Volume 8 of the Alice in Borderland manga series starts with a short side story. The second half of it introduces the players (and the readers) to the new stage of the game, with some new rules and new arenas. Not too much action in this one, regarding the well-known characters, but it sets the foundation for what is coming.
Come from Netflix series because I can't wait for ss2! Finished the whole manga within a few days and it was such a pleasure experience
The idea is briliant, still haven't wrapped my head around how the author was able to come up with such awesome and meaningful story like that. It really makes me question my true identity on the verge of death, when I have to make choices that I bet my life on. I think I'll never know who I really am
I like all the characters. It's a shame that the 2 best friends of Arisu die too soon. I wanted to see them more in the story, but like the story said at some point, their deaths are " necessary evil" for Arisu to mature. Shibuki was a calculating person and will do anything to hold on to her life. I cried when she smiles and embraces Chunta during her last few seconds of the hide and seek game. It's like she finally accepts her fate that she is about to die. It was such a hard moment for Shibuki to let go considering what she did in the past, but she did it, and at least she was happy in her last moment
This is the beginning of season 2. The ruthless king of spades’ long game has been introduced and our little team has narrowly escaped. They are now about to play the king of clubs’ game.

Truly unfortunate that the volume with Kuina's cover is the lowest rated book in the whole series for me. She's my favorite character. But the fact remains that while the whole manga is really obviously seen by the male gaze (hypersexualizing women, acts of toxic masculinity passed off as inevitable scenarios etc) this volume really lets me down on a whole other level. Don't get me wrong, having a positive transwoman character in a mainstream manga is awesome, especially considering this whole series doesn't even touch on other forms of queer sexuality like gay or lesbian identities. She's essentially the only canonical queer representative. So when the whole volume feels off, it feels even worse to me. Nonetheless, her character is still really awesome and this volume matters to me.
my long-winded story for no reason at all: i was watching sweet home on netflix (which is absolutely brilliant), and later a came across this yt video called 'how to beat every monster in sweet home', and after that another video called 'how to beat every death game in alice in borderland'. i pretty much spoiled the entire tv show for myself, but i ended up watching it anyway. the alice in borderland live-action is so good. SO GOOD!! i picked up the manga from where the show left off because it leaves you yearning for more of this twisted, enigmatic science-fiction universe. i'm not in love with the art style of this manga, but the plot is plenty to keep me going.

Very much felt like a filler volume. I did like the short side story at the beginning. Though I feel super silly thinking that whenever the translation wrote Clubs as Combination games, that that meant they were a combination of intelligence, psychological, and physical strength. Nope. It just means teamwork XD
Poor Arisu though. He just can't win.
I'm a little confused on the kings and queens and the rules there. We'll see how it continues!
Mouais.
Volume 8 opens up with another side-story, giving us a glimpse of another new character (Yamane Kaito). The side-story deals with the Four of Clubs game (which is also seen in the Netflix series, but with several changes). After the side story, we begin to see the transition from dealer games to resident games. Next volume will be starting with our first face card game, the King of Clubs! 5/5
