Pictorial Maps: "History, Design, Ideas, Sources"

Rate this book
Allow neither preconceptions of puerile pictorial maps (though some such are included), nor the amateurish dust jacket to put you off. Holmes (graphics director, Time ) has assembled lovely and pedagogic examples together with explication of map projections, topographic conventions, and high tech cartography. Many examples are too small for study; it would have been better to have presented detail views of larger maps. Has myriad ideas for the graphic artist resembling, thus, the Tufte books.
