Angel Island #3

A Wandering Heart

Rate this book
All the stars come out in Angel Island in this charming, inspirational novel from New York Times bestselling authors Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer.

A movie crew arrives to shoot a film in Cape Light, and Angel Island provides a perfect backdrop. Liza's inn welcomes the cast and crew, including the famous actress Charlotte Miller. Charlotte is surprisingly down to earth and is totally charmed by the island, especially the inn, where she chooses to stay instead of at more lavish accommodations. But one day, Charlotte nearly drowns and is saved by local fisherman Colin Doyle. Their attraction is instant and undeniable--even though they come from completely different worlds.

As Charlotte spends more time on the island, the relationship seems meant to be. They keep meeting up, by accident at first, then on purpose. But Colin believes he has little to offer this celebrated beauty. He doesn't realize that Charlotte would give up her glamorous life for him and Angel Island, if only she knew his true feelings. It seems only a miracle could bring them together. Then again, with faith and love on their side, Angel Island is just the sort of place where miracles can happen.

Another great book by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer. I have read all the Cape Light and Angel Island books and loved every one of them. I was very sad to hear of Thomas Kincade's passing. In my opinion he was a great painter and author. I am also very sad to read what the press is doing to him. I wish they would respect him and his family and print things about his great talents and not some possible shortcommings. We all have issues in life and it is nobody's business even if you are well known.

Once again I enjoyed my visit to Angel Island. It was a bittersweet read though, knowing that one of the authors, Thomas Kinkade, passed away recently. He will be missed.

A wandering heart by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer
Story starts when a film crew comes to the island and some of the crew stay at the inn.
It's such a small town where everybody knows everyone and things get hectic. We learn how the other neighbors live and what their concerns are.
Eliza runs the inn, Clire runs the kitchen. Crew have made arrangements for the crew to spend the days there while they film at different locations around town.
Charlotte takes a break sitting on the eocks by the ocean. a huge wave takes her and the current has washed her far from the shore. Colin and his boat rescue her...
She has a lot of secrets from her past and hopes to keep them to herself. She likes Colin as they meet often but she knows she won't be on the island for too much longer-no sense in spending more time with him.
Colin likes her also but he knows she will be leaving very soon-no sense spending time together.
Mriacles happen on the island. Like the story line and how things happen in the order they occur. Bit predictable.
Love the island reminds me of the one we grew up on, so many simlar parts.
Recipes included. About the authors are included at the start of the book. Can't wait to read more of this series.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

This last book written by Thomas Kinkade continued the wonderful tradition of warm characters, wonderful setting, and good storylines that were in all the Cape Light/Angel Island series. I will miss his writing.

I really enjoyed reading "A Wandering Heart". The last book in the Angel Island series.

