Written by Nicole Maines, C.S. Pacat, Frank Barbiere, and Leah Williams. Art by Skylar Patridge, Scott Godlewski, Sami Basri, and Marguerite Sauvage. With the world in chaos and Lazarus raining from the skies, the Earth's protectors from Krypton are hit hard. In this collection of epic vignettes from in and around Lazarus Planet, we'll see heroes transformed, secrets revealed, and power unleashed. Can Power Girl free herself from the out-of-control Omen? Will Dreamer's visions guide our heroes to the path of victory? Can Mercy Graves survive the transformation she's undergone? And will Jonathan Kent ever be the same again?
Goddamn I am so disappointed. What is this random short story crap? Where is my continuous story? I'm so bummed.
I've been so keen for this Lazarus Planet arc and this offering is just a waste. The first story was so promising but then it just ended?! And we got random little adventures that were predictable and pointless. I'm honestly so disappointed.
This single issue has honestly got me thinking twice about jumping on this one. Why will nothing ever live up to the brilliance of DCeased? This could have been so good. I'm so mad right now.
So, how bad was this collection of short stories? Well one, I felt I had to comment on a single issue one shot comic book. Two despite the title and a mention in the intro block of text, there is nothing about the Planet Krypton in the entire book. So minus a million stars rating. Actually, not every story in here is bad. But there is nothing really connected to the main Lazarus Planet event storyline. The John Kent Superman and Hot Blond bad boy with lava powers was good (did it qualify as a date?).
That was a whole lot of nothing. To me. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood for comics because most of these have just felt like not much happened today. But like everything felt like very 'tie in' and not very much like 'story' or plot or progress or anything at all really.
I'm pretty new to Superman, so I really have almost nothing to compare this to. I wasn't expecting it to be a bunch of short stories that seem to just be starting points of new books/lines/stories/what have you, but I found them all interesting enough to keep reading. I was surprised that I was interested in this Jon Kent (not even sure who he is, that's how new I am to Superman) and this new character Ash that he's dealing with. I also liked the Mercy Graves story as well. Never heard of her before, but I thought that story was cool, and I got the Nathan Szerdy variant cover with her, which I thought was awesome.
I have no idea how to gage this book. Each story was interesting in it own right but as a whole did very little to advance a confusing story. As well why give Power Girl a new power? What’s going on there?
I loved the parts with Nia Nal/Dreamer, and I am so excited to see her storyline develop. I don’t really read comics, so I found the changing storylines confusing, but I also lack a lot of the fundamental knowledge of those others characters.
4 short stories. The Dreamer story was good. But too short! The Superman story was trash. Such a waste to introduce the new power of a flagship hero like this. And please no need to present every young male character as a possible love interest. The other 2 stories I forgot already.
The first story was pretty good and was developing the Lazarus story. Imagine my surprise when it abruptly ended with 70% of the book left. The remainder was pretty disappointing.
