This comic is difficult to rate and review.

I read the series originally in 2019 when chapters were being published on a comic app called Wetoon. I got 2/3 of the way through until I got a new phone and forgot to download the app again. For those chapters I would rate 4 stars, that said I really enjoyed the first 15 episodes, which are collected in this volume, so I'm rating 5 stars. I love the sick & comfort trope!

What makes this hard to rate is the quality of the physical publication of this book. It's disappointing and frankly not good.

The comics on Webtoon are designed to be read with infinite scrolling. (So you read by always scrolling down, there are no "pages". Panels and their placement are designed to be displayed on a vertical phone screen). To rework this format, the panels need to be remaped to display on pages. While reading the comic in print form it is apparent that some page spreads didn't translate the infinite scrolling style panels well. The panels are oddly spaced out - some pages are too crowded while other pages feel like they have too much dead soace between panels. I just don't think the layout of the panels were done well enough to publish in a book style. I understand that the artist didn't have time to retro fit and redesign her entire comic, but whoever was in charge of adapting it into book format, didn't do the story justice. Still, there are sections that look pretty and well done. But that brings me to my next point -

- there are a couple horizontal panels included. Which I thought was an odd choice, because the original panels were horizontal because of the vertical nature of the phone screen. Prominent story beats that wanted a highlight a moment would be vertical so the viewer could turn their phone to see the panel in traditional landscape orientation.

I would have thought that once they put those vertical panels into a book they would flip it to be horizontal because they aren't restrained by the size and orientation of the phone. Although to be fair, the panels I'm thinking about from this volume, were from when one of the characters was feeling sick, so perhaps likely, just wanted to show that he wasn't feeling well. So, I'm very interested to see how they treat those vertical panels in the future.

And sadly the biggest problem I have is the image quality. Again, because this was published or reading on a phone, I'm not sure what resolution the panels were saved in, but when reading the physical copy you can tell that many of the panels are being enlarged for the book. These panels look fuzzy and do not have crisp edges. Some panels handled being blown up better than others, so it's not a problem throughout the entire volumes, but some panels are worse off than others.

In conclusion, I just don't think that it's worth it to buy this book. I really like the story and it is a fun read, but I recommend reading it on a Webtoon. You can read it for free (It'll take you 160 days since you can only read a chapter a day, but if you wanted to drop money on it to binge the entire thing, it would cost $10 to unlock. Or is this one volume which is, what $20? And only has the first 15 episodes out of 160.

I was so excited for this to be published, and I'm happy that collectors can own a physical copy if they so desire, but I do wish it was worth the money.

Age Matters was a pretty cute graphic novel. It definitely took me a bit to get into it. I was confused for quite a few pages and felt like it was jumping all over a bit. I didn't know what was going on. But give it a bit and you will fall into the story!

I enjoyed the graphics. There's some minor tension building I liked. I thought the hero was definitely a jerk - and while I can be okay with that, I prefer other types of jerkiness than talking down to her like a servant and making her carry all his bags. I know we'll see a change over the course of the story.

I am not sure if I read it in the wrong format, but the water coloring over every single page did make it extremely hard to impossible to even read some scenes so that was frustrating. This won't be an issue in the final product, and I do understand pirating problems, but it just took me out of the story quite a bit especially because it was every page. (I was able to read an advanced copy on NetGalley)

Overall I would try more from this one! 3.5 rounded up.

I finished this book for the sake of completion. I feel ever so slightly guilty for not loving it, but I just can't. This writing is so flat and uninteresting, it was putting me to sleep every time I read. I don't want to be too critical since A) this is Enjelicious' first graphic novel, so they may grown since publishing this and it may not reflect them as an author now and B) It's from Webtoon, and this is by no means trying to hate on Webtoon novels, but it is extremely hit or miss. And unfortunately this a complete miss for me. The art isn't intriguing, nor does it stand out in any way. Obviously this is made to replicate a manga, however it feels, looks and reads like a copy and paste. From the repetition of facial expressions to even the overdone intro and writing style, there's just nothing that makes this graphic special or enjoyable to read. I gave it two stars for the sake of the trope, because in hindsight it's an extremely cute and creative idea, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately I know that I won't be continuing the series from this point, but i honestly don't think it's worth trying to find out if it gets any better from here.

Age Matters by Enjelicious will be released on January 30, 2024. Wattpad Webtoon Book Group provided an early galley for review.

I was not familiar with this fourteen-part webtoon from 2018 or this creator (who has done several romance-themed web comics like this one) previously. The colors and the cover image really caught my eye and drew me in.

This comes across as a standard manga, with the art style shifting from panel to panel depending upon what is needed. The story is straightforward and follows several traditional romance tropes. It does take awhile to unfold with the volume ending on a cliffhanger note. Fans of the format and the genre will certainly enjoy it.

So, I love an unconventional love story!

In this first volume, we’re introduced to a terminally single, nearly 30-year-old Rose who is trying to come to terms with her aging as well as trying to find a steady job. Enter Daniel Yoon—a 23-year-old hotshot, social media billionaire mogul—in need of a secretary. When the two meet, it’s not exactly a perfect match by any stretch—but, somehow, the two seem to work.

