Richard Wagner and German Opera

Rate this book
Still controversial more than a century after his death, Richard Wagner combined a proclivity for radical theories with an overwhelming genius for musical drama. This combination made him the dominant figure in 19th century German opera.

Examines the chaotic life of nineteenth-century composer Richard Wagner, discussing his influence on the art of opera, his affairs and fiscal irresponsibility, belief in German superiority, and his anti-Semitism.

This attractively illustrated book would be good for junior high or high school level persons interested in Wagner, opera, etc. I have not read the book.
