The vibe was completely off in the opening of Perspectives on Sentence Processing, like the author was clearing their throat for forty pages. Hang in there, though. Once Charles Clifton Jr. drops the main character in a snowed-in cabin with a stranger who knows too much, the book finally comes alive, and the scene with the missing wood pile is nasty-good. The setup is slow and a little cliché. For readers who like a cabin-in-the-woods chiller and can survive a rough start. Pass if you need a fast opening.

The thing that stuck with me from Perspectives on Sentence Processing is how much it made me rethink my own routines. Charles Clifton Jr. doesn't preach, just lays out the evidence and lets you squirm a little. It runs long in the last third. Great for readers who like self-reflection with their reading, skip if you want pure escape.