This story starts off a little odd and disjointed—but, it does get to the central relationship rather quickly. We get a lot of banter and interaction between the two in this first volume. There’s a coherent plot, too—which, is notable for the genre.

More, I appreciate how this series revolves around an unconventional relationship for the genre. Older woman/younger male pairings are rare. So, it’s just nice to see something different.

Anyway, definitely recommend for romance readers, particularly those looking for a series with an unconventional pairing~

Thank you so much to Netgalley for a free copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review!

I really loved this graphic novel and one of my favorites when it first came out on webtoons. I am so glad that more people are able to read this!

I love age gap romance novels and this also has an office romance vibe to it and not to mention it started off with the characters having a quite a misunderstanding and being "enemies"

This is such a cute read! i hope people enjoy it as much as I did!

Looking forward for more reads!

I did not vibe with this one. I didn’t like how much she harped on how old she was. Like being sad about it is normal but it’s her whole personality. Every other sentence was about how she’s 30 and not successful. Also, I really didn’t want to read a story about Mark Zuckerberg. I finished the first volume but I will not be continuing.

I remember reading this one as it was publishing episode by episode on WEBTOON and loving it! I was so happy to see it’s being officially published! It’s been a little while so it was like reading it for the first time, and I got to fall in love with the story all over again. The story does jump around a bit but if you pay attention to the color of the bubbles you’ll follow it pretty well. I love the grumpy/sunshine of these two (it’s one of my favorite tropes) and how Rose is trying to get him to lighten up. He’s not bad guy—- a lot of Daniel’s “rudeness” comes from being used for his billionaire status and from my perspective, not being able to socialize properly because of it since he became a tech mogul at such a young age. In this, he’s 23, but Lime is celebrating its 4th anniversary. So really he was just a kid when it all began. Rose is a few years older than him, but also trying to find her way in the world still and I think these two will be good for each other.
I can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the arc!

I picked this up because I've been enjoying Enjelicious' current webtoon - Hello Baby. This one's a little clunky but that's not unexpected for the start of a series. I like the leads' chemistry, though, and will read the next volume.

DNF. I couldn’t get into this—the premise was too random and forced. The characters barely interacted too. It just bothered me. This likely should’ve stayed a webtoon.

Adore, perooooo.

Dylan me duelesssssss.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Age Matters for review from NetGalley.

I don't really have strong feelings about this book one way or another. I think I liked the premise more than the execution. Our main character, Rose, is mildly annoying, and so is her (future) love interest, Daniel, but not in an unforgivable way. I often didn't understand the reactions either of them had to the situations they were in, but in that regard, I feel I am just the wrong audience for this book.

I was expecting more romance out of a book whose summary includes the plot point of them falling for each other. This isn't an enemies-to-lovers story, because they're not enemies, but they certainly don't like each other, and I feel like the story doesn't give me a good enough reason for why these people who don't like each other keep spending time together. They both could just... not be around each other any more, and I feel like the only reason they're still spending time together is so they can have that romance later, not for any in-story reason.

Now for my issues on the technical side of the book. This is a webtoon-turned-graphic-novel (and I love that, truly), but it seems like a lot of the end-of-chapter things that would make sense in a format of a webtoon, where new chapters are coming out weekly, don't make sense in a continuously read story without chapter breaks. It's like watching episodes of a show back to back, where the end of the previous episode is played at the beginning of the next episode to catch you, the audience, up to speed. Only. There were not any of those breaks, so I'd periodically just see the same scene play out twice back-to-back. There were also several word bubbles that were pointing to the person who wasn't talking, or word bubbles that repeated the dialogue of the same bubble next to it. None of these things are deal-breakers at all, and they didn't take away from the plot of the story, but they were a smidge annoying to deal with.

Age Matters by Enjelicious is a popular Webtoon that is being released physically on 01/30.

29-year-old Rose Choi is trying to pick up her life after her ex-boyfriend cheated on and then dumped her. In need of employment, she takes over her best friend's odd job to cook and deliver meals to a mysterious boss. This boss turns out to be the 23-year-old CEO of Lime, Daniel Yoon. But in this first volume, it seems she still hasn't figured out that Daniel is a rich CEO yet. So this makes Rose a great candidate to replace his secretary, who we are told is a woman who "betrayed" him. While he finds her desperate and annoying, she is multi-talented at cooking, cleaning, and helping with his reports. So, by the end of this volume, he is offering her the job.
Rose finds Daniel to be an abrasive workaholic who is afraid of everything. She doesn't understand why he lives the way he does, isolating himself and working so much. She feels much older and wiser than him, and she wants to help.
Eventually, they begin to get along with each other more, and you can see a very funny friendship growing. I can tell they will fall for each other. It is just going to be a very slow burn.
I really like the art. The characters are so expressive and make lots of funny faces. I think the dynamic between the MCs makes me want to come back, and she where this relationship goes. They both really offer the other something they need emotionally, and I can't wait to see some growth.
The story feels a little disjointed in the beginning, making it a little confusing. It probably worked better as an episodic release and just needs a little clean-up to be published in a book. Just stick with it, and once the main characters start interacting, you're hooked.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A huge thank you to @netgalley and @wattpadbooks for the ARC.

