There is no need for a video tape, when Sex, Lies, & unfaithfulness is cast upon your eyes within the Third Street Baptist Church. Come on in and let the hypocrisy commence. "Come as you are..." is the invitation that is given with welcoming arms, while Rev. Coleman digs deep into his spiritual bag every Sunday, oddly enough the Congregation leaves the same way they came; indulging into their sinful ways exploring some of the Seven deadly sins.Greed, Lust, Envy and more. Of course, everything is not always what it seems, and these Sinners' would love to convince you of their Sainthood, with a closer glance you will GET THE TRUTH! Please make your way down to Third ST. this Sunday and grab a seat next to one of our favorite families. After you get the word you cant leave without getting the gossip from sista Patton-Silver. Protesting to be one of the most honest and faithful servants there, her nose is in everyone's Business. She has all the latest news on her son Issac, and daughter-in-law Veronica (the Patton's) as well as the low down on the Coleman's and the Williamson's too. So come on in we look forward to having you as a member of The Congregation. The Place where the truth should set you free!
The aspects of the story were easy to grasp while the flow of the story was a struggle with this reader. The style of writing was very disengaging to the reader and upon further discussion with the author about revision and a new release date, the author only took it under advisement. Although this book is ten years old it could reach more readers if the writing flowed and the errors were fixed.
The word congregate means “to come together in a group, crowd or assembly”. That is generally what we do when we go to church that is why we are called a congregation. But what is underlying in the congregation is what makes us unique and gives that certain bond that makes us more like family than we truly understand.
Mark and Amber Coleman are typical preacher’s kids who fell in love. Mark is the son of the Pastor of Third Baptist Church and Amber is the daughter of the deacon of the church who happens to be his best friend. They grew up together and it is natural that they would fall in love and get married. Just because they show up at church and church functions all smiles and giggles look can be deceiving, after all they do have to play the part they are the son and daughter-in-law of the pastor.
Terrence and Asia are the perfect couple. Terrence is a successful surgeon that looks like a model, clean-cut, six-foot four inches tall, a chiseled two hundred and forty pounds, smooth chocolate-brown color and a perfect set of pearly whites. Asia is a successful bank executive with a perfectly toned body of an athlete that could rival any woman ten years younger than her. They have all of the material possessions that they need, now if their marital relationship was plentiful as their material possessions they would have the world.
Issac and Veronica Patton love each other very much. They can’t get enough of each other and their love is evident to everyone, everyone except Issac’s mother Mrs. Silver-Patton who feels like Veronica isn’t good enough for HER Issac. Will Issac have to choose between the two women in his life who mean the most to him?
The Congregation is a very interesting story about relationships and conflicts but the storyline is inconsistent. At one point you are reading about one set of characters and the very next paragraph you pick up with another set of characters, it was slightly confusing but you eventually came back around to catching up about the previous characters. There is a Congregation Part II coming out, I look forward to seeing what changes are going to be made in this next installment.
“Each couple had their own versions of happiness and each their own set of problems. The one thing that they all had in common was church. Where every Sunday they would meet and became part of a bigger family, the family of the 3rd Street Baptist Church and for a couple hours at least once a week the problems of their respective houses were not a big issue.”
While sitting in the sanctuary, it appeared that the church members had it all together, but outside of the church, the sinners of The Congregation of 3rd Street Baptist Church led some pretty miserable lives. The relationships were interesting, the sex scenes were steamy, and the situations were believable. However, I found it difficult at times to follow the plot due to many inconsistencies and grammar mistakes that took away from the story. But an experienced editor could easily resolve this issue. This is my first time reading Hashim Conner's work, and I look forward to reading more as he develops his craft.
The book, The Congregation by Hashim Conner, focus on three couples Mark & Amber Coleman, Terrence & Asia Williams and Isaac & Veronica Patton. These very different couples share two things in common; marital problems and membership of the 3rd Baptist church of Detroit. There are many sins, secrets and an emotionally charged ending. The writing is professional. The storyline is original. The characters entwine and evolve beautifully. The erotica has class and blends expertly into the story. My favorite character is Rosalyn and her moving testimony. My least favorite character is Mark and his selfishness. The story drags in two separate areas and has very few grammar errors; however, this is a 5 star read all the way!!!! I highly recommend this book!! This is an author worth following. Kudos Author Hashim Conner! Enjoy!!!!
