Gives a history of the public libraries in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and describes the steps and work done to design and build the new Central Library in the city over the period from 2000 to 2006.
Jennifer Vogel worked as a writer and reporter in Minneapolis for seven years before moving to Seattle, where she was editor in chief of The Stranger. She moved back to Minneapolis in 2003.
This is an overview of the planning and construction of the new, at the time of publication, Central Library in Minneapolis. It has some good pictures and interesting interviews with people involved. However, this book is rather dated now as it refers to a planetarium that "will not open until at least 2009," which I know never materialized due to lack of funds. It also talks about Minneapolis Public Library in the present tense. MPL merged with the Hennepin County Library in 2008, shortly after this library was completed. Overall, a fun look at the building of the library, but not great for up to date information.
This book describes the planning and construction of Minneapolis' New Central Library. Good reference for kids who are interested in architecture or urban planning.
A thorough, engaging exploration of the building of the then-new Central Library in Minneapolis, and all the aspects and elements of it sure to inspire young readers to explore them further.
