To pair the non-fiction text, Ladybug, to a fictional book, I had no trouble. The fictional book that I chose to pair with the non-fiction text is Ladybug Girl written by David Soman and Jacky Davis. Ladybug Girl is about a girl named Lulu who is dressed like a ladybug. Her costume is red with black polka dots. In this book, it is implied that Lulu loves the insect ladybug. Ladybug Girl tells random facts about ladybugs to her family and friends throughout the book. Ladybug Girl, in a sense, is like a super hero. She believes that she can do anything because she is Ladybug Girl!
From the book, Ladybug Girl, one student may become very interested in learning about ladybugs. That is where the non-fiction book comes into play. Ladybugs is a book that allows students to gain knowledge about Ladybugs. It provides beautiful illustration and interesting facts. The book Ladybugs contains information about how ladybugs live, how they survive and their threats, as well as what ladybugs eat. This information could also be valuable when reading the book, Ladybug Girl. It would provide them with the necessary background information about a ladybug. The nonfictional book Ladybugs, would be a great book to read alongside Ladybug Girl.