Liza Martin and Claire North drove to Cape Light to run some errands. When they arrived Main Street was crowded and they had a hard time finding a parking space. Liza and Claire walked to the hardware store and found the door was locked with a note taped to the glass. They noticed a lot of people headed toward the harbor and village green, so they decided to go see what was going on. When the women reached the harbor, a large crowd had gathered, the parking lot was filled with several long white trailers and a few big-box trucks and vans. It was a movie set, with a large crew, big lights on metal tripods, miles of long black cables, and cameras on rolling machinery. It was a romance movie with Charlotte Miller and Nick Dempsey playing the main characters in “A Wandering Heart”. When Liza returned to the Angel Inn she spotted Daniel Merritt’s truck, he was working on one of the window shutters that had come down during the last storm. Daniel and Liza were officially a couple now, though their courtship hit a few bumps along the way. Judy Kramer, a production associate for Winding Hill Films, came by the inn to see about reserving rooms for the cast and crew. Liza was excited to have no vacancy at the inn for several days.
The Gilroy Farm, was run by Audrey and Rob Gilroy, they sold cheese, fudge, skin lotion, and soaps, all made with goat milk. Audrey and Rob also grew lavender and were selling the blooms during the summer. Audrey and Rob had been trying to start a family; they went to Boston to see a fertility doctor. During a rainstorm, Audrey heard a dog barking; she got out of bed and went outside to find the dog. She brought the dog into the screened-in porch; the dog was hungry and thirsty. She gave the dog some chicken and potatoes to eat and some water to drink. She got an old afghan, folded it twice, put it in the corner of the room, away from the doors and windows.
The next day, the dog stole the toast off of Rob’s plate. Audrey decided to take the dog into town with her to see if Walter and Marion, the owners of the General Store, recognized the dog. She also brought flyers she made on her computer to post around town, with the dog’s picture and her phone number. The dog took one of her husband’s boots and chewed the laces. She took the dog to the shelter in Essex to have the dog scanned for a microchip. A veterinary assistance scanned the dog but couldn’t find a microchip. Audrey decided to take the dog home with her.
The next day, the movie cast and crew arrived at the Angel Inn, where they would stay while filming at the beach. Liza was introduced to Charlotte Miller and Nick Dempsey when they arrived at the inn. Meredith, who was Charlotte’s assistance, was in charge of getting anything that Charlotte wanted. When the fog had cleared, Charlotte and Nick headed down to the beach to get started filming their first scene together. After trying to film the scene twice, Charlotte decided she needed a break; she walked down the rock jetty and was knocked into the ocean. She felt like she was drowning and couldn’t catch her breath. A large fishing boat came into view, it was driven by Colin Doyle, he stopped the boat, dropped the rope ladder and a cork life preserver into the water. Colin helped pull Charlotte out of the water and brought her down into the cabin of the boat.
After Colin dropped Charlotte back at the dock, she was brought back to the inn, where she took a hot shower and ate a bowl of soup. Audrey, who was a registered nurse, came by to check on Charlotte. After Audrey left the room, Charlotte decided to lie down and take a nap. She was exhausted from falling into the ocean and being rescued by Colin was a blessing.
Later that evening, Colin stopped by with a bouquet of flowers and to see how Charlotte was feeling. Liza couldn’t help but notice that Colin had some crush on Charlotte.
Charlotte wanted to go on a bike ride to explore the island, since she wasn’t needed to film anything for the day. She wanted to try to find out where Colin lived, she knew he lived along a little peninsula called Thompson Bend. As she was riding, a big red pickup truck came up behind her causing her to fall off her bike. It turned out to be Colin behind the wheel; he put her bike in the back of his truck and helped her get in the passenger’s seat. He drove her back to his house to help bandage her knee. After staying at his house for a while it was time to head back to the inn. Colin dropped her off a little ways down from the inn. She didn’t want Colin to get caught up in Hollywood rumors. She felt herself falling for Colin but knew it wouldn’t work out.
Colin and Charlotte went out on the boat to a private island to enjoy a picnic lunch. Charlotte and Colin went fishing and they talked about their lives growing up. Charlotte ended up catching more fish then Colin did. After fishing, they ate lunch which consisted of fruit, cheese, crackers, and a bottle of white wine. When it started to get dark they headed back to the dock. After Colin helped Charlotte off the boat, he leaned in to kiss her.
Nick Dempsey stopped at the Gilroy Farm to take a look around. He was interested in seeing how Audrey made goat cheese. Audrey fixed a gift basket for Nick to take back to his wife in California. Audrey asked Nick if she could take pictures of him with the goats in the background. Millie (the dog that Audrey rescued) wanted her picture taken with Nick and Audrey. Nick wanted to open a restaurant in California when he was done filming movies.
Lily, Charlotte’s sister called saying some reporters found her and their mother to ask them questions. Charlotte was scared because she didn’t want anybody to find out about her stepfather’s abuse. When she noticed a reporter in the doorway of the inn she decided to sneak out the back way. She walked down to the dock, where she saw Colin’s boat; she climbed on board and went down into the cabin. Colin found her in his boat, decided to take her back to his house to hide out.
Charlotte left the island after the film was done. Liza found a package Charlotte had left for Colin. She had knitted Colin a hat and scarf, in dark khaki-colored wool with thin yellow and navy blue bands of color. He told Liza and Claire he was leaving on Friday for a fishing trip. Mr. Broussard called Audrey about Sunny his dog that ran away while he was in rehab. Audrey was sad about losing Mille but Mr. Broussard told her she could come visit them anytime.
Charlotte returned to the Angel Inn after spending a few weeks with her family in Ohio. She had come back to see Colin not realizing he had gone on a fishing trip. Liza, Claire, and Charlotte drove to the General Store to see if Marion and Walter Doyle could get in touch with Colin on his boat. When Walter tried to get in touch with Colin’s boat, he got a Mayday signal, meaning Colin’s boat was in trouble. The weather channel was reporting the storms that hit Maine, Colin’s boat was found but he wasn’t inside. The Coast Guard was searching in the water for Colin. Daniel arrived back at the inn when he found out about Colin. Daniel drove Liza and Charlotte to Portland where Colin would be brought once the Coast Guard locates him in the water. Charlotte was the first person to see Colin when the boat brought him to the dock. The EMT’s brought Colin to the hospital and allowed Charlotte to ride with them.
Once at the hospital, Colin was taken back to be examined. Charlotte was allowed to see Colin once he was in a room. In the room Colin told Charlotte he loves her and she loves him too. She finally told Colin about her past, what her stepfather had done to her family.
Audrey found out she was pregnant. Liza decided to have a clambake, to celebrate a wonderful end to an eventful summer. Mille was able to return to live with Audrey and Rob because Mr. Broussard was moving into an assisted living community. The summer was certainly challenging with Audrey and Rob, in such despair and now happily expecting. Charlotte and Colin – how this special place brought them together, and their impossible, against-all-odds romance finally worked out, and were planning a beautiful future together. The season had come to give thanks and allowed them to count their blessings.

