Meet Hannah - a young girl with selective mutism (SM). Hannah invites readers to learn about selective mutism from her perspective, helping them to understand what it is, what it feels like to have SM, and how they can help. This illustrated book is packed with accessible information and will be an ideal introduction to selective mutism. It shows family, friends and teachers how they can support a child with the condition and is also good place to start when encouraging children with SM to talk about how it affects them.
This book is very good for helping people who have friends, family or students with selective mutism. It is also very accurate at explaining how it feels if you have had the condition yourself especially for me as I was somebody who had it myself as a young child. It’s got lots of effective strategies for making school easier as a way to help those who have struggled communicating with one another including both teachers and students.
This little book helped me understand about Selective Mutism. Basic and straightforward information plus lots of suggestions for ways to help a young person with SM.
This book is very good for parents who are trying to help their kid at school. My mum got me this book when I was in primary, but I never read it until a few months ago. It honestly made me cry, I don't have many of those struggles now but reading it, I could just just relate to almost everything. The best thing about the book was that the characters best friend "Maya" is the name of my best friend too! <3
As a parent of a young child with SM I was keen to get good resources on the condition and what we can do about it. I've just read the book in one sitting and found a lot that resonates with our experiences, and some good tips on what we can do. I will be recommending this to family, friends, and my daughter's school.
