As we've continued our study of measurement, my four and five year old students have moved into exploring volume, specifically in the measurement of liquid and dry goods. We used this book as a tool to give mathematical underpinnings to measurement in a kitchen project (making trail mix!). I love the simplicity of the book -- that it ONLY attempts to highlight for young learners that measuring cups are different from any ol' cup you might pick up and measuring cups can help you successfully accomplish tasks that would be challenging otherwise. My students are young enough that we don't need to get into details (2 half cups equal one whole cup, etc., etc.). I JUST need them to know that measuring cups help us measure volume. That's it. And this book does it perfectly, in a highly entertaining (and rhyming) way. I was really happy to have found this in our school library.
