Part of the Cambridge Reading scheme for key stage 2/P4-7, Spindle River is set in New Lanark in 1819. Christina Sinclair has travelled from the north of Scotland with her children to seek employment in the cotton mills. The story follows the children's triumphs and disasters as they struggle to settle to their new life.
Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme which provides stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading and the development of literacy throughout the primary years.
