About the author

Winner of an NAACP Image Award for Best Literary Work and a two-time Image Award nominee, author Jeff Burlingame has written more than thirty books and is the recipient of a prestigious Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

He has presented at the Washington state capitol and has been featured on A&E, MTV, and elsewhere. He and his family reside in the Pacific Northwest.

The book Prisons by Jeff Burlingame talks about how prisons have evolved over time. He talks about the ideas and the history of American prisons. The prisons used to be very brutal. The United States went through many different prison techniques to try and find the best one. It went from prisons being horrible and people only getting one meal a day to prisons being ok and people getting 3 meals a day. People would have to side in a downstair layer with chains attached to the wall and their arms. In today's prisons, people get no respect. Also, people are getting a lot more jail time for lesser times than they were earlier on for bigger crimes.
I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars because it was interesting to see how our countries treatment in prisons have changed over time but it is mostly all facts and not any humorous things in it. I would suggest this book to a person that likes learning facts about United States history.

In Prisons by Jeff Burlingame, he talks and explains many different ideas and the history of American prisons.There is a lot of different things he explains in it, going from the history of prisons to cases today and the amount of time you get.It gives a lot of different facts about our prisons today and how they get treated.In today's prisons, prisoners get treated with little to no respect.Also today's court system is not good because there is people getting more time for lesser crimes.
I would recommend this book to people that are interested in our prisons.This gives us a factual look at how different our prisons are from back then.If you just are a curious person and want to learn something , I would recommend this book because you can learn a lot.This book can help you to see if maybe you wanted to go in a career field that deals with jails and prisons like a judge or a warden.
