General shelf and handling wear, including tanning to DJ, notable to spine, and front at spine point. Creasing to DJ head, a couple of small closed tears at fold points, small open tear at front head. DJ colour nice and bright, with pageblock head dyed a complementary hue. Grey cloth boards have gilt signature to front leading edge, gilt detail to spine; light wear only. Within, minor tanning at pastedowns and endpapers, a couple of dog-eared corners at foot, otherwise content is tightly bound and unmarked. CN
Augustus Montague Summers was an Anglican priest and later convert to Roman Catholicism known primarily for his scholarly work on the English drama of the 17th century, as well as for his studies on witches, vampires, and werewolves, in all of which he professed to believe. He was responsible for the first English translation, published in 1928, of the notorious 15th-century witch hunter's manual, the Malleus Maleficarum.
