Title: Tiny Bear's Bible.

Author: Sally Lloyd-Jones.

Illustrator: Igor Oleynikov.

Genre: Christian, Nonfiction, Children's, Bible, Colorful.

Plot: Having greatly enjoyed the Little Bunny's Bible previously, I decided to get the Tiny Bear's Bible and save it for my future son. I love the extremely soft fur of the cute brown bear, though one of his ears has a hole in it. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that there are different Bible stories in this one, compared to the Bunny Bible. Included are the Story of Creation, the rainbow after the flood, the story of Moses being rescued by Pharaoh's daughter, David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lions' Den, the Birth of Christ, Jesus saving the disciples from the storm at sea {the chapter title for that one is pretty cute: Jesus Stops a Scary Storm}, the Lord's prayer, Zacchaeus, the original Easter story, and God's promise that He is with us always. Each story has a lovely set of verses telling the story to a child, followed by a special little message just for the baby. The baby is called Tiny Bear throughout the book.

The artwork is breathtaking! The beautiful pictures sprawl across the pages, with a wonderful blend of detail and simplicity that keeps you coming back for more. There are also a lot of unusual animals in the pictures; there's a walrus, an ant-eater, a leopard and flamingos all on the first page! I really like having the option of teaching my children about other animals besides the standard puppies, kittens and bunnies.

Likes/Dislikes: After opening the package, I presented my thirteen month old daughter with the book to get her opinion on it. She spent a good several minutes staring happily at the cover and stroking the bear's face before opening the book all by herself and squealing in excitement over the beautiful pink first page that contained the creation story. It took two attempts to read her the whole book, but she had fun pointing out the lions {"Look, there's Leo, your lion, What's he doing there?"}, and she pointed out Baby Jesus, squealed and then shut the book on my fingers. Apparently her favorite page is the last one with all the flowers and children standing around Jesus. I recommend this for slightly older children with longer attention spans than mine since it takes a bit longer to read the whole story on each page when they just want to turn the next page or go crawl around some more.

Rating: G - all ages, but mainly nine months and up. Highly recommended!

This little Bible adds a whole new meaning to the phrase “taking a book to bed.” You not only want to take this book to bed, you want to snuggle with it all night long. The cover is fluffy and soft, and your kids will fall in love with it even before they read it, maybe even before they drool on it or eat it. This is also one of the first children’s Bible’s I’ve seen that is actually appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers. The text on each page is minimal, and is limited to short poems riffing on each story rather than to futile attempts to retell the stories better than the original authors. Sometimes the rhyme is forced or jilted, but by and large it works. Most importantly, the book is short enough to read easily in one sitting without testing young attention spans. I particularly like Sally Lloyd-Jones’ way of presenting the Bible because the poems won’t make sense unless the child knows the story already, so it forces you to talk about the stories with the child yourself instead of letting the book do the talking for you. Tiny Bear appears on each page, but doesn’t try to enter into the story. He does his own thing; Tiny Bear playing with a toy boat is juxtaposed with Noah on the ark, Tiny Bear reaches for a doll on a high shelf as Goliath comes crashing to the ground, and he sleeps with his pussy cat while learning about Daniel spending the night with lions. Tiny Bear enters into conversation with the narrator, and at the end of each poem he is told “Yes, Tiny Bear, God made us too!” or “And God keeps us safe – yes, He does, Tiny Bear: Wherever we go, He will always be there.”

Igor Oleynikov’s illustrations bring the book to life. There is dynamism in almost every picture, giving the impression that things are happening in the Bible – this isn’t a frozen world of placid characters with no personalities. Baby Moses reaches out of his bed of reeds to play with a baby bird, and Daniel tickles a lion under his chin while the angel is protecting him. Interloping animals add interest to the stories, such as three birds who sit with the crowd listening to the sermon on the Mount or the fox who watches the risen Jesus greet Mary outside His tomb. Most of Oleynikov’s characters look Middle Eastern, although his Jesus consistently comes out as a white man, which is annoying to say the least. The fact that the book comes in boys and girls versions (blue and pink respectively) is equally cringe worthy, and detracts from the otherwise wonderful messages that it sends to young children.

My Review:

Such a sweet gift to give this Easter, in the form of a small fuzzy book. So sweet and so perfect for a toddler or preschooler. It also comes in blue for boys or pink for girls. It is a board book covered in soft furry fabric. It is sure to delight any child with sheer delight. Each Bible story is quick and to the point. Each one begins with Scripture and is written in very simple words for little ears to understand.

I can just imagine those sweet little babies running around in their pajamas begging to be read to. Not only are there words from Scripture but there are also beautiful illustrations further explaining each story. "A bear to hug, a Bible to love!"

What an adorable idea this child-friendly book is! I cannot imagine any child being able to resist the cute, fuzzy teddy bear face which the cover is comprised of. As an adult, I couldn't help loving the book. The soft furry binding is perfect for very young children, as are the sturdy board pages within.
This Bible story book covers several different accounts from the Bible of God's love and protection, retold by Sally Lloyd-Jones. Characters from the Bible are honored and beautifully presented in illustrations by Moscow resident Igor Oleynikov. There is a bear family featured in most of the illustrations, putting into visual application such lessons as thanking the Lord, prayer, and more.
Children will benefit greatly from the classic and pleasing illustration in this book, and will love toting it around because of its fuzzy binding. They may even want to take their new ''Tiny Bear's Bible'' to bed with them!