Age Matters is a really cute WebToon/Graphic Novel. It feels like one I’d read when I need something that doesn’t make me think about intricate plots. It took the perfect amount of thought on a lazy rainy day off from work.

We follow along with Rose Choi as she plows through life as an almost… thirty year old!? Shhhhhh!!!! Don’t say it too loud! It’s almost like her ancient age when spoken about will make her crumble and dissolve into dust that’ll float away on the wind. All jokes aside, she does act like she’s old, mainly because she has no career or love interest (her boyfriend broke up with her over text).

Her best friend offers to allow her to move in and then promptly disappears on vacation with her boyfriend. In turn, she leaves Rose with her work, which is cooking and cleaning for a mysterious man. He pays for the apartment she lives in and the one next door. When it’s time for her to bring food or clean, he doesn’t allow her to see him. Which, of course, leads her to think that he’s in the mafia.

Daniel Yoon is one of the richest men in the world. At only 23 years of age, he created the incredibly popular dating app, Mine. With his overnight success came celebrity status and in turn, people came out of the woodwork looking for ways to use him. He’s lost all trust in people after being backstabbed by his last secretary.

Volume 1 really focuses on how the two of them meet and build a connection as boss and subordinate. I can see how there could be a love connection later on in the series, but I kind of hope this is just a friendship. He really needs friends that he can trust, because his existence is kinda lonely as of right now.

Volume 2 is out soon, so I’ll be reading it ASAP so that I can find out what happens next.

Thank you to NetGalley, Webtoon, and Enjelicious for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

I enjoyed Age Matters Volume One. The art was well-done (if not particularly original), clear and not overly "pretty". I really liked the plot line. It is clear that some thawing between the characters is beginning, but there's no quick jump to infatuation: instead, Rose and Daniel have a slow-burn friendship growing. I also appreciated that Rose's competency at the business-related tasks is appreciated just as much as her cooking skills. (I could have done without the inclusion - and personification! - of the cockroach, but, whatever.) I'm guessing that the story will end up with some sort of relationship between Rose and Daniel but tbh I would be OK with a solid friendship - which it seems like both of them really need - if a romance doesn't work out.

I didn't particularly understand the role of Andrew - assistant? coworker? - and I wasn't real clear on why, if Yura is such a good friend, she thought it would be cool to get Rose drunk and have her sign an employment contract covering for Yura's several-months-long vacation. #Plotdevice I guess. But what really was irritating was the voluminous watermarking over every page, every cell. I can understand Webtoon's desire to prevent piracy but it made reading the book VERY difficult. I had to zoom in all the way frequently to be able to decipher the words through the watermarking obfuscating them.

Nonetheless this was fun and I would certainly be happy to read Volume Two whenever it's available. Maybe Rose will finally catch the bug. lol

3.5⭐️

Objectively, it's a solid 3 (not as good as aI remembered it to be). However, all these WEBTOONS and books I read ages ago feel like home, and I can't ignore my heart.

Things I realized this time around:
1. Daniel is the epitome of emotional un-intelligence (not in a toxic way, must I clarify). He just never knows how to deal with any emotion, and that makes him very immature. I understand that's meant to remind you of their age gap and all you want, but he's 23, not 15, c'mon.
2. Rose is too dense on purpose; she is very smart but wants to be oblivious to avoid more worries.
3. Dylan is the best character, and -as it always happens with the side characters-, he never gets what he deserves (I love him so much, bro. I wanna hold him).
4. This story is not as full of drama as it felt when I first read it. It's actually pretty chill, perfect for when you want a light read.

Additionally, I want to say that I did not like the way the season ended; not the things that happened, I mean specifically the last scene. I don't like that nothing was concluded within that first season, not even their relationship was well established by the end of this season (which is the main point of the story).

Rose Choi finds herself in a predicament as she approaches her 30th birthday. Recently single after a messy relationship ends, no career path, and no kids, she finds herself struggling to get back on her feet. An opportunity opens up for her when her friend needs Rose to fill in for her job as housekeeper for a mysterious boss. The young CEO Mr. Yoon only communicates via walkie-talkie, but the job includes an apartment and stipend and Rose finds herself taking over as a chef and maid for her faceless boss.

The two suddenly find themselves intertwined, between the light banter and two lost personalities, they quickly realize they may trust each other more as they spend time together. What happens when Rose is offered a full-time job? Can they make their differences work?

I enjoyed the enemies to friends that this first volume depicted. It left me wanting to know more about Mr. Yoon and Roses' relationship. Where will they end up? How will they grow as characters? I'll definitely read the next installment. Art was your classic webtoon style, adding to the comedic effect. Perfect for Kdrama lovers. 4/5 stars.
