Another really good book in this series. This one is less a booklet (which it is) and more of a Bible study. A four week Bible study about the attributes of God. I really liked the structure and design of this. The charts and layout really gel with my way of thinking and my brain. Very good!

This book was a good accomplice for personally applying the attributes of God to my own walk, while preaching a sermon series on the subject to my congregation. Here and there it led to some sharp points of sermon application. But mostly, it provided me with a deeper sense of conviction that God's essential nature must be proclaimed and believed.

This book is referred to as a "devotional study", which is an accurate description. It's designed to take you through God's attributes in 4 weeks, focusing on a different category each week: love, essence, wisdom and power. Each day is structured in the same way: (1) introductory remarks on an attribute; (2) scriptural references; (3) first diagnostic question: "Do I take pleasure, comfort, and security in this attribute?"; (4) second diagnostic question: "Do I increasingly resemble this attribute?" (p10-11)

These 4 steps aren't simply a way of structuring the devotion, but are intended to function in a cyclical fashion, moving from God, to life, back to God. In this way, your doctrine of God is better informed and your life is further transformed.

This is important because the table on p7 demonstrates how, on a functional level, we actually develop our theology. We "inhale" life events (tragic, mundane and euphoric), then we process them subconsciously, and when we "exhale" we come out the other side with certain theological conclusions (core beliefs) about life. Engaging in this exercise revealed how the major events of my life had become the building blocks of my unspoken theology. I found it painful, but profoundly helpful.

This is the kind of book which, when engaged with correctly, demands far more time reflecting than reading. It is short but it should take a long time to "read" for it to have its intended effect.

This may be my favorite volume in "The Gospel for Real Life Series." The truth here is foundational to any pursuit of change, repentance, faith, growth, discipleship, or learning. Hambrick has presented basic truths about God's character and called his reader to rest in these truths first, then to emulate these truths in real life. A great, little booklet!

Succinct yet abundant

Worth reading, re-reading, and repeatedly studying through, meditating upon, and putting into practice. This book takes into account the character and nature of God, His attributes, and in what ways we are to respond and emulate His character.

Penetrating and Pragmatic

A very easy to read, well organized and insightful analysis of Biblical themes and divine realities. Worthwhile for anyone seeking to get closer to G-d.
