Still the best book on Alaska aviation and the only one that includes interviews with so many of the original bush pilots. Really well written and a must-read for anyone interested in the bush pilot era.

If there are two things I love, it's planes and Alaska, so it's no surprise I enjoyed this seat-of-the-pants tour of interwar and wartime aviation in the far north. With chapter titles like 'The Flyingest People' and 'Over My Station Right Now', and accounts of terrific bravery and luck by the pilots, some skilled and some just very determined, I raced through it. I especially liked the account of the early pilots who on making the first landing at a remote location were showered with gifts including 'Husky pups'. The journey home must have been fun.

This book was funny, entertaining, heart wrenching... I never thought I could be so interested in the early flight of Alaska! Potter really brings the pilots and their voices and characters to life!

An historical period in Alaskan history, told through the lives of individual pilots. Fun learning.
