The guidelines contained herein are not gospel. All writers eventually develop their own individual styles to best communicate their vision to their readers. And no studio is going to reject a great screenplay just because a writer violates one or two of these conventions. But, together, these rules represent the style all industry readers - from the lowest story analyst to the studio mogul - have come to expect. And you can’t go wrong by fulfilling their expectations. In other words, break these rules if you so desire, but do so at your risk.