Who wouldn’t love a cuddly-soft bear? This little girl bear Bible is sure to delight and become your child’s favorite Bible. The inside is board-book style, making it easy for little hands to turn the pages and easy to wipe off sticky residue from those little fingers. MS Jones keeps the stories Biblically correct, yet in simple easy-to-understand language. The stories are short in length but not in content thus insuring it will hold your child’s attention. The illustrations are adorable and perfectly suited to each story. More importantly it is a perfect way to introduce your little one, at an early age, to the wonderful stories in the Bible.

This would also be a great gift to give for a new baby.

Do you have a go to gift for baby showers? I do! It consists of a basket of needed items like diapers, wipes and lotion and then it always includes a book or two. Tiny Bear's Bible is a great one to include.

The book comes in a boy or girl bear cover so you can customize it for the new little arrival. This little book is one that I wish you could somehow magically reach through the computer screen and feel. The fur is so soft. I can't seem to quit rubbing it. The inside pages are of the board book format so little hands can easily grasp and turn pages without harm.

The eleven stories inside are told in a rhyming style that is classic Sally Lloyd-Jones. When you include the beautiful illustrations from Igor Oleynikov you have a book that is sure to delight not only the child but the adult reading it. This book is destined to be a well-loved item that will introduce your baby to the One that loves him or her the most.

I was provided a book to facilitate my review.

Like "Baby's Hug-A-Bible," this Bible is for the very young. It has five Old Testament and six New Testament stories, all told in rhyming stories addressed to “Tiny Bear.” At times, I thought the beautiful artwork was a little confusing since it pairs up the Bible story on one page with a picture of Tiny Bear on the opposite page. I wish I could get a copy of this Bible without the Tiny Bear pictures. The writing is gorgeous and full of truth, and we found ourselves reciting snippets of verse, especially “God made a promise - so you know that that it’s true – ‘I’ll always, always be with you!’” from the last story, “I am with you always (Mark 10).” This Bible tells more detailed stories than the Hug-A-Bible.

This was a good book for children. This book has several Bible stories that are retold on a young child's level. The pictures are colorful and go perfectly with the stories. I read this to my three children (7, 4 & 4 months) and all three of them sat and listened. The baby loved the feel of it and the older two listened intently to the stories. Great for teaching young ones about God and different stories.
5/5 for young children.

Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of the book (via BookLook). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

This book is TOO, TOO cute!!! It's furry, with a cute bear on the cover.. so what's not to love??

The book pages are hard, which I adore for my son. He is still at the age in which he wants to rip out paper pages, so the hard/cardboard pages work best for us!

The pictures on each and every page are also adorable. My son loves his "first bible" and it makes for quite the cute, cuddly bedtime accessory.

What a delightful little Bible story book for children (6 & Under). The rhyming is pure rhythm and flows so smoothly. Highlighting the good stories from Genesis, Exodus, 1 Samuel, Daniel, Luke, Mark, and Matthew; this soft and fuzzy bear Bible will help you as a parent guide your little one through some important stories to learn for a start. It is a great introduction to the Bible and would make a wonderful bed time or quiet time read. I just love it!

My overall opinion of the book is that I really loved it I read it to my 4 year old and he loves it. He loves to bring the book to bible study and show it off, I love how soft the book is and how well made the book is. I love how the book talks about some of the main topics that are in the bible for example how god created the world. I really love the book and I love the illustrations as well I will continue to read this tiny bear's bible book I love it and so does my 4 year old.

This is such a cute little Bible for young children! This Bible was fun and easy to read. We used this one for one of the foster children that we had in our home and he never sat still for long, except when I handed him this Bible. He was able to follow along with the illustrations and he was excited to read. He always loved soft and cuddly things and he kept asking if he could sleep with it. Of course we said YES! Excellent Bible for the little ones.

It's never too early to start teaching your little one about God's word. Tiny Bear's Bible is the perfect little book to share some of the most popular Bible stories with the children in your life.

The picture I've included does not do this book justice. I was pleasantly surprised when I received it in the mail and seen the great quality of this book. It has a soft fleece cover and a plush teddy bear on the front. It's just as cute as can be! So cuddly and little hands will be sure to enjoy the texture of the fuzzy wuzzy bear! It is a board book so the pages are nice and sturdy and you won't have to worry about little hands bending or tearing the pages. The size is perfect. Not to big and not to small. It is just right!

It comes in a nice plastic case that buttons on the side which is perfect for protecting the book from getting dirty when not in use.

It focuses on eleven Bible stories. As you open the book one page will have the name of the Bible story and scripture references to look up in your Bible if you so wish. On the adjoining page there is a sweet little bible story rhyme that goes along with the story it is focusing on. The pictures are bright and colorful and it is a perfect blend of words and pictures that are sure to keep your little ones attention from start to finish!

This book would be great for moms, dads, grandparents, Sunday school teachers and anyone who likes to read to children. It is sure to be a favorite and one you will want to keep for years to come!

The book I received has blue on the front, but it also comes in pink if you would prefer a more girly color for your little girl! The target age is for 2-5.
