Good Kindergarten-First Grade reading level nonfiction. Beautiful photographs and somewhat educational. The series is called Seedlings. Not all of these books are great, a couple of the dog breed ones are frustrating for children because of the dog breed names which are difficult to 'sound out. '

Nonfiction: "Lions"

I think this is a good book for small children. These are animals that most of us don't see in the wild because they inhabit few countries. This gives students a great chance to learn about different characteristics of lions. I like that the book gives the reader's information on lion's growth throughout their life period. Children at this age are starting to understand that organisms usually start off small and get bigger.

Twin Text: "Lions: Fun Picture Book

This book will reinforce what the children have learned about lions. They will see different color manes. Readers will also get a good look at the diversity that exists amongst lion prides.

Gorgeous photos, though the one of the lion eating the zebra made my preschooler sad. though the picture shows no blood, it may be upsetting for little ones. Great basic info about lions.