A Hollywood movie crew is filming in the beautiful area surrounding Angel Island. They ask Liza Martin if she is able to feed and house a number of them. She and Charlotte North are happy to have the business because it's been a very rainy summer with fewer tourists than normal. Upon her arrival, famous actress Charlotte Miller immediately feels the sense of tranquility the island has to offer. But she almost dies when a rogue wave sweeps her into the ocean. Colin Doyle, a local fisherman, sees her struggling in the water. He is able to pull her into his boat just in time. They feel an immediate connection. But how could they spend time together when Charlotte travels constantly to whereever her next movie is going to be filmed?
Audrey and Rob own the goat and lavender farm next door to the inn. They have been trying to have a child. Their next step will be going through infertility treatments with doctors and hospitals in Boston. But they will have to sell their dream home and business in order to afford the medical expenses and avoid the three hour trips to get to Boston for appointments.
Will God answer the prayers of these people going through life changing situations?

I enjoyed this book although it was a bit too holy-woly for me overall. Nonetheless, the plot was fine if simplistic. I predicted every move of every character so that’s why I only gave it 3 stars. Even if you know, as a reader, that it’s all going to work out in the end, it would have been nice just to have a little uncertainty. You know Charlotte won’t drown because that event is too early in the book; you know Audrey will get the dog, and you know they’ll stay on the Island. Sorry for the spoilers.

If you ever wonder what it might be like to be a movie star, be mobbed and have stories made up about you, this novel gives us a good peek. Charlotte is the star of a movie that is set on the beach across from Liza Martin's Inn. Charlotte stays in the Inn and finds love with a local fisherman. It's not easy. A very entertaining story. You'll like it.

From the other reviews I'm guessing Thomas Kinkade developed quite a following. This is the first of his books I have read. I probably would not have chosen this book on my own but found myself reading it along with my book group.

I didn't think I was going to like this book as much as I did. A big part of the plot was about celebrities, and I generally don't like reading about privileged rich people. The main celebrity in the story, though, was a truly nice person. This was an all-around feel good story.

A Wandering Heart is such a tender, compassionate story. Full of love, romance, heart ache and hope that it is one of my favorite books. Writing this review is sweet and hard for me at the same time. I just love this style of writing, but am saddened that Thomas Kinkade won’t be writing anymore since he is now gone from us, but I’m hoping Katherine Spencer will continue to write more in this series, because I’ve come to love the characters and places so much.
When I read a book and wish I could live in that place it is hard when the book ends.
Charlotte is a famous movie star and her and her cast come to Angel Island to film some of her newest movie. She falls into the sea and fisherman Colin rescues her. Their love story is so tender, but will it last, because their lives are so different. Will love reign in the end or is this just a summer romance?
We hear about the wonderful Inn on Angel Island with Liza, Claire and Daniel and the neighbors that run the goat farm. How the neighbors - Audrey and Rob want to start a family so badly, but are having all kinds of trouble.
This book A Wandering Heart turned out great and I will be satisfied if Katherine Spencer doesn’t write anymore to the series, but would love if she did.
A Wandering Heart is such a fantastic book and one I highly recommend. You will love it as I did.

