I originally learned Latin from this well established reading course. I have also taught from this book series for two years and tutored those who have used it. It is a decent series that has a bit more grammatical information and a more typical sequence of grammatical topics than Cambridge. Basically one's taste for the series will depend on one's thoughts about the "reading method" of instruction. Warning - the Cornelius family does spend a lot of time stuck in a ditch.

fun little stories split up into manageable paragraphs slowly but steadily tutor the reader in the rock star of all dead languages. fun illustrations kept me and my colored pencils occupied when, say, parsing would not.
