Out of the Earth #2

Out of the Sky

Rate this book
Book 2 in a military sci-fi series set in a monster-filled apocalypse from Amazon bestseller Jake Bible. It's perfect for fans of Nicholas Sansbury Smith's Hell Divers series, T. W. Piperbrook, and the Pacific Rim series.

Federal Marshal Lu Morgan and her ragtag group of survivors and government agents fought hard to stay alive and defeat the massive monsters, but now a second eruption has sent even more deadly creatures flying up into the ash-cloud that covers the land.

The US government, the survivors of the eruption, and a team of scientists must fight a new evil that falls from the sky and turns animals, and people, into grotesque creatures bent on killing every living thing in their path.

It is a race against time, and a race for survival, as all involved struggle to find answers as to where the monsters came from and how to stop them.

If stopping them is even possible.

Well

Things get worse in this book, in good and bad ways. They get worse for the survivors of book one (it's cool that this book flow directly from that), and also gets worse for the reader - hence the three star rating.

The story is still solid, has plenty of action, gruesome deaths, extremely brutal realistic tragedies and an even greater sense of hopelessness. There's plenty of mystery left and a few questions vaguely answered, albeit with the annoying characters that are in the know, being quite cryptic.

The book loses stars because of the incessant and downright unnecessary blasphemic use of the Lord's name, seemingly every second sentence someone is using it as a curse word. The irony of the author's surname being 'Bible' isn't lost on me. Then there is a woman's revelation on her take on what the Bible says (when she speaks to Linda) - total contrary to what the Bible does actually say. I suppose this is a work of fiction and the characters (if not, the author) are allowed to live in fantasy worlds.

The continual use of the Lord's name as a curse is exceptionally grating and it is the single largest negative about this story thus far, I don't suppose it will change in the remaining books. Unnecessary, and spoils an otherwise quite solid morbid book.

A strong second book with even stronger monsters.

So the world is truly fucked now, monsters and flying ones only make the world even harder to live and battle the creatures. But, that's not all because goo monsters also want to eat and turn you into jelly.

For a short giant monster book, I'm really enjoying it as it's easy, nice amount of action and I've enjoyed the shake-up of the monsters.

I will say I'm less enjoying some of the female characters as the story goes, very much "I'm a strong independent woman so do what I say and don't think I can't do it anything you can do" attitude at times. The world is ending, get that stick out of your arse.

Science fiction ?

I have truly enjoyed the first two novels in this series. The imagination and creativity are awe inspiring. The science is enough to give one nightmares if even knowing this is fiction st its best. I can't wait to read the next installment of this series. I did find it difficult st first to keep up with the various characters as there were several arenas to follow as the plot unfolded but it all comes together as story unfolds.

Excellent series

Unique plot, interesting characters, and enough twists and turns to make the pickiest reader happy. Plenty of action in a very good paced book.Even though the book has several different groups of characters the transitions from one group to another are accomplished very smoothly. I definitely recommend this series.

story felt tilted to move forward

It was different from the first book has it was giant monster featured survival lay this was more day of Ozzie-type monsters. It wasn’t really a get you ento it has the story just felt to conspiracies layers of plot to get threw that it wasn’t any fun it was to mugh think and rageness for impossible of secrets to be kept that long.

Edge of your seat thriller.

Have loved the series so far, it's very hard to put down. There is a combination of different characters each following their own adventures, interconnected to the story as a whole.

I had to stop…

The first book in the series was entertaining. This book felt like a wanna be Godzilla story but with a ton of non-essential dialogue and a multitude of random creatures without explanation.

Good read

I got confused cause it should have been the first book. Didn't go into much detail on specifics of the events. I think I will take a break and read something different then come back to this. Probst was really annoying with her questions so was Hall...

Amazing series

Bible has went all out on this as we learn just how scary everything can get , and how nature if you can call it that rights back.
The characters are engaging and the action barely stops so a great read for me.