This is a wonderful story about a town which is off the beaten path but one that is what the director of a movie came to film their current picture. Cape Light is a paradise. Charlotte is the star and has given up the larger city to stay where the movie will be filmed. One day she went for a walk and to think of her past near the water edge she was swiped into the raging water she was found by Colin Doyle, a local fisherman who was out in his boat. As the two of them got to know each other Charlotte knew she would give up fame to be with him which he didn’t grasped. She left to go back to finish the rest of the film and then to set things right with her family who had suffered at the hands of her Mom’s second husband and to make sure her family was alright. Returning to Cape Light to seek Colin Doyle only to find out that he was out on his boat was in danger and he had been sent to a local hospital. I couldn’t put this book down and was overjoyed when the odds became a reality.

Book 3 in the series, An Angel Island Novel, is another sweet read by the team of Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer, where island folklore told of angels that helped a community of residents near death. Actress Charlotte Miller, who covers a world of past hurts with a beautiful smile, has come to the island to stay at the inn with a movie crew, all set to film her new and upcoming with co-star Nick Dempsey. When a rogue wave tumbles the troubled Charlotte into the ocean, it is fisherman Colin Doyle who jumps in and rescues her. As the two form a quick attachment, Charlotte knows that the attraction can not last and sadly breaks it off. Meanwhile, goat farmer and cheesemakers Audrey and Rob are having heartaches of their own - will they have to give up their beloved Gilroy Farm in order to move to Boston for fertility treatments....

The world lost a beloved artist on April 6 - the Painter of Light and author Kinkade passed away at his home.

The third installment in the Angel Island series finds Liza and Claire dealing with a movie cast and crew staying at the inn while filming nearby. They quickly become close to famous actress Charlotte who is dealing with secrets in her past and a desire for a more normal life. Charlotte meets and falls for local writer/fisherman Colin but feels there is no future for their love. The inn's neighbors Audrey and her husband are dealing with their own set of problems infertility and the possibility of giving up their dream farm and business in order to pay for fertility treatments. Audrey finds a stray dog who wiggles into her heart despite all her attempts to resist. The two stories are interrelated through the inn at Angel Island.

Nice continuation of the Angel Island Series that is also connected to the Cape Light Series.
The inn is front and center as a movie crew comes to town to film a movie on the beach below the inn.
Liza and Claire make everyone feel welcome and the stars, Charlotte and Nick, are down to earth.
The peacefulness of the island and the role of angels make believers out of many. Charlotte has many secrets and is hounded by the press. Her new friends pull through for her though. There's several happily ever afters in the offing after some sadness, fear and tears.
Nice closure with a few loose ends after many twists and turns. I can't wait to return to Angel Island. Next up for me is book four, The Way Home.

This was a traditional "beach read". However, since I have read all of the books in the Angel Island series and in the companion "Cape Light" series, I enjoyed this book because the characters seemed like "old friends."

Sadly, Thomas Kinkade died a few months ago. I hope that co-author Katherine Spencer will continue to write these books for all of the readers who have followed both series. To do so, would be a fitting memorial to Thomas Kinkade.

(OOOPS, I just realized that I selected the Large Print version of this title. Oddly, no readers have made comments. I read the "regular Print" title, but my comments will, of course, remain the same.)

In A Wandering Heart, a whole new cast of characters come in to play, literally. Liza hosts a film crew complete with a famous actor and actress at her B&B while they shoot scenes on the beach below the inn. A side story between Charlotte, the actress, and Colin, the fisherman, blossom when they least expect it.

The book seems to wrap up to quickly though. All the pieces fell into place just so, which didn’t give the story much believability. But it’s not enough of a problem to give the whole series a bad review.
