Braided rugs are like family quilts – each strip of cloth comes from a cast-off garment and tells a story all its own. Piecing the rug together is an act of weaving family memories into a useful heirloom you'll treasure forever. Nancy Bubel covers every step of the simple process, from planning the perfect size, shape, and color scheme to cutting your cloth strips, braiding them together, and finishing off your rug.
I was impressed with the clarity of the instructions in this manual. Storey's collection of "how to" books are always interesting. The author gave excellent examples of color combinations and different styles and uses of the finished braided rugs. I also enjoyed the brief history of rug braiding and what to do and not to do when selecting materials for your project.
Interesting, brief, and a decent primer on how to make a braided rug. This one doesn't present any sewing-less options, which is something to keep in mind. It does tell you approximately how wide to cut different types/weights of fabric to get the best results, which I appreciated, so you're not stuck waiting until you have enough t-shirts to cut up, for example.
