends collects all of the bits and pieces from the past 23 issues that haven't already been collected elsewhere.

I won't go through everything here, but of particular note are the Wheelman story with Michael Cho on art, the medieval inspired Jim Zub/Max Raynor story Castle Arkham, and Jamal Campbell's (writing and on art) Nightwing tale.

Most of the other stories are fairly short and were usually just popped into the back of the longer issues to make up the page count, though there isn't anything particularly bad on display.

Urban Legends has come and gone, and while it has been a bit inconsistent, its quality has certainly been much higher than some anthology series in recent memory.

Batman: Urban Legends Vol. 6 collects issues 18-23 of the DC Comics series written by Brandon Easton, Jim Zud, Anthony Falcone, Jamal Campbell, Tini Howard, Greg Hahn, Zac Thompson, Joey Esposito, Nadia Shammas, Julio Anta, Vedove Travis, and Kenny Porter with art by Will Robson, Max Dunbar, Michael Cho, Jamal Campbell, Max Raynor, Mike Norton, Hayden Sherman, Mikel Janin, Jahnoy Lindsay, Miguel Mendonca, Lucas Silvera, and Simone Di Meo.

12 Batman tales with stories including Batman investigating a series of reptile killings, an Elseworlds tale with Batman as a monster slayer, Batman and Robin chasing a getaway driver who has a connection to the Speed Force, Nightwing and Oracle tracking down a mysterious director who has been secretly setting up and recording crimes to turn them into movies, and many more.

The Getaway and Nightwing/Oracle stories were by far the best collected in this volume. This 6th volumes brings the end to the Urban Legends series. There were a few really greats arcs collected here but it was mostly full of a lot of middle ground.

Admittedly I’ve been reading Batman Urban Legends in single issue format on Infinite but this is the best way to catalog it

Amazing to see John Dee Dr Destiny in what could’ve been a throwaway scarecrow story, sandman forever baby
-but on a serious note I do think Tim saying “do you want to talk about him?” Will stay in my mind for a long time, beautiful

The Renee Montoya story was WONDERFULLLL I loved everything it had to say, Renee’s a real one, grow as a person, learn from your mistakes, don’t trust police

This wraps up the Urban Legends Batman anthology title with some middling stories. Standouts are Jamal Campbell's Nightwing story. He's making his case to take over as artist on that title with this story. Michael Cho's Wheelman story was interesting. The rest are lackluster at best. You can tell the title has run its course at this point.

Did a great job at focusing on stories mainly about Batman which carried the book along with the Nightwing story. The Montoya story was only bad story from the bunch.
