About the author

Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

The editorial article style allowed Tozer's points to be made succinctly and eloquently. Lots of gold in there, and still applicable for today's audience. Had my highlighter out.

I have owned this book for several years, and have given away two copies. As an assortment of Tozer's work it is excellent in its range, depth, and focus. It has perfect brevity for light reading, but 3 pages of Tozer is never light in content.
I'd recommend this as a devotional to walk through once a year. It is a book I return to it often for that exact purpose.

A.W. Tozer is one of my all time favorite authors, but beware! His words will cut you to the quick. This title is one of 9 volumes that preserve his editorial articles compiled over a 14 year period. The chapters are succinct, the language is dazzling, the observations of the author astute and ahead-of-their-time. He sees the weaknesses in the American church and both diagnoses the problems and offers insight as to the remedies. My favorite chapter in this volume is the one entitled, "God's Best Gift."
